"Liking is the uncontrollable desire to be close, to possess, and to be willing to give. For example, when you see a piece of clothing that looks nice, you want to spend money to buy it, making it yours. That's the simplest form of liking."
Outside, the cold wind howled, carrying snowflakes that burrowed into the collars and cuffs.
The two of them walked down the stairs, hunching their sleeves as they strolled along the paths of the complex, chatting casually.
"What if you can't afford it?"
"If you can't afford it, you work hard to earn money, so you can afford it. This effort is also a form of giving."
"In the matter of liking, possession and giving are equivalent. It's not liking if you only want to possess without the willingness to give. If, after all your efforts, you still can't afford it, you can't just steal or rob. That only satisfies yourself without considering whether you might dirty or damage it in the process."
