Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - Saved My Life

All of these  stars

Charlie is was going on with his life without limits and it started to worry Julie. She was having breakfast in the kitchen when he came down, shirtless whit a new girl, leading her to the door and saying goodbye to her with a very exciting kiss.

Julie was sitting in the kitchen drinking tea. She rolled her eyes at that. Charlie went through the door and she got up to go after her brother.

- Charlie! I need to talk to you. She stopped at the foot of the narrow staircase. He was at the top. He turned to hear his sister.

- I'm worried about you - She said - After Grandma's death you are ...

- I'm alive Julie! - He surprised his sister with the answer - I'm alive and I'm going forward with life. You should do the same.

- Charlie, this is not living! - Julie said worried about him - I am worried about this, with your actions ...

- I'm going to interrupt you right there: I'm an adult and I know how to live my life! You should do the same! - He said that and disappeared upstairs.

It was Christmas week and the whole bar was decorated, the bartenders were wearing Santa hats. Charlie cleaned the counter and took orders with another colleague: Joshua.

- Hey Charlie, where are you spending Christmas next week?

- Probably here at the bar - he replied, passing two beers over the counter.

- Seriously? The city is boring at Christmas!

- I'm already bored, so it won't make any difference.

Two girls approached the counter and Charlie soon tried to offer them some seasonal fruits used to prepare drinks.

- What is your name? - One of them asked, biting the fruit and looking with interest at him.

- Who wants to know? He asked, raising his expressive eyebrow. His hair was loose under the cap, falling over her shoulders. He looked at them, leaning on the arm on the counter. He was with a toothpick in his mouth.

- My name is Ana and this is Vanessa. Now it's your turn - She smiled.

- I'm Charlie, nice to meet you girls - He smiled, and looked triumphantly at his friend - Merry Christmas man! he said, laughing.

Charlie took a sip of his beer and put it in the car's cup holder. He was distracted by looking at some messages and driving at the same time when he dodged a car and hit the railing on the road, which was empty. Across the road, someone parked the car when the accident happened and immediately ran over to it.

Charlie had hit his forehead hard on the steering wheel, even wearing the security belt, and his head was resting on it.

- My goodness! Are you okay? - He heard a worried female voice. He then felt icy fingers touch the side of his throat, checking to see if he had a pulse.

- Hello? I'm here on the road, close to the New Jersey exit and an accident just happened. I am a nurse, I will provide first aid. A man, apparently in his twenties! I will try to stabilize it!

She then passed her body through the window, loosened Charlie's security belt, and opened the door. Very carefully, she pulled his head off the steering wheel. He had cut his forehead, his lip, and his mouth was bleeding. The cut of the mouth was very ugly. She leaned him on the bench.

- Hi, hey handsome ... can you hear me? - She called him. Gradually Charlie opened his eyes. Everything was blurry and he couldn't see it well.

- I can - He replied in a sigh, eyes closed, expression of pain.

- Great! My name is Deanna! What's your name? - She asked him, still holding his face in her hands, looking at him. He had his eyes closed, his lashes almost covered his iris.

- Charlie. Nice to meet you, Deanna. - He said almost without strength.

- Come on, you just met me and are already thinking about sleeping? - She spoke to distract him. She had to keep him awake at least until the rescue came - So we won't be good friends, Charlie! - She took off her jacket, throwing it over him. She then took his hand - Talk to me, comes on. A handsome guy like you has no way of not knowing a conversation! - She looked at him worriedly and looked at the road to see if there was any help coming. Charlie opened his eyes.

- I like your tattoo, Charlie - she said, smiling. He could see that she had dark hair and looked short. He didn't know many short-haired girls, beautiful like that.

- I liked you ... - He laughed, but then groaned in pain, making a face.

- - It's because I'm not in the premenstrual period today ... and you made me miss the movies, you know? - she teased him - But that's okay! The guy was very annoying ... Hey open your eyes you have to survive, I don't deal with the dead, don't get me wrong! - Despite the friendly tone of the conversation, she was concerned - and you must reimburse me for making me miss my session by going to the movies with me.

- Are you inviting me to go to the movies? - He laughed at her and his eyes were almost closing - You are so cute - He raised his eyebrows, taking a deep breath. He noticed that she put the jacket on top of him, and a sweet smell entered Charlie's nostrils.

- Of course not! I meant that you can refund me later! 12 dollars! I'll pass you my bank account! - She looked at the clock and also kept his head steady with her hands - But you can invite me too or I invite you, the important thing is to have fun ... Open your eyes Charlie, stay with me. Stay with me!

Charlie opened his eyes and could see he was in the ambulance and he saw from the corner of his eye that Deanna was in the ambulance too.

They arrived at the hospital. Charlie was met by the medical staff on standby and led down a long lighted corridor.

- Charles Hawkins? - The doctor called him - Your exams are ok, now let's go to the infirmary, you'll need some good stitches here - Two nurses helped him to sit in the wheelchair. He also wore a cervical collar.

The infirmary had some beds separated by screens of blue hospital tissue, practically curtains. He was waiting when the curtain opened.

- Hi again - Deanna said, turning around with a small stainless steel tray in her hands, with a syringe, thread, tweezers, scissors, and alcohol.

- Hi! Are you a nurse? - He asked surprised.

She put on the blue rubber gloves.

- Yes, no worries, I know how to use everything on the tray! Your stitches will be perfect! - She reassured him, taking the syringe with the anesthetic.

- Stitches? really? - Charlie seemed a little scared by all that. Deanna applied the anesthetic to his lower lip, where it would be sutured - Ouch! - He said closing his eyes with the sting.

- I bet this tattoo hurt a lot more! - She smiled, now starting the suture - Did it hurt a lot? - She quickly ran her eyes over the tattoo.

- A "like" - He tried to answer with his mouth open.

- There you go, stitches ready, in seven days you can take them off. Did it hurt that much? She asked, turning and taking off her gloves, discarding them.

- No, I thought it would be worse - He admitted - Thanks for what you did for me.

- No problem. Glad you are well! - She filled out his medical record.

- You can get my phone right there if the movies are up Deanna.

- You owe me 12 bucks - She replied - I'll charge huh? - She then took the phone out of her pocket, and texted his number - See you Charlie Hawkins - She closed the curtain and left. Charlie's phone vibrated. He looked at Deanna's message:

🙂

He looked at the emoji and smiled.
