Chereads / Fallen Hero: Narcos / Chapter 87 - Jealousy Monger

Chapter 87 - Jealousy Monger

Something has got me worried right now. I'm not usually worried unless I need to rely on someone else for a plan, and here I am, relying on someone else for a plan.

I've never been in this position before since I've made preventative measures to stop this from happening. Unfortunately, this much is out of my control.

I don't have direct influence on the politics of business and the government back home, especially when I'm a lowly hero out in the battlefield.

The only people who know of my previous relationship with Aria are probably countable on two hands. After all, if someone told you that a hero was banging the queen, you'd call them a liar and return to work.

Who the hell would believe that a hero who was recently found alive was banging the queen? Well, sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. It's especially true for this world.

In this world, genocide of an innocent species for profit is seen as a normal, everyday occurrence for humans and its even seen as a ritual.

Like the demons would attack us if we didn't kill off 95% of their population. I don't get how these humans can do it with a clear conscience.

Even for me, someone who has been called a monster and a menace back on earth, I do feel somethings when I kill innocents. It is an unpleasant feeling that you can't shake off.

Your hands feel foreign, as if you don't even own them. You don't want to talk to people fear that you might kill them too.

I'm not an idiot nor a psycho who gets off on blood and such, so I can control this urge to just kill all who stand in my way. Believe me, if you are someone of my power, it's very very very tempting.

I feel like just revealing my Phoenix powers to the humans of this continent and killing my enemenies and eventually establishing myself as some sort of deity or messenger sent by God, but there are problems with that.

I don't know about these countries at all. They summon heroes and they most likely kill them after the heroes have served their purpose.

This is implying that the humans here have a way of killing us, heroes. The same heroes who are insanely strong and can take down cities en mass.

That hero.

It seems impossible, like a pipe dream. It may very well be, but I can't rule out that possibility. What if there was a magical item in the royal palace that nullified any powers used against the user?

What if there was a tamed hero from millenniums back who would be let loose to kill us all?

There are too many variables that could exist. Yes I'm being paranoid to an extreme extent, but could you blame me?

I cannot trust anyone here who wasn't from earth. I have no idea about the secret dealings of the castle, I have no idea about the factions and most importantly, I don't know the arsenal of the countries.

Darcy is the scariest country in my opinion, just because their entire population is a walking group of kamikaze men and women. From childhood, they are brainwashed and taught that Bumi is to die for.

But now, I have to believe in my only true ally, Danlias.

And yet, the Danlias haven't contacted me in a while. They told me to wait and nothing has happened yet. Even during the week long journey back to the army camp, nothing.

The soldiers were all haggard and tired of searching. Hana and Anna were the only heroes who weren't panicking since they didn't need to find the horns.

They already had me. What else could they want?

The generals, all also longing just as tired as their soldier while not doing any manual labor were panicking. They were lap dogs of their masters who wanted those horns.

They have been bad dogs who didn't do as their master commands. Guess what'll happen to them? Yeah, they get beat. Whether they learn to be more timely or not, they still get beat and possibly abandoned.

When they get abandoned, they go from a comfortable and fat dog to a stray scavenging for food. Their political career would be in shambles if they don't please their master.

This is not the same for Fulcrum, who is his own support. His father and mother were both powerful people with many men. When they died, Fulcrum inherited everything and naturally, he inherited his parent's power.

He also has a backing, but that backing is just a back-up plan to fall onto. He is a very meticulous man with man plans incase one of them fails. He doesn't want the horns, se he isn't ripping his hair out looking for it.

However, he is incensed at the fact that he can't find it. Just because he doesn't want it, doesn't me he can't have it right? That's his line of thinking.

Ever since that day when I left the camp with my men, he has been lookin at me like I was a criminal who stole, but he doesn't have proof.

He constantly called me to dinner and brunch to lightly interrogate me under the guise of having a little chat. I knew his plot and just gave "non-answers".

Answers that are answers at first glance, but don't answer the actual question. It s a cool way of diverting their attention so they think that you answered them properly.

After nearly another month of waiting, they finally contacted me. Rosé sent me another letter that had one simple command, but it was the command that I was waiting for.

The letter read:

"Stop this"

That was it. Nothing else. It wasn't even written with calligraphic handwriting as it was supposed to me.

I start stopping this charade with pleasure. First things first, I need to plant the false horns somewhere and find them like it was an easter hunt.

I got the horns back from Lyca a while ago and when I did, I smoothed out the edges and made sure to make it look pretty.

To make it look more authentic, I killed a demon from the captured lot and spread his brains and such over the root of the horns, which I didn't clean and smooth out on purpose.

'Time to monger some jealousy and envy from the common folk. This might be fun'
