My mind kept racing as I followed Roy into the next class, which was English. There were more people in this class than there were in the last one. I felt the urge to vomit since I didn't do too well around big groups of people. I followed Roy to his seat and quickly snagged the one next to his. He placed his backpack on the floor as he opened it, pulling out a red journal. I quickly question his hobbies, attempting to make small talk.
"Oh, I just work out, deal with school, play games, etc. Nothing too exciting." Roy said, making his tone sound like his life was boring.
"Oh, that's alright. Your hobbies seem really fun. I'm not too different myself." I quickly responded, trying to make him feel less ashamed.
He grinned and nodded, quickly being absorbed right back in the journal. The bell rung and the teacher stood up in the front of the class, introducing themselves as Mr.Harvard. The class went quiet as Mr.Harvard kept speaking. He was a laidback kind of teacher, who was little to no problem with students. The feeling in my gut was already telling me that this class would be my favorite. I excitedly took out my journal and pencil as the teacher explained what he had to write about.
"Since we just started a new school, I won't make this assignment too hard. Write about what do you expect from this school year."
I expected to hopefully find a program from the school that lets juniors skip up a grade if they do the requirements for it. There was nothing else I could really think of, until I realized how lonely I was. I looked around, students engaged in their own lives and conversations, and then there was me. Just a lonely orange cat with no purpose. I wish I could make a couple friends, or at least one anyway. No effort was made from either side though. No one would come up to me, and I was too much of a wuss to throw myself out there. Things didn't make much sense after Roy kept writing things in his journal. I asked him what it was and he said it's personal. I quickly understood and went back to my blank paper that laid on my desk. I quickly wrote down my answers and turned them in to the teacher by walking up to his desk.
"Here you go." I said in a shy, quiet tone. I gently place the paper on his desk.
"Oh, why thank you sir. Your name is...Ali, right?" He said, giving of a curious smile. His eyes quickly turn to my paper as he starts reading my answers.
"Yup, that's me." I say, quickly blushing a bit. Mr.Harvard took a good look at me with his hazel eyes and already knew I could do great. He didn't say it though, but I could tell by his expression. The class began to start getting louder, making Mr.Harvard's words less audible. Since I was the first one done, I pretty much had a free period.
I looked at the clock on top of the doorway, it read:
9:23.
Since the school has a growing population, lunch last for a full hour, rather than thirty minutes. I sat back in my seat, oblivious what to do next. My boredom level quickly grew as I looked around. Books, shelves, students, class supplies, they were everywhere. Needless to say, my mind had full of thoughts but at that point, I was just ready for lunch to start. I placed my head down on the desk and started thinking about Roy. He seemed like the only one who actually paid attention to me so far. Everyone else was just the same, but Roy, he was different, he was special. I smiled as I thought more about it, feeling my face warm up. Everyone was waiting for the bell to ring for lunch, seeing themMy stomach roared at the thought of what today's lunch would be, despite me being a picky eater. Since I was the first, and probably the only student done with the assignment, I pulled out my journal and started to write my thoughts in it.
"Just got done with an easy assignment. Sitting in class, waiting for lunch. Roy seems to be occupied doing his own thing. Might ask him if he works out because his muscles are being noticeable."
Before I wrote anything else, I felt my eyes forcefully staring at his muscles again. They looked so buff, so firm, so strong. Hell, a part of me wanting to feel them, but that would be weird. My dad doesn't like the LGBTQ+ community, but I fully support them. He thinks that a man being with a woman is "normal." Needless to say, I believed that anyone could be who they wanted to be with, regardless of gender, but everyone is different. I placed my head on the desk, waiting for class to be over just like any other student would. The more I waited, the more my stomach roared for lunch to begin. I decided to try to forget about it and to think about something, anything that would get my mind off of food. My paws were on the desk, frantically moving due to my emotions towards Roy. They weren't exactly transparent, but they were indeed confusing. He tapped me and I felt my eyes staring, staring at his face. I immediately coughed and looked away, trying to hide my blush. With my arm over my mouth, I managed to say:
"Yea, what's up?"
He paused for a minute, debating on whether or not he should say what he wanted to say.
"I was wondering if you would like to sit at lunch, with my group of friends." He said, placing his hand behind his head.
I immediately screamed inside my body, but I played it cool and said, "Sure, why not?"
He gave me a welcoming smile and said "Thank you."
I wasn't sure what that meant, but I was glad that I did something he could thank me for at least. After a long class period of conversations, the bell rung and the students ran out of the class like a zoo. Me and Roy were in the back though, casually walking to the cafeteria. We talked about a lot of things, as if we knew each other for our whole lives. I can say that if felt good to have someone to talk to, along with someone that even noticed me. I wanted to tell him how much I appreciated him, but my thoughts and our conversation got cut off by a high pitched voice saying:
"Uhhhh...who is this Roy?"
We were standing by the entrance of the cafeteria. Based on their tone, I could already tell that we weren't going to get along. She was a tan colored fox with black and red pom poms. Her hair was blonde, long, and curly. Almost the whole school was head over heels for her from what I heard back in English class.
Roy, in a calming voice said "Britney, this is Jay, my new friend. This is his first year here. Jay, this is Britney, my girlfriend."
The only word I was able to make out was "girlfriend." I know it was none of my business, but I asked: "How long have you two been together for?"
Britney gave me a look of disgust, but it seemed as if she only answered the question in a polite way because Roy was next to her. He placed his arm around her and I felt a bit of disgust. She said, "Well, if you must know, we make a year in 2 weeks."
A year....
"Interesting."
Before the conversation got any more awkward, Roy rushed us both into the cafeteria and waited for food in the lunch line.
Oh boy...
