18 years earlier...
"Honey, is this normal?" Dernamia asked her husband. "No, honey, it's not," Angelone shook his head. They both stared at their new daughter in worry. They had been secluded ever since they got married because they married each other. Dernamia was a demon, but Angelone was an angel. It was a forbidden love.
For this reason, they had no idea what could be wrong with their child, especially since they couldn't consult a doctor. They had never seen anyone like her, as she looked like a mixture of both parents. She had the fair skin of an angel, but the dark hair of a demon. Her eyes were the most brilliant Violet, a beautiful blend of her mother's red and her father's blue eyes. They were both surprised by her differences.
"Mom, what's wrong? Dad?" Coal stumbled forward, his blue irises shining in the dim light. Raziel also came up next to him, his own red eyes glimmering. As much as they were different, they could appreciate their brotherhood.
"It's nothing, honey," Dernamia sniffed, wiping her tears before turning to her children with a forced, but honest smile. "Why aren't you two asleep?" Angelone asked. "We couldn't sleep. We want to sleep with you tonight," Raziel explained.
The two parents looked at each other, and tried to think of an excuse so they could say no. "Why not?" Raziel asked. Their eyes widened before they remembered that he could read minds. Demons were the only creature who could read minds, but Raziel was an angel. It was guessed that he actually DID receive traits from his demon mother, besides just his red eyes.
"Well, honey... We need to keep your sister with us tonight. There's not enough space for all 3 of you," Dernamia spoke. Coal pouted, but spoke up, "Can we see?"
The two were confused at what he meant before they realized that they were talking about their new sibling. Angelone nodded, "Yes, but be gentle."
They moved aside and gave the two brothers way to look at their sister. They approached her and looked down at her. "Woah," Coal gasped. "She's so pretty!" Raziel exclaimed. The parents smiled at each other. "She's so different," Coal looked up at his parents, a confused look on his face. They had a worried look on their faces now, hoping that it wouldn't be so obvious.
"If a three-year-old notices, I don't think it's as hidden as we thought," Dernamia sighed. Angelone just hugged her, trying to comfort her.
"So what's her name?" Raziel asked, trying to completely change the subject. The couple looked at each other, realizing they hadn't thought about it. "We don't know," Dernamia shook her head. "Can we name her?" Coal asked, referring to his twin and himself. Angelone smiled and shrugged, nodding.
"Hmmm, I don't know what we can call her though," Raziel said, scratching the side of his head. The twins looked at each other for minutes non-stop. They looked like they were communicating through their eyes. Dernamia and Angelone looked at each other out of the corner of their eyes, the suspense heavy in the air.
Finally, the two looked away and smiled, looking like they had decided. "Well, honey, what did you two decide?" Angelone asked. They didn't respond, but only looked down at their sister.
"We promise to always love you," Raziel smiled at her. "We promise to always protect you," Coal continued for his brother. The two parents smiled at each other, happy that the kids accepted their sister. "So what will you name her?" Dernamia asked. "Tell us, honey," Angelone urged them.
Both of them said at the same time, "Sofia."
