"What are you trying to say?" Helt questioned as he raised his eyebrows.
"What I want to say is that we should just run away. We can't fight that thing ourselves, it is too strong for us to handle"
"Oh? Then what about the common people? Do you think they can stop that thing themselves? They will all die if we don't stop this thing now! Who will protect them if we don't!?" Helt snapped and questioned in fury.
"We are not some sort of heroes Helt!
We don't have any responsibility to protect them! Return to reality! We can't fight that thing no matter how hard we try! It doesn't matter who will protect them or if they will die! What's matters is that we remain alive, and for that, we have to run!" The girl snapped back.
Helt looked like he just received some sort of shock as disbelief was all over his face. He couldn't believe that the person he loves is saying something so selfish.
"W-What are you talking about…? W-We have to protect normal people… if we don't then who will…? We can't just run away…" Helt muttered.
The girl looked like she wanted to say something but she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, she then opened her eyes with a determined gaze and she glanced at Helt.
"Alright, do whatever you want but... but I will take my leave now. I sincerely wish that you make it out alive"
Helt and the other girl opened their eyes wide, not able to believe what the girl in front of them just said. They were husband and wives and truly loved each other. They traveled and had faced many dangers together.
But right now… Helda… she just… she just talked about leaving and running away... alone… both Helt and Cilia couldn't believe it.
As Helda turned around, Helt finally came out of his reverie and called,
"Helda! Are you seriously going to leave me alone!?"
Helda's movements stopped and if one looks closely, he could notice her fist which was trembling nonstop, but in the end, Helda took a deep breath and continued walking without answering or turning back.
"Helda! HELDA!" Helt screamed but Helda didn't stop, a warm drop of tear rolled down on Helda's cheeks, but she still didn't stop and left.
"S-She… she left…?" Helt questioned in disbelief.
"Helt… calm down…" Cilia spoke in a worried tone. Helt grabbed her shoulders as he looked into her eyes.
"You won't leave me? Would you…?
Please don't leave me… I won't be able to take that… Please…" Helt sobbed. Cilia hugged him gently as she replied, "Don't worry… I won't leave… I won't…"
The moment could have gone for longer if, "Grrr" the thing, who just devoured a man wouldn't have stood up.
Helt finally regained his composure. He looked around and a depressing smile appeared on his face as he muttered, "We are the only ones left… the rest either died or ran away…"
Cilia smiled wryly before she nodded weakly. Though she won't run away… she pretty much knew what will be the result of this fight.
But, she won't run away.
She glanced at Helt again as a beautiful smiled appeared on her face.
'At least I'll die with you… Helda just missed that chance…"
With that, she dashed towards the thing as she started her spell chant.
…
A while later, an incredibly handsome man with silky white hair was dashing towards the place where that weird beast attacked. He wore a button-less white shirt along with blue-colored shorts.
Obviously, that man was Ace, who just sensed that the beast was trying to come towards them and since all the screams dimmed down and the beast's presence still wasn't gone, he figured that it dealt with everyone there.
And since Ace didn't want the beast to ruin his Nightingale's castle building session, he decided to come here and deal with that beast himself, and…
He was pissed.
The beast just had to have attacked today of all days!
Ace decided to end that beast as painfully as possible.
As Ace was running, he noticed a beautiful woman, whose cheeks were soiled with all her tears while her eyes were red due to crying, was running in his direction.
Ace stopped his steps and questioned.
"Is this the place where the beast attacked?"
The woman initially had ignored Ace,( which was a rare sight for him) but when he questioned, she stopped her tracks and looked at him with hope-filled eyes.
"Are you from the Enactment Union!?"
"Huh? Why would I join that stupid place?" Ace questioned back in confusion, crushing all her hopes.
"No, screw that, just tell me, is this the place where the beast attacked?"
"A-Are you planning to fight that beast?" the girl questioned, a glimpse of hope returning in her eyes.
"Yeah, I am. Just answer my question"
The woman then pointed towards the direction where she came from and answered, "It is… just go forward, it is there but… but I will say that if you are alone, you should probably run away…"
"Thank you and don't worry,
I am strong" Ace replied and just as he was about to run, the girl called.
"Hey! …umm… by any chance, could I follow you…?" She questioned.
Ace raised his eyebrows but looking at the determined expression in the woman's eyes, he nodded.
"If you can keep up"
Saying that, Ace started running.
Obviously, he wasn't running at his full speed. Now that he had decided to end that beast while taking his sweet time, he will take his sweet time.
Also, he actually had a good impression of the girl in front of her. Of course, she was beautiful but that wasn't the reason, in reality, it has been a while since he talked with a girl who didn't just keep staring at him. Also, even though the girl was afraid, she still advised him not to attack the beast if he was alone.
But, all of that doesn't matter; the main reason was that he will get a guide who can bring him to that place.
...
Soon, Ace and the woman appeared where the beast was rampaging around, and as soon as they arrived, the woman opened her eyes wide before she fell on her knees powerlessly.
She then picked up the body-less head that was lying below her with trembling hands as even more tears rolled down her cheeks.
"He is my husband…" She said more to herself than to Ace.
Ace looked at the head she was holding and the body that the beast was devouring and then the other body-less heads and skeletons lying on the ground which was painted red with blood. Of course, he wasn't bothered by the scene since he had seen worse, but the beast's stench was irritating him even more.
"He is my husband… the bravest and the kindest man I had ever known in my whole life. He only wanted one thing in his life, and that was to save others and for that, he trained hard every single day.
We were here with our party when this beast attacked a person, we weren't able to react quickly and it devoured the first man but when he was about to jump at the other, Helt and our party attacked it.
Then… our nightmare started.
It is too strong… either it has high Magic resistance… or, the magic doesn't work on it at all. All our attacks didn't do any damage at all. Seeing that, all of our party members and the others who were fighting him ran away. But… as brave as he was, Helt decided to fight till the end.
In the end, only me and Helt were left, but as we fought, Helt finally decided to end this farce and he clashed with that thing bare hand, trying to buy some time for me to run away…
I don't know what I was thinking when I met you but I somehow requested to come along with you… to the same place, to the same beast that just killed my husband, rendering all my husband's efforts useless" Cilia chuckled bitterly.
"But… I do not regret it. After actually seeing his dead body… I have decided to die alongside my brave husband!" She declared as she stood up. Ready to go all out and help this man in front of her and finally die in peace, Of course, she had no hopes of winning and was sure they would lose.
"That's not brave.
He was simply an Idiot."
