Chapter 1 - Prologue: Ray 'Soul' Harc

I am Ray, Ray Harc. A boy from parents that both are soldiers. Nothing much to explain about myself.. Since all I had to go through since child was just endless endurance of training.

I was born in a midst of war, of course I've seen many things. I've seen destruction, deaths and despair. Yet however, I've also witnessed hope and survival between those people that is drowning in sorrow.

Because of this, I knew better that life wouldn't be enough without suffering. Gaining both of their permission, I was enrolled into several martial arts academy and even into the military recruit training.

I've known everything I need to know. I've experienced, practiced and absorbed many martial arts, Silat, Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, almost everything have I absorbed into this body of mine.

Despite all that, I've trained how to use guns and knife. Perfectly trained as I reached the age of 17.

Which is, also the year where I discover a painful truth about my parents..

They were drafted into war when I was 14, which means it has been three years since they left. A letter was sent to me before I was moving out, and that letter..

"This letter is written as an intent to explain everything to you, Private Ray Harc.

I, as the leading commander of Platoon 67, Alpha Squad One, Jack Mason, hereby declared your parents/guardians as MISSING IN ACTION

Our search and rescue team with an additional of cleanup crew had did their best to find the remnants of Alpha Squad One. We had the total of 17 KIA, 16 Injured and 9 Missing out 50 people, only 8 was safe and only have minor injuries.

Although I was sad to say this, your parents' dog tag was not found. We had no clues, nor traces of where they might be. We did not even have any slightest information where they have gone to.

Without further ado, I am sincerely sorry, and symphatize you over what happened to them. As a matter of fact, they are brave soldiers that have courage to protect this land.

With utmost respect, and sincere apology, I end my letter.

Best Regards, Jack Mason."

Yeah right, a whole letter of bullshit alright! I crumpled the letter, angrily gritting my teeth, and slowly cried out drops of tears.

That letter arrived as soon as I finished enrolling at the Military training, on my way to the Spirit H School. I had to postpone my trip, to recover.

In the end, I left my apartment and moved to the capital, for my enrollment onto the school. I moved to the dorms of the school, provided only to those who prepared early.

And of course, I am one of those that reserved it early. Arriving around a week before the next semester starts, I was already there for registration.

I doesn't have many clothes whatsoever, but my military uniform, army knife and a regular G-18 with one remaining magazine was the only thing that I prioritized the most.

Considering that the school uniform were provided seperately, everything was on order for me.

Until the first day of school arrived...

The night before the school starts, a sudden terrorists attack appears and somehow managed to breach through the security of the school.

I was surprised too, but managed to escape the dorms when the terrorist took hostage of nearly a quarter of the dorms' dweller.

The sudden attack leads to another postponing of the school year. Since the terrorists brought the hostages onto an empty car parking building around 17 kilometres away from the school.

The military units that were deployed for the rescue mission made a move around the week after.

Only to get destroyed and overwhelmed by the terrorists force...

An entire squad of nearly 50 people were wiped out within one night of a battle. Not one of them remains alive, yet, the terrorists force remains idle and seem to only defends their position.

"Fight when you can, save what you are able to and protect that you could." - My father's quote that lingers around my mind, as I prepared to fight the terrorists army on my own.

I know the difference in strength, between our spirits, abilities and armory. All I had was a Glock-18 automatic handgun, while the terrorists force was fully armed with assault rifles and explosives.

Not to mention, our spirits difference might be big. Spirits were divided into dozens of ranks:

[Newbie: 1-9 Star]

[Rookie: 1-9 Star]

[Amateur: 1-9 Star]

[Proffesional: 1-9 Star]

[Star Student (Special authorization): 1-11 Star]

[Commoner: 1-10 Star]

[Higher Commoner: 1-5 Star]

[Expert: 1-8 Star]

[Fighter: 1-10 Star]

[Higher Fighter: 1-3 Star]

[Activist/Strategist: 1-7 Star]

[Soldiers: 1-9 Star]

[Major: 1-8 Star]

[Captain: 1-8 Star]

[Knight: 1-9 Star]

[Legion Knight (Trouble Students): 1-9 Star]

[Leader(For Knight and Legion Knight) 1-8 Star]

[Elite Knight: 1-17 Star (Could rank up randomly)]

[Emperor: 1-10 Star]

[Monarch: 1-10 Star]

[Commander: 1-11 Star]

[General: 1-27 Star]

[King: 1-19 Star]

[Battle God: 1-Infinite]

The last time I checked my rank is that I only reached Proffesional, which is before I end my enrollment. If I estimate the terrorists force's, I could say, they have the strength of Fighter. Each one of them possess the rank of Fighter.

That is just an estimation, and I was also trained to move in the dark. I scouted the area, while preparing myself before the upcoming battle. With a black bandana, accompanied by my military 'ghost' uniform, I snuck to reach the ground floor of the parking building.

Through my senses, and the vision of the enemies' position, I counted only two on the ground floor. Both wearing high-caliber bulletproof vest and carbon fiber helmet. Armed with a karambit, a Desert Eagle and AK-47.

And yet, I was totally at disadvantage before I even fight. Thanks to the military knowledge, I grabbed an oil canister, that acts as a silencer for my Glock-18.

The remnants of the dead soldiers was terrifying, I was a bit affected, seeing how their bodies were lying around the road and the smell of dead bodies enters my nose.

For a brief while, I took my breathe and calm myself down.

You got this Ray Harc, you might fail but that is only a possibility. You might die but that's also a possibility.

Right now, it is a bet.

*ka-click*

I rushed forward, running along the dark front way of the parking building. The lights on the road was already destroyed, and what is left is only the moonlight that shallowly helps my vision.

Before I begun this mission, I managed to check out the dead body's remnants and weapons. Though, all I get was another magazine for my handgun and a pretty ruined helmet.

On the other side-

"Sir, the helmet belonging to Colonel Gavin sent a signal of a lifeforce!"

"WHAT?!" A man, in a military uniform with his badge named 'Alexander' immediately rushed to the person currently locating the position of the helmet.

"According to this movement, it is the physical of a 17 years old male," Explained the researcher, his words was accompanied with his computer showing the results. With nearly every inch of the body that wore the helmet was showing up.

"ID: 225968312

Codename: 'Soul'

Pvt. Ray Harc

Military Intelligence Academy."

"This boy... A private?! Not to mention, at his age!-"

"Sir, his spirit flow matched that... Only of Proffesional.." The researcher murmured, with his eyes opened wide upon seeing Ray's results of Spirits.

Alexander pulled a comms tools from the table, and spoke out, "Soul! Soul! Do you copy?!"

Returning to Ray's side-

"Soul! Soul! Do you copy?!" screamed a voice from the helmet. It reaches both of my ears, and I know it was calling the codename given to me by the Academy.

"This is Alpha Two-One, Commander of Platoon 96, do you copy?!" explained the voice, I took a stop, and knelt down before continuing my move. "Copy that, Alpha Two-One. Private Ray Harc, waiting for your reply, over."

"Be advised, we're sending in units to your location within 5 minutes, over," stated Alpha, the Commander. I was a bit pissed, knowing that it took them a goddamn long to send more troops. "Negative, I will engage immediately, over."

"Listen here, private! I'm the one at commands, you shall not engage unless I allow you to!"

"Negative, I'm not your soldier. Private Ray Harc 'Soul', over and out."

I quickly moved out, proceeding to engage the enemies alone without hesitation. Somehow, after I enunciate 'out,' the helmet stopped receiving the call.

Two enemies, around 15 meters away from each other. Silent and dark, let's do this.
