Warning. Mentions of blood and death. You have been warned.
Mia
I really should have hugged her for some more time.
Because that was our last hug.
By the time I was back home, my home was burning in flames.
I jumped out of the car and rushed towards my home. I climbed the stairs it was covered in bright flames.
"Melissa!!!!!"
"Melissa, where are you????!!!!!"
I ran towards the library, I searched for her but couldn't see her. The library was of course filled with books and wooden cabinets, the fire was roaring there. Melissa wasn't there.
I got out and searched for the fire alarm button. Why didn't it go off?
It was a bloody setup!
I pressed it but nothing happened!
"Melissa, where are you?????"
I shouted at the top of my lungs.
She was not where I hid her and my home was getting weaker and weaker every second. I needed to do something quickly. The fire was spread all over the house. It was suffocating me.
I was really stressed now.
"Melissa!"
"Mia!"
I heard her! She was alive!
She was safe!
I dashed towards the sound it was coming from my room.
There she was standing, trembling with tears in her eyes.
"Mia! He came!"
Her voice sounded so foreign to my ears. I gave a quick glance to the roof which was going to collapse, it was moving slowly. The entry was blocked with fire and Melissa was standing in the middle of the fire ring.
"Melissa! Come here. Try to jump."
"I can't."
"You can! There's no time for this. Come on jump!"
I encouraged her but she was frozen in her place.
"Melissa, sweetheart you have a life. You got a second chance don't waste it! You can do this! You still have to be a scientist remember?"
"There's no use. He'll come again. He will destroy everything."
The roof was starting to come down I could hear it creaking.
"Melissa, I promise you he can't hurt you now. I promise."
I shouldn't have made promises I couldn't keep.
"I will teach that bastard a lesson but you need to be strong. Come here and we'll fight him together. I will end him I promise."
"I love you, Mia."
"Together."
"Together."
She smiled showing her cute little dimples.
She took a step forward towards me but never reached me.
The roof fell the next moment. She screamed when she saw it coming. Then there was silence. The silence was deafening. I couldn't do anything. My feet were glued. The roar of the fire pulled me out of my trance.
The smoke was making it very difficult to see and breathe. I felt very weak. I saw Melissa's hand. I jumped over the fire and reached her but before I could touch her hand my arm got trapped between the small cabinet and the floor. I tried to lift it, it felt like was lifting an elephant due to the suffocation. I coughed, my eyes were burning. I somehow removed my arm.
I heard a small explosion downstairs, maybe it was from the kitchen. Goddammit. I need to do something real quick, my home was going to explode.
Melissa was buried under the concrete, it was heavy for the normal Mia to lift the debris so imagine how this nearly suffocated Mia managed to remove it.
I'll give you an idea.
In the process, an iron rod graced my hand beautifully. Kindly note the sarcasm here. I wouldn't mind the blood oozing out of the wound under normal conditions but now was really not the time. It was definitely going to leave a scar. I wanted a scar all my life but I couldn't exactly dance here and jump around screaming excitedly, 'yay! See I finally got a scar.'
Now all I saw was red. I was fuming now. With the rage and the adrenaline pumping, I pushed the debris above her. What I saw next killed me. Melissa was in the pool of her own blood coming out of her skull. I felt her pulse... None.
"No!!!!!!"
I heard a blood screeching scream. I realized it came from me when my throat started to hurt.
"Mel, please wake up. Please."
I whispered. No one could hear it except me, Melissa was already dead.
She died in front of me and I couldn't do anything.
She was gone.
I heard another explosion and I knew it was time to say goodbye.
I hugged her lifeless body. My hair got stuck in her necklace. It had a picture of us when we were kids. I was the one who gave it to her. I gently removed it. This would be a reminder of my failure.
I know I had to go now but it was easier said than done. I jumped over the fire again and gave Melissa one last look.
"I love you and I will take revenge. I promise. This promise won't be broken even if I'm killed in the process."
I rushed out of the house and reached my car. I gave my home, the place I grew up with my dear sister one last look before it exploded right in front of my eyes. I just stood there watching anything and everything I had destroyed right in front of me and I couldn't stop this mishap.
Melissa was gone and I couldn't even bury her.
What the bloody hell happened???
It was totally not fair to her.
I felt dizzy and the sudden pain in my hand. The pain of losing everything took over the pain in my hand. I was still losing blood so I took my scarf from the backseat and wrapped my wound.
Why did no one call any authorities?
Why didn't anyone do anything?
The answer was simple.
It was Brian William.
He came here to kill her. The fire was his way of showing me who had the power. He has given me a chance to escape because he thinks that I'm weak. Well, I would gladly take this chance only to come back and kill him myself. I just had to wait for the opportunity.
I need to stay low for some time.
With that thought, I left my city, the place where I grew up, had all my memories. Everything that I had was here. But it was snatched away from me.
I will not accept this.
Brian William will pay.
Sometime later the authorities did come. They confirmed a young woman was killed in the accident. Accident??? I was the only person who lived there so people assumed that I was the one who got killed. They arranged a car that looked like mine and also burnt it. They made sure that other people knew I was dead. The reports were made the way Brian William wanted. No one had the guts to ask him anything.
My parents were so shocked by hearing about my death that they sold the land and got settled on the other side of the country. Their workplace was near now. Money on gas and airplane tickets would be saved.
Brian William assumed that I would accept my defeat.
What he didn't know that he had just started a game and I would be damned if I didn't finish it.
Games on boy.
