Chapter 12 - Agonizing Flames

"Pierre, please, we have to stop this fight or Aeron is going to die," begged Alana. "I know we have to but, what can we do? We would all die trying to save him and that's not what he wants. His last wish is to save us" replied Pierre. They all turned to see Sir Baldwin's sword raised about to deliver the final blow to end the duel and kill Aeron. "Aeron keep fighting, you can't die," yelled Alana crying out in despair. "You have to keep…," her voiced began to fade out as a flood of tears began to run down her cheeks. Rose and Pierre Also called out to Aeron with the hope that he would get his will to fight back.

A bright blinding light appeared causing everyone to shield their eyes. After the glowing radiance had subsided, a ring of green fire created a huge flame wall around Aeron. Sir Baldwin was forced to retread because of these intense green flames. What's going on, I was about to finish this once and for all, he thought. This caused many people in the crowd to become confused about the outcome. "The lord one he must have been hiding even more skills than we thought," exclaimed one of the soldiers. "Yeah, the winner of the battle is Sir Baldwin," yelled Damira to give Sir Baldwin praise. "No, I didn't kill him, this isn't finished yet," Sir Baldwin frown and tensed his face as he stepped into a defensive position. As the flames diminished, a silhouette could be roughly seen through the smoke. The soldiers got back into position and readied their weapons. The sound of crushing snow could be heard as the black silhouette stepped to the edge of the smoke. Finally, the smoke vanished revealing Aeron, who had green flames spewing out from his hands, and his eyes glowing green with an awing luminescence.

Sir Baldwin was examining Aeron, trying to gauge his strength in his new form. His face looks different than before, he thought. He looked closer at Aeron facial expression when some soldier rallied behind him. "Don't worry, Sir Baldwin will take care of this traitor," the three soldiers charged towards Aeron with the hopes of killing him one and for all. Aeron stood "Wait don't do it, somethings different about him," the men disregarded Sir Baldwin's warning and continued to charge towards Aeron. The leading man thrusted his spear with all strength at Aeron chest, and the other two ran to the sides trying to prepare for their following attack. Aeron dodged the spear and grabbed it as it passed him. He then grabbed onto the wooden pole, puling the guy holding it closer to him. Aeron fiery grip set fire to the spear that quicky traveled the soldier's hand making him let go of it. He tried to get away, but Aeron thrusted his sword through the soldier's back leading straight to his chest. The other soldiers attacked out of vengeance for their fallen comrade "How dare you traitor," yelled one of the men while swinging his sword, but Aeron dodged and slashed him across the chest with his flaming sword. The other soldier tried to attack Aeron from behind. Aeron blocked the attack with his sword then turned around and burned the man with a fire ball. The two men cried out in agony as their bodies were quickly engulfed with flames.

Aeron expression hadn't changed once since he was attacked by the soldiers, his eye looked like as if he were not himself. "What happened to Aeron," asked Rose who in deep confusion. She looked at Alana who was at a loss for words, her body just trembled as she watched her brother kill the three men. Something is wrong, he's acting different than before. Maybe that's not him, she thought trying to figure everything out. Pierre stood there with his eyes fixed on the battle. This is like before, when we got captured by those bandits, he though. He didn't know if he should tell the other yet, so he kept quiet. "I if we get an opportunity, we can free Elise and get to safety" said Pierre. "What about Aeron we can't leave him to fight alone," worriedly asked Rose. "He'll be alright. when it's safe for us to get him, then we will and leave," responded Pierre reassuring her.

Sir Baldwin looked at the corpses of the three soldier that were laid out in front of him and prayed "Let these poor fools rest in peace, the have suffered enough." He then moved his gaze towards Aeron "You will die for what you've done traitor!" Aeron just stood there in silence staring back at Sir Baldwin, his face had a cold stare showing murderous intent. Sir Baldwin started throwing wind blades at Aeron as he slowly started walking forward. Every time one came close to Aeron, fire would appear and protect him. Sir Baldwins began to worry as his favorite attack had no effect. No one has been able to dodge these, except for the other royal knights, he thought. His body started to weaken due to his overuse of his magic. Then suddenly Aeron burst forward fast than before almost catching Sir Baldwin off guard. Aeron swung his sword at Sir Baldwins head, but he just narrowly blocked it and backed away. "I have to stay away on the defensive," Sir Baldwin barely had any time to catch his breath while Aeron was already charging at him again. Aeron gave a barrage of heavy strike to Sir Baldwin, making the skillful knight like a novice swordsman who was just barely escaping death.

The soldier's holding Elise still standing watching the duel. Elise thought she could convince the soldiers to release due to this new threat "Hey you guys should get out of here; it is getting dangerous." "She may be right, this doesn't look too good, the prince has the lord on the defensive," said one of the soldiers. The other replied "If he's giving him a hard time, think about what he'll do to us. We may have to fall back if we want to stick to our orders." Damira became frustrated "Shut you two! The only orders you follow are the ones from Sir Baldwin. If you try to retreat before that and I'll execute you for desertion." The soldiers immediately went back to being alert after receiving Damira's threat. He should've won by now, my plan isn't working, she thought. She began to look at Sir Baldwin who was now using all of his strength to block and dodge Aeron's attack. "I'll give him a boost this should be enough to end this," said Damira as she went walked toward Sir Baldwin. She placed her hands out and chanted, "hasten movement, Body enhancement lighten."

My body feels lighter, thought Sir Baldwin as the magic started to take effect. "With this boost in power I will end you, Aeron" shouted Sir Baldwin. Sir Baldwin movements quickened, and he was once again able to go on the offensive. Aeron and Sir Baldwin were trading blows attacking and blocking over and over again. Although Sir Baldwin was using all of his power to attack, it wasn't enough to stop him. Sir Baldwin stepped back. I only have one more thing I can try, he thought whilst looking at Aeron who was unfazed by any of the attacks. Sir Baldwin yelled at the top of his lungs, "Everyone get back! I'm going to use my most powerful attack!"

Sir Baldwin stuck his swords blade into the ground and raised his hands up into the air. He then chanted, "Divine spirt of the wind, grant me the power to smite my enemies, with an overwhelming current of air." The sky became covered in dark grey clouds blocking the sunlight, and the wind began to howl like a savage beast. All of the soldiers ran back into the village seeking shelter from the incoming attack. Damira and the two soldiers holding Elise stayed to watch. "Miss, I think we should head back he gave us a warning," worryingly said one of the soldiers. Damira gave the man an Irritated look, "My orders are to see this through to the end, and because you're following my orders too, you will have to stay and watch, even if it kills you." Pierre and the other's watched as Sir Baldwin readied his magic. "We have to move further away; we don't know how powerful his magic is" said Pierre. "But what about my brother? he could be killed." Rose grabbed Alana's hand, "I know this is hard but will get him as soon as things calmed its over okay." She then pulled her along, and they all went further away from the area to safety.

The wind's howl turned into a violent unsettling roar, that was tearing through the skies above. "Aeron, I have let you live long enough and now it's about time that I end this," exclaimed Sir Baldwin. There's no way he can survive this, he thought. "Strike down my opponent, Tempest Spear," yelled Sir Baldwin. Thunder echoed through the sky as if it were answering his call. As he moved his hands down toward Aeron, the rushing winds started to flow in circles, which forming a cyclone of wind that came from the clouds. The large cyclone shot down like an arrow from the heavens and slammed into Aeron, the color of the cyclone changed as it picked up dirt and other things from the ground. Sir Baldwin felt to one knee after exhausting all of his magic power and strength. He gazed at the cyclone spinning at incredible speeds, I have done my duty to this country and killed the traitor, he thought. Damira and the soldiers started to celebrate off to the side. Elise thought that the worst happened to Aeron and her eyes filled up with tears.

"You guys look, what is that?" asked Rose looking back toward the dueling Area. They looked back to city the giant cyclone enveloping the area where Aeron was standing. Pierre started shaking as the sight of enormous spinning wind cyclone, "I've heard rumors about this back in the knight academy. This is the move that gave Sir Baldwin his nickname, Tempest Spear. No one has every survived a head on attack from it." Alana tried to fight back the flood of tears that came rushing out of her eyes. Rose had been trying to hold herself together for Alana's sake, but she had finally cracked, and tears slowly began to roll down her face. "I failed him. I promised him that I'd protect him from danger, but all I did was run away when he needed me the most," muttered Pierre whilst wiping his tears away. He grabbed his sword looked at the emblem of the Empire on it. He then squeezed Its handle "I'm unfit to be your knight… and your friend."

When the winds dispersed, a lot of dirt, rocks, and other materials were thrown all around the surrounding areas by the destructive force of the cyclone. There was a large crater where the cyclone had touched down around Aeron. Damira walked over to Sir Baldwin, "It took you long enough, but you did it. Looks like I will have something good to report to general Don." Sir Baldwin laughed, "I didn't think I would have to use up all of my strength. I'm glad that stopped him because if it was for that I probably wouldn't have been able to kill him." Elise started hysterically calling out to Aeron, "Get up Aeron, you can't die. Your friends and you sister need you." Sir Baldwin looked over at her, "You're wasting your breath. I've purged that traitor, so he's no longer of this world anymore." Even after hearing Sir Baldwin, she continued. "Children so young and naïve that they can't even listen to reason," said Damira laughing at Elise. The soft sound of steps could be heard coming from the crater.

Each footstep grew louder and louder as it got closer to the side of the hole. Slowly revealing Aeron emerging out from the crater. Aeron's clothes were all cut up and ragged from the cyclones raging winds and his body also had cuts all over it. Small green flames came out from his wounds stopping them from bleeding and his green eyes were glowing brightly again. "How are you still alive, no one has ever survived that attack and lived to tell the tale about it," shockingly stated Sir Baldwin. He tried to stand up to face Aeron on last time, but he fell back down on one knee. "Damn it, I have no more energy left," he muttered while staring Aeron down who was getting closer to him. Aeron charged towards Sir Baldwin with great speed and his flame covered sword. Damira jump in front, "Don't worry he has to be low on energy now, I'll kill him." She casted Ice magic hoping that it would hit him before he got close enough to attack them. Aeron dodge each attack and grabbed her wrist before she could swing her dagger. The flames attacked as if they were alive and jumped of Aeron and crawled up her arm. She cried out in agony as the flames maneuvered up her arm and burned her skin. Sir Baldwin swung his sword at Aeron's arm making him release Damira and stopping anymore damage. Aeron grabbed Sir Baldwin by his neck and placed his hand on his face. The fire crept from Aeron's hand to Sir Baldwins cheek and scorched the entire right side of his face. Sir Baldwin screamed out in pain and Aeron facial expression remained unfazed. Suddenly Aeron let go of Sir Baldwin and they both collapsed on the ground.
