Chapter 9 - Chapter 8— Cheapskates with troublemakers

Eniola sat on her bed surrounded by heaps of clothes, half of which she had no business been with in school. The hostel was quiet apart from the frequent ruffling sound of the Clothes Eniola kept on throwing on the bed.

Were could it be?

She scratched her head. It needed washing but that was not her immediate concern.

Her toe hit the cupboard when she wasn't looking. She winced from the pain that shot up through her feet. She pushed the cupboard out of the way.

She needed to open her wardrobe but it was up and her hand couldn't reach. she looked for her chair and saw that a heap of clothes were already there.

She hissed in anger and dragged the cupboard to the wardrobe. She climbed up to open the wardrobe, brought out another bag of clothes from the small wardrobe the school assigned to her.

she threw it on her bed.

Where were are roommates?

The afternoon lectures should have been over like thirty minutes ago.

What was keeping them sef?

She was going to question every single one them thoroughly when they came back.

She heard the sounds of footsteps.

Good, they were back.

Helen's voice reached her.

she was asking about the inter house sport. Abigail answered.

Abigail was the sport prefect girl.

She hissed. Not her roommates.

She continued her search, digging into another bag she had brought down.

Abigail, Helen and Olanna pushed the door and came in.

She already knew it was them so she didn't bother to raise her head up.

Helen sat on the heap of clothes on the bed.

Fat fool, Eniola thought.

"Please, stand up from my clothes, Helen" she said with borrowed patience."

"Where will I seat down then, your chair has clothes on them."

Helen stood up from the bed and went to the chair. She packed the clothes on the chair to the bed and sat on the chair.

She couldn't decide if Helen was just stupid or daft.

She would deal with Helen later, she needed to find it.

Helen laughed, her whole body shaking. "Eniola, are you looking for where you buried your golden goose?"

Eniola was frustrated already and now she was angry too thanks to Helen. "Please, please, Helen, take your trouble to your side, I'm not in the mood"

Helen hissed in anger. "was I not just joking? What's wrong with you. Can't some play with you?"

"No oh, someone cannot joke with me. If you are here to joke please carry your joke and get out of here"

This Helen girl was exasperating.

"Come and get me out Eniola, come now"

Eniola stared at Helen for a long time. Helen was far heavier than her, there was no way she could push her out.

Eniola went back to searching her bag. She would deal with Helen another day.

When both Abigail and Olanna realized there would be no fight. They dragged a chair from her roommates corner of the room and sat down near her bed.

"What are you looking for?" Abigail asked.

"You know that my diamond crusted bag?"

She nodded. "Yes"

"I can't find it"

"Where did you keep it"

"I don't know, that's why I am going through all my things" she said in frustration.

"Since you are so rich, just buy another one na."

This Helen was so stupid.

"It's true, just buy another one na" Olanna agreed.

"Do you know how much that bag cost?"

"How much?"

" $1000" she said with a huff."

"Oh, wow, it is that costly. I didn't know"

"of course, it is costly, all my things are. Do you think I will ever carry a cheap thing?"

She actually didn't know how much the bag truly cost. She had taken the bag from her aunt's room. She, her mother and her extended family members were visiting the woman because she was sick. Eniola had seen the bag and taken it when no one was looking.

"$1000?" Helen scoffed. "How much is $1000 that you are complaining?"

Abigail frowned. "$1000 is plenty money. What are you saying, Helen?" She turned to Eniola and said. "when was the last time you saw the bag?"

"On Saturday, I took it with me when I went to your house with you to make my hair. Remember you saw it with me?"

" yes" Abigail agreed

Eniola concentrated. She was trying to remember. "I was with it when we came back to school. I dropped it on my bed then I went to use the toilet. When I came back to the room, it was still on my bed. I know before I left for the toilet, I was planning to lock it up in my wardrobe, I can't remember if I actually did before I left to answer aunty Chinyere"

"Then it should be somewhere around here. Let's look for it." She had a determined look on her face. "If it is here we will find it."

Abigail and Olanna began to look for the bag.

Abigail looked up to see Helen hadn't moved an inch from the chair. she looked disinterested watching the search going on.

"Won't you come and join us Helen?" Abigail asked.

"I don't know where she kept the bag?"

"That why we are looking for it. If you know you are not going to help, you can leave." Eniola retorted.

Helen stood up from her chair annoyed that she had been asked to join the search. But she didn't leave, she joined in looking for the bag.

"Have you asked your roommates?" Abigail asked.

"No, but I will ask them when they come"

Helen muttered something under her breath. Eniola was tempted to tell her to get out but she needed all the help she could get.

Thirty minutes later when her roommates came in after thoroughly questioning them, each of them had denied taking the bag even with threats of punishments.

She sighed. She actually liked the bag now it was stolen.
