Kieran's POV
"What the hell?" I heard Cara say next to me.
"Move back, behind here. Don't let it see us." Elodie whispered, dragging my arm, and forcing the four of us to crouch behind a rock.
"We haven't seen anyone around here in years, so who's boat is that and why are they here?" I sighed.
Just as the words left my mouth, there was an almighty thud as a huge wave smashed against the rocks in front of us. Shielding myself from the salty haze, I slipped my head up to peek at the ship only to notice that it'd been completely overturned. If anyone had been alive on the ship, they surely couldn't have been after.
"Hurry," Luke pushed. "We need to see if anyone on there is still alive."
And before anyone could object, he was running down the side of the rocks and peering over the smaller ledge where the ship was beginning to sink.
Without a word of warning, he turned to look at us before diving in.
Elodie's POV
"Luke, shit!" I shouted, running down the cliff myself.
With my history of water, I really should've considered my next decision a little further. But like the other two incidents, I didn't. I dived in headfirst after him, shutting my mouth and trying to ignore the salty sting in my eyes. My vision clouded over by the musty water. I heard Kieran's voice screaming after me as I sunk deeper.
That was when the shapes started to appear, the curved edge of a ship. Pushing my sore lungs further; I grabbed onto a piece of wood sticking out and clung on, searching for familiar surroundings.
Almost out of nowhere, Luke appeared. Kicking upwards and clutching the unconscious body of a woman with auburn hair flaying everywhere.
I followed him up, blowing bubbles to conserve as much oxygen as I possibly could, starting to feel faint. But with one last kick, the both of us appeared at the surface. Gasping for breath, and exhausted but both conscious and well.
Lucas, along with the help of Cara, dragged the woman onto the rocks and began CPR without a second of hesitation.
Kieran grabbed my hand and pulled me up, dragging me into his chest.
"Jesus Christ, Elodie." He whispered.
"Help me." Luke panted. "Cara, give her mouth to mouth. I can't find a pulse."
We stared in fear, silently praying we could help this unknown woman.
Luke shook off his hands before going again, thudding against her chest. He winced as we heard a crack, most definitely being her ribs breaking but continued with a pained expression on his face.
Suddenly, emitting a loud sound of relief from all of us, the woman flung upwards spluttering and coughing violently. Cara moved behind her and patted her back, Luke her helping to ease her head onto Cara's lap.
"Where am I? Where's Tess?"
I knelt beside her. "The ship you were on sunk, we managed to get you out but there was nobody else there. I'm so sorry."
She brought a shaky hand up to her mouth and let out a sob. "My fiancée was on that ship with me, she's down there. You must go get her. Please." She spat out, trying to sit up.
"I'm sorry." Cara whispered, holding her arm down. "She's gone. You need to rest."
The girl turned to look at Cara's sullen face and nodded, sobbing again.
"What's your name, beautiful?"
"Pippa, James."
"Where are you from? What happened to you?"
She let out another sob and curled into her knees. With that, Cara didn't push any further and stood up to check Luke and I were okay.
"I'm fine, didn't pass out this time. Give her some time and then we can try get her back to camp?" I whispered.
Cara nodded before placing her towel down on the ground for the woman to temporarily use as a cushion.
Arya's POV
When I woke up, I felt more refreshed than I had in weeks. Maybe Bryony was right in the fact that I just needed sleep.
I sat up and brushed my hair out of my face, trying to reach over to grab my hairbrush but finding that my exhausted limbs weren't moving. I sighed and stretched out, reaching over to my hairbrush with mock annoyance as my arms simply weren't long enough. I shut my eyes for a second; in an effort to wake myself up and sighed.
But as I opened them, something happened that knocked all the air out of my lungs.
My hairbrush had sent itself off the cabinet and straight into my hand. By my command.
I finally understood how to control my abilities. I'd been pushing myself and forcing myself through both exhaustion and pain when really the only thing I needed to do was relax. I needed to close my eyes and go somewhere of comfort.
And overall, trust myself.
I smiled, closing my eyes, and pushing my hairbrush back onto the desk. With only the force of my hand.
I tried to stay calm, taking in deep breaths.
Then gave up.
"BRYONY," I screamed. "Look what I can do!"
