Victor stands in front of the bakery door and Marie stumbles out. Marie was like a sibling to him and they spent most of their days together. She had brown hair that glistened gold in the sunlight. Her eyes were a simple blue that were pure and innocent. In a lot of ways, she was different from Victor. Victor was very smart and had eye-catching white hair. His eyes were a grey that were void of emotion and told many stories of a determined life. His serious face looks down at his bright friend and she brightly smiles up at him. Today was the day that would decide their futures. While Marie knew she wanted to become a baker, Victor was totally undecided. He figured he would take the easy way out and become a knight like most of the boys in the kingdom. The brick streets were filled with life, people bustled talking merrily about trivial things. Some waved and said hello to the pair while others continued to talk or work. They arrived at the school building and went in to take a seat. The building was small reflecting the size of their village. The students there ranged in ages. The younger ones smiled and threw things at each other while the older ones spoke amongst themselves. The teacher walks in and quiets the class. Today was very important, it was the day that the graduates' careers would be decided. Victor and Marie were among them. There were two other people their age, both had family businesses to inherit. Victor had no family business to inherit and no family. He didn't feel like he was alone in the world as Marie's family was very kind to him. However, Victor knew his mother was alive and he was not the slightest bit determined to find her. He was okay with not having a family and he didn't want one in the future. Many people worried endlessly about the future, but for some reason, Victor was okay without a plan. He was smart, athletic, and handsome. Marie smiled happily as she awaited her title of a baker. He sat there waiting for something to happen, maybe he was destined to be something great, maybe he was destined to carry bodies. If one did not know what to do, they would place their hand on a magic ball and it would tell them the career they were destined for. Most of the time people got the career they wanted so they didn't have to waste time on those with a dream. Even if they did get something they didn't want, they would ignore it anyway. The ball was like a ticket. It gave a free pass to those who deserved it. Those who did nothing and expected to get something got nothing. Victor was the type who did everything and expected nothing.
