The next morning Chubs went to Janet's room to check on her before she wakes up. Chubs gently opened the door without even making a tiny noise so that Janet wouldn't know and sneaked in. She tiptoed to where Janet was lying, her each step taken with great care. She gently sat beside Janet and caressed her hair, eventually returning the fringes of her blonde hair that covered her face back to where it's supposed to be.
That's when a maid came in and interrupted saying," The doctor is waiting downstairs. " Chubs cautioned the maid and gestured shh to not let Janet wake up. Chubs wrapped Janet in blanket and turned to leave the room. But suddenly, Janet held her hand from behind and smiled at her weakly when Chubs looked back.
"You're awake earlier than me today, Chubs? I don't know why I am feeling this tired. When did I go to sleep yesterday. I can't seem to recollect anything." Janet said as she got up and tired her curls into a messy bun. Chubs shrugged and said nonchalantly as if nothing happened the previous day in particular," You must be tired of school work, sweetheart. Don't be too hard on yourself. I know you can score the best of all even if you do nothing. Alright?" Chubs left the room then, given the doctor was waiting downstairs for her.
But Janet, left behind in the room was still pondering why she couldn't recollect anything from the day before. She began to feel the same ringing sound in her ears from before. She felt the voices of people echoing in her ears.
" You'll complete our works in a day and return the books back the next time we meet."
"You must be tired of schoolwork."
"What do I do with this rude girl?"
The voices grew louder and harsher so much so that she had to close her ears tightly with her hands even though it didn't help much. She pressed both her hands against the thick blanket that was lying beside her and closed her eyes tightly. She wanted to summon Chubs but she was hardly able to. She looked totally lost and vulnerable at that moment.
Meanwhile Chubs met with the young lady doctor, Lucinda, who was waiting outside until then and took her to the backyard to talk things out. Chubs made her sit on a chair and served some tea which she asked her to drink first. While the doctor made herself comfortable, Chubs went to a maid and enquired where Susan was. The maid informed her that Susan had went over to a friend's early in the morning and would be only home late in the evening.
Chubs heaved a deep sigh of relief for Susan wouldn't come to know about her meeting with the doctor then. Nor would she come to know about Janet's illness. Chubs had been keeping this secret ever since Janet was diagnosed with her PTSD from the shock she received upon her mother's death. Chubs had even kept this a secret from Lucas and Susan as well. Needless to say, Janet doesn't know a thing about her illness. To put in simple words, only Chubs and Lucinda knows. And that's what worrying Chubs the most. If anything were to happen to Janet, it'd be totally her responsibility.
But Chubs never regretted taking that task upon her shoulders. She believed that it'd never be enough no matter what she does for she is so much indebted to Janet's mom. So Chubs literally kept this secret for Janet's sake. She feared that the other people would judge Janet if she were to disclose this secret ever to anyone else.
Chubs took a seat herself beside the doctor and asked anxiously," Why doctor? Why has it come back now? She was fine all these years. Will she be alright?"
Lucinda adjusted her glasses before she said," We can hardly say anything certain about a person's mental state. It keeps switching from time to time. But I can say something for sure. Something painful enough to hurt her mind must have definitely happened to trigger her PTSD. She must have been stressed out and then her PTSD came back. Her other self might like to do for her, those things that the real Janet couldn't achieve by herself. Once she accomplish those things, She'll woke up to be her real self. One thing that we can do for the time being , is to keep a watch on her and just make sure that she wouldn't hurt herself at any cost."
Chubs kept anxiously cracking knuckles while the doctor was explaining things. That's when she noticed Janet coming towards them. The doctor also saw her and got worried if she should hide herself or not to not let Janet know that she's her patient. But Chubs noticed is that cold expression on Janet's face. It was that expression she had on her face when she had the PTSD attack the previous day. Chubs got totally perplexed since she was pretty sure that the Janet she saw that morning was her true self indeed.
Janet greeted Lucinda but Lucinda worried since she still couldn't figure out what to say if Janet were to ask her why she has come. But Janet went straight to Chubs and asked," Chubs, are you alright? Your doctor has come here. I knew it. You were not looking so good when you came to my room this morning. Your face has turned pale and ill. You should take care of yourself more, okay? I'm leaving for school. I'll come back soon! Toodles! "
Janet left saying that after giving Lucinda a goodbye grin. After she left, Lucinda asked Chubs," You introduced me to her as your doctor?" Chubs chuckled and answered," I knew you guys would confront each other some day. So yeah. . I had to take this precaution, you know?"
Doctor also soon left after saying, " Yeah, I agree." And Chubs went in after clearing the table so that Susan wouldn't pick up any hint at all.
