Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: The Book

『Congratulations you got 「The Nameless Book Of Spells」!!』

「Oh~ You got a grimoire, What's there to be upset about?」

Finn stared at the plain looking book, The Nameless Book of Spells appears to be a thick book with many pages. The distinct appearance of the book looks very plain — to be honest: It doesn't look strong either.

The other Grimoire I saw back at the market looks flashy enough to be called a powerful book. Well — the problem I'm currently facing is not the appearance of the book itself.

I'm not a magic caster, and I don't have prior knowledge about magic either.

A Magic Caster is the generic term used to describe those with a profession in magic , Every magic caster possesses the ability to use the magic of a certain type. They can change the results of the battlefield in their favor depending on their skills and power level. Magic casters, especially arcaners from the World, had weaker bodies than the likes of warriors. Instead of training one's body like a warrior, they spend all the time and effort on learning magic. Magic casters, who could fight on par with warriors were nonexistent and rather prefer to fight from a distance.

Unfortunately, using magic required intense focus, during which the body could not move. The movement would disrupt one's sense of balance and make concentration difficult for the magic caster. This was the reason why magic casters always stood still to cast their spells. Despite the shortcoming, magic casters like "Joy" one of the 2nd ranking Shikari in Obsidian rank could use 'Fly' to maintain a distance without disrupting their concentration, and thus fight a mobile battle.

The weakness among magic casters is that they are limited by the said amount of MP. Moreover, whenever they tried to cast spells, magic casters are left in the state of vulnerability where outside interference such as the likelihood of getting attacked by an enemy can disrupt their spellcasting from ever being completed. However, it is a different story if the magic caster in question was able to cast a silent spell successfully without reciting necessary incantations for it.

Among the magic casters, those that call upon god's miracles are the clerics and priests placed heavy emphasis on their faith stat. Magicians comprised of wizards and secret arts users are called Arcaners who placed a priority on their magic power stat. While the talismancers and shamans tend to put heavy emphasis on mainly their mental strength stat. Lastly were those that happened to place heavy emphasis on other stats besides the one's mention.

Each of the four categories of magic consisted of spells that are divided up to ten tiers, with an additional super-tier which surpassed all the others on top of it. The total number of spells available was well over 6000. Additionally, each seven levels in Magic Caster Classes allows the user to rise to a new tier, ranging from the order of 1st tier to 10th tier.

0th Tier: For people possessing very little talent/ability. The magic that inexperienced people who have yet to learn/master the first Tier are said to be at this level-similar to apprentices and students. It is regarded the same as magic tricks or sleight of hand sort of things, and certainly even if they can be used one will not be called a magic caster. It is the tier of magic that can meet the needs for simple tasks in life.

1st Tier (Level 1-7): The most common level of magic. Many practical magic are included in this tier. Anyone can use 1st-tier magic by training, though it takes too much time and effort for those without talent. Those capable of performing this tier can earn proper pay as a kind of special worker.

2nd Tier : These are spells for those who have talent, numbering 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 10,000. It is the common goal of normal magic casters. Those who achieve this tier can earn a good income and reputation.

3rd Tier : Only the brightest achieve this tier. 3rd tier magic casters are quite rare and they were considered to be most likely an obsidian-rank Adventurer at the very least.

4th Tier : The highest tier that Swenus Vermillion most skilled acolytes have managed to reach under his guidance.

5th Tier : A tier that very few have reached, among them the Thirteen Heroes, who are considered the pinnacle of mankind.

6th Tier : The highest tier magic for very few and capable inhabitants of the World that can so far achieve in reaching. It is said there are currently four humanoid magic casters who could cast 6th tier spells in the entire continent, including Swenus Vermillion himself.

7th Tier : Spells that only exist in legends. Although humans are unable to use it, the Slane Theocracy's magic casters can via large-scale magic rites or ceremonies. However, these are very dangerous to perform and usually end up with disastrous consequences. It seems the Thirteen Heroes are capable of using 7th tier spells, and a few individuals outside the group are rumored to use one.

8th Tier : In the World, these spells are considered to be within the Mythical Realm. Night Liches have the capacity of learning the 8th tier, there is a way to gain access to using the 8th tier and that is by conducting a large ritual. In the center of such a ritual is a human who can use the 5th tier and could improve it. It is also necessary for a large number of those present with that person at the center of it all to use the 3rd tier. Even with this, it can only be improved up to two tiers, and it is believed that there is some form of device involved. Normally, a country like the Theocracy is needed to support this.

9th Tier : The only record for now is when the catastrophe Hell's gate appeared, a Magic user who was able to use the skill, Endless Death and True Death.

10th Tier : The existence of 10th-Tier magic was proven by the selected few individuals like Joy know about it.

11th Tier : Coined by the Theocracy's Cardinals, it is the unofficial rank of Super-Tier Magic or otherwise known as magic of the gods. By Administrators standard, it is simply called Super-Tier Magic, but in the World, there are few individuals who refer it as such to be of the 11th tier. It is labeled as the highest form of magic above all other tiers that had been used between 500 to 200 years ago before the present setting of the creation.

Well, looking up again on my stats. I'm not fit using magic.

" Transfer all skill points into MP."

『 Understood, Transferring remaining '10' points into 'Magical Abilities'... 』

I hope this is enough to use spells. Let's open the book and scan some spells that I can use.

Finn opened the book and flipped a random page to read. Let's see here....

"Eh..?"

Finn was dumfounded— 'So many spells' Finn murmured. It was indeed a lot of them, Every page contains many jibberish words that can't be found in a encyclopedia.

What's more suprising is some of the spells doesn't even have context in it — This is scary, too scary.

Some spells have scary names like, Acid Rain; or Death parade — If this went into the wrong hands, It's gonna be the end of the world.

I should have went into the first page, maybe it has instructions and table of contents like a normal book.

*Flip*

Ownership by :

"Oi oi oi.."

The first page only contain the sentence "Ownership:"

What kind of book is this?! — Is this what a magic book looks like when your supposed to read it.

I doesn't even have instructions or a table of content! — Is this the book whose supposedly gonna save me from death?

Let's try a few commands to see if something works.

" Open Grimoire! "

"Activate Book!!"

" Death parade unleash!!"

" Open Sesame!!"

" I command you to use the skill Fireball!"

'Tring."

「Finn.. May I ask? Why are you talking like that...」

Finn face turned beet red — I forgot about her watching over me.

"Don't mind me, Just trying to figure out how this god damn book works!!"

「Maybe try writing your name first? — in the ownership section? 」

I haven't thought about that, But how can I write it — Is it by voice command.

" I'm your Owner! Activate a spell...."

" Make me your owner.. "

I'm losing my mind, Nothing ain't working?! Why is there no instructions on how to use this book!

" Ownership by me!"

「Try putting a name or a title?」

"Hmm — A name."

「Yes, But!— don't use your original name, try thinking for a cool name like, Phantom or the Tyrant no no, Overseer, Yes use Oversee-」

『 Tranquil Mind is Activated..』

"Ownership by Stygimanichagama."

The silence lasted for about a minute.

「Oi, What kind of name is that.」

"Er.. I don't know."

A faint light illuminated the front page of the book, Finn gazed at the word Ownership and saw a little ember of smoke marking the latter end of the word Ownership.
