Chapter 5 - He's looking for her

My hair was almost pinned up right for tonight's Anima Luna Dance. As I looked on at myself in the mirror, I found snow white hair curled in layers and wound on top of my head. A few curls were set free on account of making my hair style look gorgeous. I plucked a few diamonds from my collection and presented my ears some sparkle for the night. With a few more fixes of my makeup, I'm finally satisfied with the finishing product.

Smoothing down the lace trimming, I mess with the flow of the dress as I twist and turn. The lace sleeves extend to my elbows as the skirt descends to my knees. The dress was a brilliant light blue that helped my eyes pop. Walking in the heels was a disaster, so I opted out for a pair of white flats to fit with my white handbag. I observed myself once more before striking up the courage to head on out.

The boys—Trance, Eliphas, and Prospero—should be in the clearing I helped set up yesterday. All I had to do was walk next door so Jadis, Evanora, and I can head over to the clearing for the dancing and the mingling. Since the wolves only arrived this morning, we've decided to skip the luncheon and start with the Anima Luna Dance instead. The wolves seemed fine with the whole ordeal, so we were initially alright with how things turned out anyway.

It seemed to be pretty peaceful from both sides, but I was still skeptical of the wolves and if they might try anything. I could only hope the rest of the week was going to be alright, with all the games and tests there are going around.

With a sigh, I smile to myself in the mirror and head towards Evanora's cottage. I recite a quick spell, alerting Evanora I'm on my way. I knocked twice on the wooden door when I reached it. After a few seconds, Evanora opened up and then the two of them come out all Faeried. Evanora wears a long, black dress, which enhances her flames a bit more. Her hair was down for the night, as was Jadis' red locks. She wore a knee-length scarlet dress, matching her infamous red locks. While Jadis wore heels, Evanora wore wedges.

Once the three of us were ready to go for the night, we began towards the clearing where there was music playing. Many other female Wickens are forced to display their single life in a jar for these wolves, and I knew every Wicken hated it. I absolutely disliked the fact we had to parade ourselves around until we found a male suitable enough for us. We might as well go to an auction.

We arrived to the clearing, and I spot many different males of all different shapes and colors, just as Wickens were. It was when we stopped to listen to our Elder Roake speak that I saw the wolves. Many of them were very emotionless or reserved, but from what I saw, a great deal of them conversed with themselves rather than any of the male Wickens. I'm sure each creature was happy for it, but it made a severe divide between our species.

With a cough, my attention is directed to the stage as I notice Elder Roake deliver his speech. "Ladies and gentleman," he spoke softly before clearing his throat. "I would personally like to thank everyone for coming to tonight's Anima Luna Dance. We hope you may enjoy tonight and the food we have prepared. In honor of the Lycans and the Weres, we have prepared a very hearty feast, so please, dig in and have a wonderful time. May the Anima Luna be gracious of you all." He raises a hand, calling to the night. All Wickens do the same, smiling before the actual dance begins.

"Please, let the festivities begin!" Elder Roake raises both hands high in the air, commencing for us all to dance, eat, drink, etc.

An eruption of applause and music soon rang out after Elder Roake spoke. Many of the Wickens began to dance and sing, enjoying themselves to the fullest. The wolves, on the other hand, seemed to glare at the Wickens with distaste and obnoxiousness. I simply began to ignore them as Jadis and Evanora went to dance. I was stuck with their handbags, and I was probably going to be stuck with them for the rest of the night, too.

Soon, the party was in full merriment as more wolves began to join in as they begin to wander with their eyes. I watched one male wolf focus in on a female Wicken with a male Wicken as they danced. The wolf seemed rigid as he watched them together. He never moved from his spot, nor did he ever stray his eyes from the witch. I looked closer, and found that it was Sadrine, an old duel mate, that caught the eyes of a wolf.

Then, when the song changes, the wolf moves, steadily picking up pace to be with the emerald haired Wicken. As he approached, Sadrine only stares at the male wolf for a moment before accepting his offer to dance. It was truly amazing of her answer to cause such a handsome smile on a gorgeous male. A smile graced my lips as I watched them dance—actually, Sadrine was teaching him how to dance.

I giggled at the moment between the two and the sight warmed my heart. The wolf was gentle and caring, not at all like they are at war. He seemed to glow at the sight of her, and the smile never left his face as long as she was with him. It was something very rare that I couldn't wait to experience myself, whether it was with Fae, Mers, or even the wolves.

With a soft sigh, my eyes wander over to some chairs, and I smile with relief. My feet began heading over there within moments for some place to sit and observe quietly. A few Wickens and wolves had walked into my path so I try to go around them politely, only to wait for more people to pass by. I started growing impatient until there was an open space and I dashed right through it.

A satisfied smile appears on my mouth, and I finally have some time to rest. But before I could sit down, Evanora rushes to me in a haste. "Oh, my gosh! I have so much to tell you," she gushes with red cheeks.

Laughing, I can't help the smile on my face. I grab onto her shoulders, trying to keep her from running away. "Woah! Calm down Nora—" I begin to say, but with Evanora's excitement, there was no purpose for my words.

She suddenly grabs onto my shoulders, jumping up and down with pure escasty in her step. "It's a wolf!" She whisper-shouts with a wide smile. "I can't believe I got a wolf to notice me! It's like a dream come true," she continues to brag without any thoughts at all.

I smile, super happy for her scoring a wolf's attention. I touch her shoulder softly, guiding her attention to me. "I'm so happy for you! Now, all you have to do is keep his attention," I remark, winking at her. I could tell she was happy herself and that's all I could ever ask for.

She blushes like a virgin in the sheets, pushing me on the shoulder. "Stop it!" She whines.

I only laugh a bit more before she admits, "Oh my. Mara, he's so handsome! He has the eyes of Jadis when she finds another prank of Eliphas'." She sighs dreamily. One hand fans herself as the other rests on the table, supporting Evanora's body.

I begin to ask about him more when I spot a male wolf in search of something. His head continues to search back and forth from the crowd until he stops his gaze on me. Then I see his green eyes that reminded me of Jadis' when she's pissed. It suddenly dawned on me that this must be the wolf Evanora's talking about, and he's looking for her and not me.

A smirk rests on my face as I stop Evanora's mouth from blubbering and turn her focus on the hunk marching towards us. She immediately silences her gums and blushes. I have to push her into him to make her talk to him. He doesn't even notice me as I push her forwards, he only scoops Evanora up and whisks her off to the trees. I smile contently as I watch them go, wishing I could have as much fun as they were now.
