"Should I apologize?" Chaerry asked Eugene with whom she was now walking to the canteen.
"He expects you to do so. It's up to you though. " she suggests.
Since they were going to spend a whole year in the same class, Chaerry decides that apologizing was the better option.
"Should I say I am sorry or just a sorry will do? "
"you look like you have never apologized" Eugene laughed at her friend's misery.
Right at the corner, far from the chaotic center sat a hanji whose eyes wandered across the hall - scanning every nook and cranny before proceeding to read his manga.
It wasn't long after that when he felt footsteps approaching.
"Here! You can have this." said the person. " I am sorry about earlier. Also not to pity you or anything but it seems like you didn't bring your lunch. Actually the canteen lady took a leave and all students were notified to bring their lunchboxes beforehand."
He stared at her dubiously before responding "And you think I will accept this? Huh"
The girl was rescinding back her lavender, oval shaped lunchbox timidly until she felt a hand atop hers.
"Ah! Cold " she thought.
" Well if that's the case then you are absolutely correct." he smirked.
In no time, he was digging into the dish presented in front him. He ate hungrily not even taking a notice of the fact that the girl had taken a seat and was gazing at him in astonishment.
"Oh... Ah.. Yeah. So I accept your apology. You can leave." he stuttered when he came to realization. His eyes searched for any disdain and disgust in her eyes but she seemed amused instead.
"Uhmmm.... What?" he murmured.
" What a plot twist!" she exclaimed.
Chaerry was taken aback by his unexpected behavior.
" listen! I am not usually like this. I mean imagine not having breakfast in the morning because you argued with your parents and then not finding any food at the canteen. What else was I supposed to do? Hunger took the better part of me. " He whined.
That was not what she meant. But she was nevertheless enjoying the sight of
him being flustered.
She let him continue eating as her thoughts wandered back to the Hanji earlier. The aloof, tall lad who chose the back seat near the window despite the availability of one right in front of the teacher.
"Well then "animeboy" I am joining back my friends. See you around. "
She said before walking away.
"what!" he exclaimed when realization hit him. "Did she just call me animeboy??... Must be because of this." his fingers pointed at the guiltless manga that laid on the table.
Having filled his tummy, Hanji walked to his class just to collide with a girl who seemingly had the screws in her head loose. She neither apologized nor spared him a look and dashed her way to the cafeteria.
"Your third offense of the day!" he howled at the girl standing before him beside the classroom.
"It was a just little bump on your shoulder. Not that big of a deal. Ack!" she retaliated. "And what do you mean by third??"
"Acting all naive suddenly Huh. You called me ANIMEBOY. Your dumb brain can't recall?"
"And is it my fault that you didn't tell me your name. You are clearly Chinese. Also your taciturn, sullen and outcast attitude screams a big animeboy wannabe energy! " she yelled back.
"Animeboy wannabe? Listen first of all I am Japanese. Secondly, you have zero, if possible less than that, right to judge me." he bellowed at her.
Drama is enjoyed by everyone and so did their classmates. They were soon surrounded by others and murmurs from girls had brought their attention upon the fact that they had eyes on them.
The crowd dispersed hastily when one of the students yelled the arrival of the teacher.
"We will carry on after classes! " Chaerry hissed into his ears before rolling her eyes at the death glares he sent at her.
" What a day!" Hanji stretched his arms while yawning. He had spent the whole period sleeping. At least one of his plans worked today. Having a peaceful first week was the first step of his plan to creating a havoc in school in order to get suspended.
"What a girly lunchbox" Hanji scoffed at the lunchbox he was supposed to return to Chaerry.
In front of the school gate stood Chaerry who was explaining to Eugene how she ran to the cafeteria to fetch her lunchbox and chaos happened.
"Did you find it?"
"No" she pouted.
"Of course you wouldn't find it you airhead."
a very familiar voice spoke. He smacked her head lightly with her lunchbox before he handed it to her.
" Can you get out of my sight. Your existence irks me. " Chaerry told him.
"Glad to hear that because the feeling is mutual." he replies sassily.
"I smell the beginning of a new friendship" Eugene jokingly said.
"Ew! NEVER. " their two voices disagreed in unison.
"Woah! Soul mate thingys. " Eugene had disgusted glares thrown at her after her cringe remarks.
"Oh by the way Chae I have to go to the Manga cafe. I will leave first."
Chaerry nods in reply. Then there's Hanji who was apparently intrigued by the mention of manga.
"Can I join you to the cafe?" he asked tentatively. " The thing is I moved to this country a few weeks ago and am not yet familiar with the streets here."
" I could tell from the time I laid my eyes on you that you are Japanese. My years of watching anime and keeping up with Japanese shows is paying off. " Eugene said.
"Appreciated because apparently some people lack the knowledge to differentiate Asians." he mocks Chaerry.
Eugene laughs knowing well who he was referring to. "Let's go!" she tells him.
Chaerry stares as the two walk away, green-eyed. "Now he is trying to steal my best friend with the sharing-interest topic. As if I am gonna stand by and let him do that. " she muttered under her breath.
Is Friendship going to be possible between these two individuals? Or is bickering all they will ever do???
