Chapter 9 - Chapter 14: Motivation

"Perhaps try finding someone in this hospital that you can somewhat kiss. Someone that's close by and you can easily manipulate. How about that candy striper? Seems like she's a good first victim for you. She's here already so all you have to do is pretend that you fainted or something and fell out of the bed and have her carry you and as she's carrying you, kiss her and then boom problem solved." He suggested, quickly taking the wind to my sails for a moment.

"Wha? Really? Are you sure that I can even take the soul of that candy striper? I mean didn't you see how she acted?" I looked at the demon, expressing my doubts about his plan but his resolve was unbreakable.

"Eh. Don't go assuming people's worth just because of how they express themselves." He snickered, hiding his mouth with the palm of his hands. "Everyone wears masks, some better than others. It's sorta like that social media thing, you humans check out and everything."

"Hmmm? I suppose you're right. Though I doubt that her life is somewhat falling apart with how she presents herself. I mean surely she should be with a loving family since-"

I paused for being interrupted by the lustful demon's forced grunt. Catching me off guard so that he can make way to talk over me. "As I said, people often hide what they truly feel around others. It's sorta human nature."

"Ugh. I was talking you airheaded buffoon!" I fumed at him, mad that he talked over me. "Anyways, you're right. People do hide what they truly feel but I doubt that carefree girl has any major problems in her life so we should find another target for me to get the soul of." I shook my head, completely disagreeing with the idea but he had a different thing on his mind.

"How about I give you a little motivation!" He clapped his hands giddily. Giving me a sinister smirk. Inside of me, I felt a sense of fear, making my feet and my heart tremble. Oh boy. This doesn't look good...

The demon proceeded to flick his fingers once again, doing a little dance as he violently shook his hands. "Just what on earth is he doing?" I said to myself, as I continued to watch him carefully, slowly, as he was rubbing his hands together, some sort of white light illuminated the palm of his hands, as the light started to disappear, it begins to form some sort of object. I, first see glass forming and then a frame of it, and then as it was ending, sand appeared into it. Once he was done, he gives me a front view of the item he made.

"Um? Why did you make an hourglass exactly?" I asked him, carefully observing the hourglass. The frame and the handle were all made of wood which I assume is oak, painted with some sort of white paint while inside the hourglass is black sand that's slowly falling down on the bottom. Each time it hits, insinuates the time flying by quickly.

"This hourglass before you will pressure you to finish your goals quickly. It has three days worth of sand that's going to fall down to the bottom. So that means you'll have three days total to find someone that you can steal the soul of. If you don't find someone then I might have to go back to the pendant that I was brought out from." He explains to me, making me smirk and give him a snarky remark.

"Wouldn't it be good that you return back to the pendant? Less noise when you're not around here." I slyly told him to leave. Making him smile nonchalantly.

"No can do buttercup. The reason why I'll return to the pendant is that I'll run out of souls to draw power from. The only reason I was spawned here, to begin with, is because of your negative emotions however since you were given hope. They depleted to the point that I won't be able to sustain a physical form" He explains to me, making me roll my eyes.

"So who cares if you don't maintain a physical form? I don't even want you here anyway. About time, I get some peace and quiet from your annoying ass mouth." I scoffed him off.

"Vulgar as always aren't you? You're the one that's supposed to care, you idiot." He snickered, "If I'm back in the pendant, you can't exactly use the power I gave you. Meaning you can't take souls and you'll probably just end up like some pathetic human trash dying without any sort of meaning."

"Really?! Who made up with that dumb concept.. Geez. So meaning the whole time I'll be getting souls, I'll have to listen to your annoying ass gloat and keep pretending to be some sort of bigshot?!" My eyes widen, making me take a deep breath.

I don't think I can spend the whole eternity trying to deal with his obnoxious attempts in looking cool when he looks like an idiot while doing it. Oh boy... now I'm starting to reconsider this life. I think I'd be better off dead instead of trying my luck on this.

"Wow? I'm surprised you didn't lash out when I insulted you. I was expecting you to go like "I'M GOING TO RIP YOUR PATHETIC LIMBS OFF YOU ANNOYING DEMON! I'LL INCINERATE THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF YOU, YOU PATHETIC WASTE OF SPACE." He says, trying to mimic my voice before clearing his throat.

"Sadly, the idea of staying with you got on my skin more than the fact you insulted me plus I got used to it by now especially since you're rather vexatious." He sneered at me. "Anyways, what's it going to be then princess? You either stay here and end up dying without a reason, fully regretting your worthless life or you try your luck to survive by taking a few souls. It's your decision really. So what do you choose?"
