The breath on the back of her neck evened out, and she knew he had finally fallen asleep, tired out from yet another argument, they had had that afternoon.
His arm tightened around her waist, and she tried to focus on that, instead of the words they had thrown at each other. And the many objects that had shattered against whatever they had hit. Broken like the pieces of their relationship, that were becoming harder to fix; no glue in the world was strong enough to put it all back together.
Day after day, she asked herself why they were still together. Why they hadn't just called it quits and gone their separate ways. Why was it so difficult to just walk away?
Everything now was just routine, like something that they had gotten used to. And without the other person, their lives would lose meaning and become dull.
