Chapter five.
The silence would be broken by a demon rushing the shield barrier striking out clashing iron on iron as the hounds pushed him back making the demon stumble a bit and that's when the chaos would ensue "hold them back men we can win this their not even that strong" Riker would say as he would hold his ground holy relic in his hand ready for the first wave to come towards them as the
fallen angel would watch to ensure his work was complete.
Swords would lock as time would seem to slow between each strike as if each part knew exactly where the other would swing next.." Riker would call out to his men as more of them would fall leaving them with a handful of hounds as there were still about 15 demons standing ready to fight "let's go get out we need to leave.." Slowly as the hounds killed the demon stopping them they would shadow walk back to their reinforcements some falling due to exhaustion some from injuries as medics tended to them as the fresher hounds rushed up the stairs for it only to be too late.
Leaving nexus, Hayden, Riker and hunter in the room with still about twelve demons ...Hayden had a cut running down his left calf and along his chest as he kept fighting with two demons attacking him at once each time he got hit it's like a new fire would burn in his heart to full the fight ...Riker was in little better condition facing three at once as he blocked and parried taking one of them down only to have spear stab in his leg as he fell crying out in pain and as the spear was still embedded in him he would be held down by the demons. He would lean to the left to bite into the closest demon injection lava into the wound completely taking the being by surprise as the demon didn't take long to burn up and fall to ash before the other kicked Riker in the face knocking him out as he lay there near death gates just dancing on around it so it would seem.
Hunter would continue to block and parry slicing a few demons in his wake bringing the total down to eight as the enemies surrounded the three hounds protecting Riker making it that much harder to defend themselves as they had to overreach to protect their commander and comrade on the battlefield each man exhausted in pain and near the point of giving up… but each man's grip on their swords would only prove to be tighter and their strikes seemed to be fulled by their sheer rage alone as the three could hear the door being pounded on by their reinforcements each man just kept repeating just one more just one more to kill.
Nexus being the new of the group on a mission at least was surprisingly doing well as he was not quite yet tired out as the other three were higher ranking and targeted first he had been fighting one on one taking fewer strikes and blocking more cutting demons down as they came within a few strikes taking two down recently taking the number down to six along with the others kills but protecting Riker was proving difficult there was a lot of blood pouring from his commander he just wished the medics could stabilize him… but he couldn't think too much about that now or he would become distracted and at worst he would die in this miserable mannor and leave the others even worse off.
As the few remaining demons were slain the men would finally break down the door as if it was held by magic. hunter and Hayden had taken the fallen in cuffs after cutting his wings from him ensuring his escape would impossible both of them taking a sort of pleasure that would be wrong for an angel to feel when doing so as the angel went from berating them to threatening them to begging them not to do it that he could as they would quote in their report help save them from their enslavement from the queen….
Total men left by the end of the headcount seventeen of forty hounds that came on this mission 5 of those hounds injured unable to fight one of those being Riker as medics would attend to them …. They couldn't return home just yet he wouldn't make it; they couldn't call reinforcements in fear of a larger enemy force making it to them before the rest of the soldiers did. The next few would be rough, to say the least as they were stuck with a fallen angel and what seems like a whole planet filled with foes whether it would be human angels or demons hunter would think as he slid down a wall finally able to relax the rest of the forces all in one room as they slowly collected the dead they could find and bring the evermore ironically for them called dog tags to take him with them burning the rest of the hound's body.
Hayden gathered the reaming forces as he spoke leaning on the table" I'm grateful for every one of you men and how bravely you fought for us and our survival not some queen on the angelic throne who sends us after their rejects and fallen ...now we cant return home just yet we have to wait till our wounded become stable including our commander Riker who has been worked on for the past two hours in an attempt to stabilize him ...we can't say if more people are coming or what the fallen had planned we need to be ready for a fight just in case it is coming so get the rifles ammo to get some food and some rest and be ready to repel the enemy not if but when they come …" dismissed men ill take the first watch as he climbed the stairs his healing already taking effect on his leg and chest.
Once he got to the roof he took in a deep breath of fresh air as the dead bodies and the fires were in the forest to the north of them keeping the area well lit as he would turn to see.
