It was to the sound of running water that Rachel woke up too and the first thing she saw, to her fright, were two purple, almost dark blue eyes.
'What's that? Where am I? What's going on?!' Were the questions that she asked herself in her head as she examined the owner of those frightening eyes. It was a big baby who was examining her just like how she was examining it.
'Is this baby big or is it just me?' She thought as she took a look at herself which, to her, was surprisingly difficult.
"Ahhh," she exclaimed. To her surprise, and horror, her hand was chubby and her body was wrapped in a blanket like a baby.
'My voice! What's going on and why does it sound like a baby?!' She screamed in her head but then quickly masked her facial expressions as she felt the baby next to her shift. Now the purple-eyed baby was intensely staring at her and its eyes flashed with joy, relief, and pity.
'Pity?' Rachel exclaimed, bewildered by the emotions that had flashed in the baby's eyes, 'why is a baby looking at me with pity?'
"Awuh," the baby said with tears filling its eyes and, to Rachel's surprise, clung to Rachel's arm with deadly grip, as if she was afraid that Rachel would disappear if it let go of her, even for a second. Looking at it Rachel's heart, for some unexplainable reason, warmed. She felt as if they were soul mates, destined to meet.
'Gosh, she's so cute!'
After examining the baby for a while Rachel concluded two things: the baby is a girl and that the baby would be a beauty when she grew up, those big peach blossom eyes and beautiful jade-like skin were obvious hints.
'Ok now let's acquire information about our situation…' Rachel moved her head upward as she attempted to survey her surroundings. They were in a basket that had been weaved out of a light beige material, just by taking a glance at the material you could tell that it of the best quality and hard to come by. The sound of running water came from outside and when she looked up and out of the basket Rachel could see the stunning night sky, but there was no time to admire or appreciate the scenery as she was now panicking, she found her current situation very, very familiar.
'So we're in a basket floating down a river. In a basket floating down a river…' Rachel repeated to herself trying to remember where she remembered this situation from.
'Oh. My. God.' She felt her hairs start to rise, that is, if she even had hairs on her infant body.
'This is exactly like those super cliché movies! Where the someone pushes a baby downstream because they're either in danger or they're hoping that someone else will pick up their child and be able to provide it a better life than they can give!'
On the verge of panicking, she began to wiggle around in an attempt to loosen the binds, also known as a baby blanket, that was holding her hostage.
That did not end well—
Rachel had then gone from a baby swaddled in a baby blanket to a baby tangled in a baby blanket.
While Rachel was occupied by tangling herself, the baby with purple eyes, that Rachel supposes is her sister, stares at her dumbfounded.
Coming out of her shock, the purple-eyed baby moved her hand to Rachel and untangled her with one pull. Yes, one pull, she had grabbed a part of the blanket while Rachel was wiggling like a worm and pulled, somehow untangled Rachel.
The baby's eyes shown with achievement as it stared at Rachel who was now still.
While the purple-eyed baby felt achieved, Rachel felt embarrassed and thankful. She had never thought that one day, she would need a baby to help her get untangled. She then shot a grateful look to her neighbor that was still staring at her and sat up.
As soon as Rachel sat up, her eyes were met with beautiful scenery.
The scenery beautiful, it was of a large river that led to a tall waterfall. On the sides of the river, there were tall trees that were the homes of many large and majestic white birds. In the background were many snowy mountain peaks.
But it was a shame, Rachel did not have the time or mood to admire the scenery, as she was now in full survival -and panic- mode.
The basket that Rachel and the purple-eyed baby had called home for the past 2 hours was traveling on that river; bound to fall off of that tall waterfall, to their deaths.
Right as Rachel was entering her survival/panic mode she saw a figure in white from the corner of her eye. As her eyes began to focus on the figure, the hope the had momentarily filled her heart vanished.
There was a man in white nearby and watching them from the edge of the shoreline, which was good. But that man was only watching them with amused eyes, he not about the rescue them or anything! Rachel slowly processed the situation that she and her new companion/sister were in.
'A man. Just standing there. Watching two babies float to their deaths. WOW.'
"Awah."
It was then that she noticed that her newfound sister, who was previously laying next to her, was now sitting up. The small baby was surprisingly not afraid of the upcoming fall, and was instead, looking up at the figure in white with expectation and excitement.
'What the heck is going on here-'
