Evelyn's pov

I am Evelyn Carla. I am 22 years old, who just graduated last year from a state university. I have a mother who I really care about. She is the only family member I have. She is the light and support of my life in this cruel world.

How could she be the only one, it's all because of my father. The man of wickedness, who left my mother alone without mercy.

I was born in a full of warmth and loving family. My life was simple, but everything changed when that woman came into our life. Rich woman who was crazy about my father whereas my father worked only as her personal driver. My father started to change, not as warm as usual, came home always at night, and his face was unreadable.

As for my mother, the kind and gentle woman could only understand. Without being able to ask, because my mother always believed in my father.

Flashback on

At that time, I just came home from college. From my parents bedroom, I heard my mother's crying voice, as well as my father's voice apologizing. I winced in confusion, when I heard my mother's low voice.

"How could you? am I not good enough for you? "

It was my mother's voice who asked my father.

The door was not closed, so that I could see clearly what happened between my father and mother. I could see my mother sat on their bed and cried.

While my father was kneeling down on the lap of my mother's thigh and apologizing to my mother.

"I'm sorry, I didn't even know this would be like this. But what should I do, Mrs. Kana is pregnant and I am the father of the baby in her womb," explained my father.

As if I were struck by a lightning, when I heard my father's confession. How could my father do this and betrayed my mother. A woman who had been with him for 20 years, who accompanied him during difficulty times. I admited that my father's face was very charming. In fact, my beauty was derived from my father. Even though his age was above fourty, but my father's body was still strong and sturdy.

I am not surprised, if my father's employer was crazy about my father. Moreover, Mrs Kana was a widow with abundant wealth. But why it had to be like this, my father was not a person who was hunger for the world. I could not understand what was going on.

"The baby is innocent. We better separate. You can marry her, and live happily with her" said my mother with sobs, making me unable to take it anymore.

Brak

I slammed the door, shocking my parents. They stared me in surprise, when they saw my face covered full in tears.

"Enough Daddy, you better go. Don't disturb our life anymore. I'm very disappointed with you, Dad " I said.

My father, Rayhaan Carla, showed immediately a shocking face, as I insolently without permission barged into the room.

"Lyn, did you hear everything? " asked my father.

With a look of regret, he got up and was about to come to me.

"Stop, don't approach me, Dad. I'm disappointed. I don't want to have a father like you," I said angrily.

My mother yelled at me, shook her head and looked at me in disappointment.

"Lyn, Mother never taught you like that!" yelled my mother

"Lyn, I'm sorry dear. Dad was wrong, but Dad- "

I did not respond. I immediately ran away from them. Bringing feelings of disappointment, not only because of my father's betrayal, but also because my mother yelled at me. After the 20 years of my life, I got snapped by my mother. I felt disappointed. My only intention was to help my mother. I locked myself in the room all night, ignoring the knock on the door from my mother calling me to dinner.

The next day, I no longer saw my father. I was also reluctant to ask my mother because I was still annoyed when I remembered the sound of the yelling from my mother. But seeing the sad look on my mother's face made me powerless. I approached my mother and hugged her tightly from behind and looking for warmth, in the midst of my mother's pathetic circumstances.

"I'm sorry Mom, I was wrong," I said regretfully.

My mother turned around and faced me with her usual warm smile. But unfortunately, I only saw sadness in my mother's eyes.

"No dear, don't apologize. I should be the one who apologize," said my mother softly.

She rubbed my hand, which was curled around her stomach.

After that there was no more conversation. We were both silent while still hugging and looking for comforter from each other.

Subsequently, our lives returned to normal. My mother worked as a chef at a famous restaurant. I was still in college, while trying to find a part-time job. I wanted to help my mother to earn money and lighten the burden on my mother. Thank goodness for tuition fees, I didnt have to think about it because when I was about to pay for administration, the officer told me that I was free from tuition fees until graduation.

I asked the administration clerk if I got a scholarship. But the officer just smiled, then said he did not know anything. I gave up. I should better be grateful and accepted with a happy heart.

7 months afterwards

My mother and I lived with happiness without my father. We complemented each other. I believed, right now my father was waiting for the birth of the first baby from a wife who was his superior. I heard that my father's new wife, had a daughter with the same age as me. But I didn't care.I was not interested about it.

As usual, I spent my time at my campus. In campus, I had a best friend called Riki Apriandi Gandhi. He is a nice, handsome and understanding man. He is unlike the others, who approached me on purpose.

Actually, I knew that many of my classmates liked me. But it would be better if I was pretending not to know and ignoring them. Because I just wanted to focus on my graduation and my mother.

"Lyn, are you really not coming?" asked Riki once again, made me snort and tired of his repeated questions.

"Yes, I'm about to go straight to ..." My speech stopped when I heard the ringing of the phone from inside my bag. I frowned in surprise, when I saw a foreign number on the Mobile screen.

"Who is it ?" asked Riki curiously.

I just shook my head. Then I decided to accept the call. Suddenly my whole body stiffened when I heard the person on the other side was talking. My body almost swayed, if only Riki didn't catch me immediately. Riki also took over my cellphone and asked for an answer to the person on the phone. Riki immediately dragged me, carried myself who was unconscious still in shock after hearing the bad news, and rushed to the hospital according to what the foreign caller said. My mother had an accident while she was going home from the work.

Flasback off

Today I visited my mother. As usual, I sat next to my mother who still liked to close her eyes because the doctor said that my mother became a vegetative patient or known as Persistent Vegetative State, PVS. PVS is a consciousness disorder in which patients with serious brain damage are partially conscious but do not show cognitive perceptions and reactions to the stimuli around them. My mother could only survive with the help of medical devices on her body.

"Mom, I got a job. Riki said the salary is great, that means the hospital costs can be handled," I muttered.

Everytime I came, I always tried to make a conversation with mother and hoped that she would make a respond.

I sighed and stroked my mother's thin arms gently.

"Huft... Quickly wake up Mom. I love you,Mom," I continued after sighing tiredly.
