Chapter 3 - The Hobgoblin's (1)

"Class? Arcane? Skills?" I cried, baffled by the game-like features from the blue and window shaped screen. "Is this some kind of jest?!"

I look around and spot the awoken triad goblins studying their surroundings. Our eyes meet in an awkward disposition, making the four of us bewildered in fear.

"B-b-brother!" The nearest sprite merrily squeals at the sight of me and the two other faces. He moves to my direction and springs cheerfully while circling.

"Y-You look like me!" He yells once more, this time adding a mischievous grin painted on his face.

I could not help but do the same. However, instead of the happier smile that I could offer, a forced smirk envelopes my eerie face.

"Yeah. Nice to meet you too." I responded and averted my stare. Moments later, the two goblins dance in joy, latching their arms against each other, humming with their discordant beat.

The goblin who spoke with me grabbed my arm and invited me to join the rhythm. Unaware of what to do, I mimic the goblin's movements and hop like a lunatic, hoping to include myself in the party.

After exhausting all the energy inside of me, I insisted to my kindred to lie in the bag of hay for the time being.

The three goblins chuckle and continue to play together without ever wanting to get bothered. While I, on the other hand, try emitting a small scale spell on the palm of my hand.

"H20, dihydrogen monoxide, the components of water," I mumble. "Imagine these atoms combining into one."

My brain recreates an image of a drop of cosmic water floating above my hand. Currently, I wanted to try out my limits and test whether I can add more elements in my prowess.

In a trice, an orb of the clear and bluish drop of water appears hovering my palm, rotating endlessly like a wheel.

"Not as big as I had thought it would be."

I moved my hands to my side and noticed that the blob of water follows my every movement. The magic cast by the user will only follow the command. Putting my actions into motion, I aim my fingers directly to the dirty wall and imagine firing the liquid akin to a swift bullet. As I would have visualised, the azure shell of water blasts to the direction where I wanted and landed on the surface. The impact of the shock wave created a medium-sized wall, enough to fit an adult-sized fist of a human. It even produced an instant splash of water compacted from the rolling ball.

The three goblins that heard the commotion jolts from their feet and glared at the crust that I have produced. With an intemperate howl, the sprites congregated near the cavity and bombarded it with their fists.

"Stupid wall!"

"Stop scaring us, you piece of shit!"

"This is what you get to mess with us!"

Idiots. They are complete imbeciles that know nothing about locating the origin that churns out the sound. But, looking at the bright side, isn't this better for me? I wonder.

Lost in thought, I sneakily prepare my hand to shoot another water pellet on the close by hole, from the goblin's close by. With an unreal clicking sound, I discharged the liquid ball straight at their quarter, creating more chaos than what they can imagine.

"AAAAGH!" I do not know whether their cries are all from their frightened state or their uncontrollable behaviour. But seeing them in this state of panic simply satisfies my entertainment.

[Would you like to use your status points now?"]

"Damn this weird game-like screen," I curse the sapphire window abruptly popping up whenever it wants it to notify me. However, the descriptions laid out do not affect my vision nor hinders me from seeing.

"Points?" I asked myself while pondering over the various strengths and abilities that I presently have.

I can bet everyone out there on the outskirts that my body is as weak as an ant wanting to survive in the middle of winter.

[Next page------>]

[Types of equipment]

I didn't exactly notice the arrow pointing over to the next page of my level. Thus, I instinctively curse myself while quickly browsing at the distinct layer of my tools and clothes.

{Legs- Shabby goblin's cloth}

{Right-hand weapon- None}

{Rings (You can wear and activate at least 10 rings in total!)-None}

I let out a heavy sigh after taking a skim of my stature. I can even see a 3d form of myself on the screen, usually displayed in games.

"I wonder what are the stats of the hobgoblins that entered the cave yesterday?"

As if on cue, massive audio of footsteps came stampeding at our direction. The sound takes place at the end of the unlighted abyss, showing the approach of the giants.

Startled, everyone came running to the centre and formed an unkempt line to greet the incoming very important personage. The moment their shadow appears in our vision, the tension finally rises.

Ten of the hobgoblins in total introduce themselves to us in an unsettling manner. Each of them shares the exact characteristics as to the other. The only differences that I can shape are their clothes and their taste of weapons.

As I thoroughly stare at their figures, another darker-blue box reports to my sight. I can see dozens of identification portraying those ten hobgoblins roaming within our reach. Eight of them have the same stats and above level 25. However, two of those gigantic sprites have their categories; leader and sub-leader. Their vitalities and strengths also exceed among the rest of their peers, which makes them stand out.

"You there!" The black-hued hobgoblin points his forefinger towards my side. He calls out for the goblin that I initially met after blasting the uncouth magic.

"M-me?" The scared sprite quivers as he steps foot closer to the hobgoblin, unaware of what to comply.

Soon, the gigantic monster waves his finger, signalling the lesser goblin to follow his lead. The unfortunate goblin could not disobey his errands and hurry in his direction, tailing the greater sprite from behind.

"What do you think he will do to him?" I leak out my voice in a whisper, hoping to get some answers out of our situation. But my words seem to bring me misery rather than clues as I discern one of the bulky guards approaching me.

"Noisy fella," The old guard said. "Do you want to die?"

In a spur of a second, the maddened hobgoblin inelegantly swings his club at my fore, aiming for a kill. I, who had just placed all of my statuses in dexterity, had the chance to escape from my death.

"Who knew adding three points would make me faster!" I uttered out loud and immediately regretted my decision.

"Come here!" The mad titan announced and chased me to the corner.

Repeating my movements from before, I jump as high as my two feet could and vaulted out from the weapon's range. Landing safely on the ground, I looked at my surroundings and hid at the holes I created on the wall.

"Where did he go?" Confused, the hobgoblin that attacked me searches every nick and corner for my trembling body.

Thankfully, his brain was as big as an ostrich and did not even consider checking the sizeable gap on the panel.

"You don't. The insect had vanished." Broken, but coherent, the mighty ogre-like creature spoke with confidence in his face. This hobgoblin cares more about his pride more than the pesky rat such as I.

In a matter of a few seconds, the pack of hobgoblins eventually strides off back to the tunnel. With them is our friend, whom I met.

"B-b-brother…" The two goblins sulk while calling out his nameless figure in the black abyss.

I, who hold no relation to their feelings, return to my seat and train my body once more.

After two more days trapped inside this cave, both my experience and creativity of producing advanced magic puts me in a bottleneck. I cannot earn any chances of training with my "arcane".
