"Lucy!"
She turned around to the speaker of her name. She smiled instantly seeing Jess. "Hey, is that a smile on your face?" He jogged up to her and chuckled.
"I could ask you the same question, Mariano." She looked at his almost excited looking face. "You have news don't you? Good news." She guessed.
Jess smirked and looked at her holding up tickets. Upon closer examination she saw they were prom tickets. She felt a flicker of excitement light in her chest, "Jess??"
"I know." He smiled.
"I don't know what to say." She chuckled and held her head exasperated. Was he really asking her to prom? She could still go even if she weren't in school. As long as Jess was clinging onto the place. "This is such as surprise." She exhaled.
"Oh come on it's not that big of a deal," he said looking over the tickets himself, "Rory really wanted to go-I mean she didn't say she did, but I could see she wanted to." He rambled.
Lucy's face fell upon realization. She quickly masked her emotion before he could make eye contact again, "Of course she would," she beamed, "Every little girl dreams of going to prom.."
He pretended to gag quickly, "Don't say it like that."
"Why not?"
"Makes me sound like I'm a good boyfriend." He smirked. Lucy looked down briefly, "I wouldn't know." She said before clearing her throat. "Well. I got get going." She said readjusting her bag on her shoulder.
"Where you off too?" He asked.
"Where do you think?" She gave him the look. Jess caught on, "Ah, therapy." Lucy snapped her fingers and nodded, "Bingo."
"Well, I would drive you, but I gotta get back to class before they even know I'm missing-"
"Jess Mariano!" She hit his arm before he could evade her "What in the hell have you been doing all day??"
He chuckled trying to avoid anymore of her punches, "Nothing!" He smiled "I had to get a suit!"
"Go to class!" She hit him again before shaking her head and trying not to smile. "You have to actually attend school to go to prom!" She called after him as he hurried back to school. He turned to give a quick wave before back around.
"Hey! You going to the party that's later tonight??" He called as he hurried backwards.
She looked back at him, "Maybe! Only for Lane!" She called back. Lucy rolled her eyes and walked to therapy.
_____
Lucy hurried up to the door and pulled her shirt down uncomfortably. This is what I get for trying something new, she thought as she readjust the tube top. She was really late to the party, but she thought that it wouldn't matter judging by how late and how loud it was. Almost as if the party didn't really die.
She knocked on the door waiting outside in the cold.
What was she thinking? It's too loud for people to hear. She banged on the door. After waiting a few more minutes she face palmed herself. " It's a party, you don't knock, you just come in." She muttered to herself.
She walked into the party, immediately greeted with crowds of people and the waft of crappy beer. She sighed and watched everyone in the part unfurl and hoping to find anyone familiar. She saw Dean on the stair well, talking with some of his friends. She immediately followed after, "Dean!" She called himself
He spun around to the sound of his name before looking at Lucy's whole physique.
"Wow. That's some outfit." He chuckled.
Elizabeth bit her lip embarrassed immediately "too much?" She asked. He chuckled, "Just a bit."
She rubbed her arm "Have you seen Rory around at all? Or Lane?"
"Or Jess?" He finished for as his face slightly soured. Lucy looked down briefly before sighing, "You were a really good boyfriend To her Dean... Maybe a little too good." She said and pat his shoulder. Which was an exaggerated gesture seeing as this kid was six foot something.
He sighed and looked down "I saw Lane in the kitchen." He gestured slightly. Lucy nodded before waving "I'll talk to you later." She promised. He just waved her off and left his spot.
Lucy weaved her way through the crowd before biting her lip. She had her eyes scanning every inch of the kitchen and found Lane on the phone while Rory was trying desperately to get her off of it. She chuckled and went up to them. "Patience Rory, you'll get your turn on the telly." She joked.
Rory looked back at her in slight relief, as if she needed rescuing right now. "Lanes on the phone with her mom." She whispered panicked. Before Lucy could even budge to help Lane had hung up the phone. "Oh god.." lane said before going to vomit.
"What a fun night this will be." Lucy said with a hint of sarcasm in her voice as she pat Lanes back.
______
Lucy sighed boredly. This party was going on for way too long. And her outfit was starting to get on her nerves. Having to readjust 'the girls' every two seconds, having to check to make sure her undies weren't peaking out of her skirt. It was all so stupid.
Not to mention nothing interesting was happening.
CRASH!
"Yo! Take it outside!"
"Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!"
"Hey break it up!"
Lucy went to see what was going on but the horde of people crowding around the scene made it impossible for her to even get a peak.
She gave up and decided to take this as her cue to be an abnormal teenager and stay out of it.
It didn't take long for the fight to be over. She looked around and sighed finally able to go outside when the crowd disperse and she saw the sirens. She frowned seeing Rory yelling at both Jess and Dean. She paused.
Jess ran off into the night. She wanted to run after but that probably wouldn't look good. She sighed and watched him run off.
Dean sighed and wiped his bloody lip stalking off and running into Lucy. "Lucy-I-"
"Busted lip brother?" She said flatly.
He sighed and shook his head "Please dont.." he shook his head. "I've had a few drinks-I'm not myself right now okay?" He looked her over.
Lucy rolled her eyes and rubbed her head, "okay alright, just-just go sober up or something-I'll stay and clean."
"-Can you come with me?" He asked slightly desperate sounding.
She looked at the tall senior and thought for a moment before nodding. "Alright. I'll take you home, but won't your parents ground you?"
"They're out of town." He sighed, "They get back tomorrow with my sister from a choir concert.."
Lucy looked back at the wreckage they both caused and nodded gently. "Well, you can reap the consequences tomorrow morning, yeah?" She said leading him home by his arm.
It was an awkward walk, probably one of the worst ones she's ever had. When they finally turned up at his house, Lucy didn't let go until he was upstairs safe in his room. She got him in drunk sleep position, so he didn't choke on any upcoming vomit. She was about ready to let go of him when she felt his hand grab her wrist and pull her down to him.
"Ha ha, very funny Forrester. Now let me go." She said.
He held onto her still.
"Dean let go." She said a bit more persistent. Dean held onto her. He moved her so he was on top of her.
"That outfit is still a bit much." He slurred and held her arms down. Lucy managed to stay calm throughout this, not wanting to give Dean any alarm or reason to hold her tighter. She breathed out steadily, "Dean. You're drunk. You need to let go of me now, you're not thinking straight."
"Yeah? How's that?"
"I get it. You made the worst drink concoction ever, tequila and a broken heart. I know cause I'm still a little tipsy myself..." She sighed, "I know you still have feelings for Rory, but you have to move on-"
"Is that what you're doing with Jess? Moving on?" He said angry. Lucy stayed silent. "You know what I think?" He said his speech still heavily slurred but still cognizant of thought. "I think, that you went to that party for him. And that you wore this outfit for him. Barely an outfit." He looked down at her shirt his eyes trailing down it, "Is that what you wanted.. ? His hands all over you? You think an outfit like this would grab his attention?"
At this point Lucy was dead silent. She felt her heart hurt. Not because he was making those accusations but because they were true. She wanted to make Jess jealous. Perhaps if she showed him what he was missing than they could somehow come to a conversation about them being, well, a them. She looked down briefly.
"It worked-just not on Jess." He moves his hand up her thigh. Lucy immediately tried kicking him but he stopped her leg.
"Face it Lucy. It's perfect. We're bonded by people we can't have."
"Dean I get it.. just..." she looked down feeling like she was coming to a decision. She looked down briefly. Her mind was made up too quickly due to the alcohol as she let Deans hands wander.
"It'll be over soon.."
