Chapter 42 - Purify

The Elven's curse, according to Arion, was the leading cause of death by most elves if they did not reach their prime age. It also affects any elf living in the village once the forest has set on fire. Hence, Mother Nature cursing the Elven species.

Similar to the ignited trees, the woodlands will choose one prominent elf in the village and use it against the townspeople, inculcating havoc in their society. The black smoke burned from the crisping leaves will find its way to the targeted elf, leading to its sedated demise.

Once the curse has implanted inside the individual's body, there is nothing more that they can do to stop the spread of this disease.

I cannot formulate any scientific theories behind it, given that I am only a student back in my days. However, the illness they receive is akin to cancer cells produced by toxic arcane inflamed by the hellfire. These foreign malignants will slowly feed away from the host's life source and eventually kill it.

Some races are knowledgeable about the disease and could perceive the disrupted arcane's flow while most people cannot. They prefer calling themselves specialised alchemists and have a surface understanding of potions and the surrounding magic, so they effortlessly recognise these particles. It is the only Science that exists in this world consumed by magic and mythical beasts. However, their mastery is not enough for them to see what is going on inside someone's body, unlike me, who can uncomplicatedly discern them with my [scan].

"I think I can cure her," I pronounced while attempting to visualise and extract the smoke out from Natalia's body.

"Are you sure about it, Lake?" Elanor was the first person to step his foot forward, towards my side, and lean closely near my head. "That's my daughter we're talking to, not a stranger."

The tension fills the air with a dreadful feeling, making it suddenly more troublesome to breathe in. Elanor's piercing eyes narrow into me, observing whether I am prepared to accept the consequence that I have to face if I ever fail.

I choke to my saliva and deliberately gulp it all down as I feel overwhelmed by the intense killing intent oozing from Natalia's father. Beatrice, the person who needs to stop the occurrence, could not move her muscles even from her husband. The two Worcestershire couple and the elite Elven guards also freeze in fright, paralyse and unable to make an initiative.

I firmly give him a nod, confident enough to confide with the help of my status present inside of me.

Acknowledging my resolve, Elanor withdraws all of his ill scheme and places up the floor for me to do anything I wish for the sake of her daughter's life. With my trembling hands, I leisurely stride towards the sleeping girl and extend both of my hands, conjuring a spell that I think would do the trick.

However, the blue system-like screen halts me during the process, as if forbidding me to continue forward.

[Warning! You must be a high-class Priest or above to draw out the malicious substance.]

I tried it again yet miserably failed despite continuously pouring my hands and Natalia's body with the arcana that I have. The luminance collapses once it reaches her chest, particularly where her heart lies. It was also where the origin of the dark magic spread the toxin into her different nerves, disrupting the neighbouring organs and her brain.

Alas, nothing happened, and it quickly drained all of my arcane in an instant.

[Warning! Your arcane power has turned into zero! You need approximately 65 minutes to restore all your magic before casting any spells! If the player chooses to materialise spells below the cap, your stamina will act as your temporary arcane vessel.]

[Warning! Once you use your stamina vessel, you may feel nauseous, fatigue, dizziness, exhaustion, and even sudden shock or death. Please be careful, player.]

Instead of the usual azure-hued screen, the windows shift into a dark crimson colour, showing that the action I was about to perform will be harmful to my body. I immediately cut off transferring my arcane source and got back on the drawing board inside my head.

"No use," I remarked, after exhausting the first try of my million attempts. "I will see what I can do."

The system said something like a high tier Priest or above.

'Was it portraying to a class of some sort?' I wonder and rummage back to my system, checking If I have the required status to become a priest.

'System, is there a way for me to become an S. Class Priest?'

[Yes. However, you can only add one exceptional class to your present status. You can only get the rest of the classes with sheer hard work and determination.]

'So, I had an opportunity to enhance my status and freely choose a class from the beginning, but you never told me anything about it?' I retorted and blamed my system for not mentioning this crucial information sooner.

[You never asked]

It was waggish to think about it that this mere computer-generated, absurd system acts like an arrogant human being, even surpassing the limits of my patience.

'What do I need to become a priest?'

[You need to accept the offer]

'That easy, huh?'

[Yes]

[Lake, please keep this in mind. If you were to change into an S. Class Priest, you could never retrieve the extra, distinct class. There are a lot of classes that can make you the most powerful creature in the world. If you'd like, I can-]

'System, are there any classifications that can help Natalia here and uplift her curse?'

[None, Lake. Only becoming a priest will help her]

'Then I want to become an S. Class Priest.'

After hearing my proclamation, the scarlet window reverts to its usual sapphire shade.

[Do you wish to become a priest?]

"Yes," I unhesitantly accepted the offer, with its secondary confirmation following my statement. After a moment, the brilliant light borders me with the yellow and transparent radiance, restoring my arcane and strengthening my entire body. I can feel my worn-out muscles restructuring once again, with the scars healing to their fresh state.

[Class change confirmed! You are now an S. Class Goblin Priest! You earned the title: One of a kind Goblin (gives you bonus stats points)]

"Enough of that data!" I brush all the unimportant windows away and face Natalia's body. The smog from before became crystal to my globes and where it had come from inside her body.

"All I need to do is to destroy the cause of her malady," I utter while placing my stretched hands over to Natalia, sucking out the ominous dark fog.

At long last, the mist hastily hovers inside my palm, devouring the dark matter out from Natalia's vessel and turning it into my power. Much to my surprise, the black energy-consuming Natalia is fuel for my arcane, increasing my magic permanently and exponentially. There are no drawbacks from suctioning the curse, and the sorcery does not consume any substantial amount of arcane as well. I can also feel my body becoming light and ultimately heightening my senses.

[70% Done]

[In progress]

After eliminating all the variables inside, the inky magic source became golden with a pint of lavender surrounding her body. Even Arion, who was close to seeing the results, could not help covering his mouth from the shock at the occurrence.

"Mgnh…"

Her finger noticeably twitches, accompanied by her eyes weakly opening from her sleep. Afterwards, Natalia suddenly jerks off from her bed and violently coughs out a clammy cascade of stomach acid and blood out of her lips. The bed hair that she has is perceptible to our eyes, but that did not matter too much. What's important is that she is finally awake with her curse uplifted from her body.

Elanor and Beatrice rush towards their daughter, who has just aroused from her momentary slumber. Their worried faces of the couples prove that they truly care about the well-being of their daughter.

"Where am I?" She speaks her first words while hysterically gazing from left to right to her surroundings, observing what had happened before she had woken up.

"Natalia, how are you? Do you feel unwell? Tell us immediately so we can contact the doctors, okay?" Elanor bombards her with questions as if he was the bald, white rapper back from my previous world. Although his words did not rhyme, his tone was exceptional.

"Dear, let our daughter speak first!" With an abrupt and loud thudding sound, Beatrice's hands smack his head, leaving a pinkish hill in the middle of his forehead.

Having to learn his lesson, Elanor shuts his mouth for once and caresses his temple, frightened from what had happened. After concluding the short monologue skit, Beatrice and the rest of us slowly make our way beside Natalia, watching her as if she had risen from the dead.

"Mother? Father? Is that really you?"
