Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

Carly couldn't help but smile as she laid down on the comfortable bed with puffy white pillows all around her. She felt like she was sleeping on a cloud. She closed her eyes for a while, embracing the feeling. Leo had booked a room for them in the hotel. It might not be a luxury suite, but the place looked extravagant.

"Are you serious right now?" Leo asked as he came over to the bed and looked at Carly.

Carly opened her eyes and saw Leo staring right at her from where he stood. Carly ignored him and closed her eyes again.

"What is it now, Leo?" she asked.

"You can't be taking up the whole bed without me."

Carly opened her eyes again. "What? You want me to scoot over? No way."

Leo smiled. "Okay, then, if you can't, I'll have to be on top of you."

Before Carly could say anything, Leo came and straddled over her waist on the bed. Carly looked up at him as he looked down at her.

"You know, I was going to scoot over," she said with a smile.

"It looked like you weren't going to."

"So, we are finally here," said Carly with her eyes rolling around. "What do you want to do next?"

"What do you think?" Leo asked with a smirk on his face. "You do know why we are here."

Carly giggled as she stretched out her arms towards Leo's face, cupping his cheeks. "What if I don't?" she asked.

"Should I remind you?" Leo asked with a smirk on his face as he held her hands on his cheeks. He took them all together in his hands and placed them on his chest.

Carly gave him a smile. "Yes, please."

Leo placed both of his hands on the bed close to Carly's head as he leaned in closer, drawing his face closer to hers. Right when he was about to kiss her, his phone rang.

"Dang it," he muttered to himself. His phone was just on top of the small drawer where the lamp stood next to the bed.

"I thought you put that phone on silent," said Carly.

"I thought I did too."

Leo straightened himself up and reached out for the phone. He rolled his eyes when he saw who was calling.

"What is it?" Carly asked as she continued to look up at him.

"Eric's calling," said Leo.

"Do you think you should pick it up?"

"I'll call him later."

Leo cut the call, put the phone on silent and put the phone back on the drawer.

"So where were we?" Leo asked as he looked down at Carly.

Before they could continue, Carly's phone also started ringing.

"Looks like someone also forgot to put their phone on silent too," said Leo as he smirked at Carly.

"Get off me, Leo," said Carly, feeling a little irritated with him. Leo moved aside, falling unto the bed on his back.

Her phone was in her purse that she carried and that was laying on the white hotel couch next to the window. Immediately she retrieved her phone, she checked the caller ID. Angel was calling.

"Is it weird that these two are calling us?" Carly asked.

"They know we are together," said Leo as he leaned on his elbow, looking at Carly.

"What I don't get is why they are calling. Could it be an emergency?"

"Nah," Leo shook his head. "They probably just want to trouble us."

"Seriously? I doubt it. For both of them to call, it must be urgent."

The phone in Carly's hand soon stopped ringing. Carly shrugged her shoulders as she looked at it.

"I don't know whether to call her back or not," she said.

"Don't," said Leo as he got up from the bed and went round towards Carly. "This is the only time we get to be with each other."

"I know, but what if it's urgent?"

"Whatever it is, those two can handle it themselves. Come," Leo wrapped his arm around Carly's waist. "Let's lay on the bed, shall we?"

"Okay, let me just.....," before Carly could even finish her sentence. Her phone started ringing again. Angel was calling her for a second time.

With his free hand, Leo quickly took her phone away. Carly growled as Leo stared at the phone screen.

"We won't be disturbed by her," he said. "Not today at least."

Leo pressed the reject call button and quickly switched off Carly's phone. He threw the phone on the couch behind Carly.

"Let's not waste the time that we have, Carly," he said softly as he looked straight into Carly's eyes. "I really need you, you know?"

Carly gave him a corky smile, completely forgetting about Angel's call. "I know you do," she said as she bit her lower lip.

Leo leaned over Carly and kissed her neck. Carly felt tingles run down her spine and she gasped as Leo's lips softly touched her neck.

In a quick flash, Leo lifted Carly off her feet and the next thing she knew, she was on the bed with Leo on top of her, planting kisses on her everywhere.

"She isn't picking up my calls," said Angel as she stared at her phone.

"I bet they feel we are violating their privacy," said Eric as he turned to look at her then his eyes went back on the road.

"Does that mean we have to go there?"

"The way, I see it, Trina told me to warn them, but now that they aren't picking up our calls, we have no choice but to go there ourselves."

"Before Kim gets there."

"Where are we going?" Oliver asked.

Angel turned to look at Oliver who was seated at the backseat of the car. She put up a smile for him.

"We have to go and check up on Carly and Leo," she said.

"What's wrong? Are they okay?"

"They are fine. We just need to check up on them, that's all. Don't worry. Once we know what they are up to, we can go back to doing our fun stuff, okay?"

Oliver smiled. "Okay."

Angel went back to looking at Eric. "I think we need to be cautious," she said in a low whisper.

"With Oliver?" Eric asked.

"Not only him. We have to worry about Kim. I don't know why Trina called her when she knows her best friend isn't stable."

"Trina is the most unstable one," Eric said with a smirk on his face.

"And Kim? Let's face it, Eric. If she finds those two together, she will kill them." Angel blew out an air of frustration as she leaned back further in her seat. "How did all of this happen anyway?"

"This is the second time you're asking that question since we left the pizza parlour."

Angel sighed. "Sorry, I'm just so upset right now. I wish Trina never saw them."

"Well, everything all happened due to coincidence. She said she got curious when she saw that Leo wasn't alone."

"I wish she stayed out of it."

"When a lady suspects something, it's hard for her to stay out of it."

Angel turned to look at Eric with her eyebrow raised. Eric noticed her eyes on him and he took a glance at Angel and quickly went back to looking at the road. Her gazing eyes felt like needles piercing into his skin.

"Do you think Trina could still be around at the hotel?" Angel asked as her eyes looked out the window.

"I bet so. Why?"

"I don't know what she would think if she were to see me with you. According to her, she's only expecting you to be there to warn Leo."

"I can handle everything. You and Oliver can just stay in the car. If she asks, I will tell her I was hanging out with you two."

"Okay."

"Why do you say it like that?"

"Like what?"

"Like you don't believe that she will believe the truth?"

"I don't know. Something tells me that Trina likes you."

"She does," Eric smiled.

Angel rolled her eyes after seeing Eric smile. "Looks like you like her too."

"I used to. She's so annoying."

"Sounds to me like she's your type. I saw how Kim was dressed yesterday. And I bet Trina is like her too."

"You're right. They both come from rich families. But none of them are as pretty as you."

Angel raised her eyebrow at him again. "Are we talking about looks now or what?"

"Ummm, look we are here," said Eric, changing the topic as he turned round a corner down the road. He packed right next to a black Ford car in front of a cafe, opposite the hotel.

"This conversation isn't over," said Angel as Eric turned off the engine of the car.

"I know," he said, looking a little guilty. "That's Trina's car next to mine. Should I leave you two in here?"

"We can go in the cafe. I think Oliver and I need a little dessert after that pizza."

"Did you just say dessert?" Oliver asked sounding excited.

"Yep, dessert," said Angel as she looked at Oliver in the backseat.

"Okay!"

Angel unbuckled her seat belt and she addressed Eric, "tell me when you get there. I'll have my phone with me."

"Don't worry, I will," said Eric. "And if anything bad happens, I'll make sure to tell you as well."

"I hope not. Oh, and throw in your wallet, please. I realised I didn't carry my purse."

Eric quickly obliged to Angel's command as he removed his wallet from his back pocket and gave it to her.

"Thanks," said Angel as she opened the car door on her side. "Will see you later. Let's go, Oliver."

"See you, bro," said Oliver as he also unbuckled his seatbelt and made his way out.

"See you," said Eric as Oliver and Angel walked out of the car and they both closed their doors behind them. He watched the two enter the cafe.

Once they were in, Eric turned to look at the Ford beside his car through the window. He noticed Trina staring back at him in her car.

Eric unbuckled his seatbelt, removed the key out of the ignition and got out of the car.

Just as he stepped out of the car and locked it, Trina also did the same behind him.

"Hey, Eric," said Trina when she approached him.

"Hey, Trina," said Eric as he turned to look at her.

"Who is she?"

"Who?"

"The woman you were with who went into the cafe with Oliver."

"It happens to be the lady who got hit by Leo's car. You do remember that her late mother and my dad were friends, right?"

"Oh, yes. But did you've to bring her along with Oliver?"

"It's a weekend and we were having pizza when you called."

"Sorry if I ruined anything, especially for Oliver. But this was really an emergency."

"Ya, I know. Are you sure they are in this hotel?" Eric asked as he looked across the street towards the hotel.

"Yes, they are," said Trina. "Strange how Leo could be with someone so soon after he broke up with my best friend. I wonder who that woman is."

"Probably someone we don't know. Come on, we don't have much time."

Eric started his way towards the hotel and he was just about to cross the road when he realised that he was alone and Trina had remained behind next to her car.

"Aren't you coming?" he asked.

"No, I think you got this handled," said Trina. "I better be rushing somewhere. I better not be here when Kim arrives."

"But you called her. She expects you to be here."

"Well, in as much as I would like for her to bust Leo, I realised that I made a terrible mistake and that's why I called you. I have to go for work."

"On a weekend?"

"Ya, dad was supposed to meet some client today and he had another engagement, so, he told me to attend to his client."

Eric raised an eyebrow as he stared at his wrist watch. "Aren't you late?"

"No, I made sure to start off early. I'll see you later, Eric. Tell me how it goes."

Eric nodded his head and Trina quickly got into her car. Eric looked on down the road he was about to cross and he did so quickly before he was caught jay walking. He heard Trina's car engine roar to life and as he got to the next street, he saw Trina's car reversing and soon taking a turn down the road and drove off.

Eric made his way to the hotel and when he soon got in, he went straight to the reception desk where he met a male receptionist finishing a call on the landline. He gave a friendly smile to Eric as soon as he put the receiver down.

"Good afternoon, sir," said the receptionist. "How may I help you?"

"Afternoon," greeted Eric with a kind smile. "Did anyone my the name of Leo McDonell book a room in this hotel? It's just that, I'm his cousin and we were supposed to have an urgent meeting with a client."

***

She couldn't help but grip the steering wheel of her car tighter. If anyone was driving with her, they would be afraid that she could rip it out with all of her anger. Furthermore, she was speeding down the roads of New York like she was in a race and willing to win. But it was clear to see that she was driving so fast just to get to Leo.

After she got the call from Trina, Kim left all that she was doing at home and was making her way to the hotel that Trina had seen Leo go in with another woman. The thought of Leo being with someone else hurt Kim very much. She couldn't help but feel that the woman Leo was with might be the reason why Leo called off their engagement. But she couldn't be too sure. Before the wedding, Leo was just fine and he was sure that she was the one he wanted to marry. She never understood the sudden change in his decision. It's like he became a whole different person.

"Whoever that woman is, she's going to pay," Kim said to herself as she continued to drive. "And so will Leo. He can't do this to me. He just CAN'T!"

Within a few minutes of driving, she soon found herself at the hotel and without any hesitation, she got out of the car as soon as she stopped on the driveway. She gave her car keys to the valet who was already approaching her and the vehicle.

After passing the doorman and entering the lavish hotel lobby, Kim went straight to the reception desk and found a man there smiling up at her.

"Afternoon, ma'am," said the receptionist. "How may I help you?"

"Yes, am looking for Leo, Leo McDonell," said Kim. "I need to see him, it's urgent."

Angel settled down on a table opposite Oliver after she had ordered at the counter. Oliver was smiling up at her when she sat.

"What's up?" Angel asked. "You seem to be smiling a lot after I said we would have chocolate cake."

"That's exactly that," he said. "I love chocolate."

Angel smiled. "Same here."

"Do you think Eric will take long?"

"No, I don't think so. He will be walking through that door in the next few minutes."

"We won't leave any cake for him, will we?" Oliver gave Angel a smirk.

"Nah, besides, this treat is for chocolate lovers only."

Oliver smiled. "True. By the way, I want to talk to you about something."

"What is it?" Angel asked with an eyebrow raised.

"It's about Eric. I can tell he's really into you."

Angel couldn't help but blush over Oliver's statement. For an eleven year old, he was really direct. She guessed that's how children were these days.

"Really?" she asked after clearing her throat. "How do you know?"

"I see the way the looks at you," said Oliver as he played around with a white napkin on the table. "He has those things in his eyes. What are they called..... oh, yes, a twinkle in his eyes."

"I don't see any twinkle in his eyes," said Angel, finding the conversation hilarious.

"That's because you don't notice it. But I do. I have never seen him look at any of his girlfriends like that."

"He has many girlfriends?" Angel gasped. "Looks like to me he's a player."

"You can say that. I used to hear mum tell him to stop going out with different girls all the time and only settle for one. It seems like he really likes you."

"Have you met any of his girlfriends?"

"Not really, just a few. I never liked any of them."

The sound of a bell was heard all over the small cafe as the person on the counter called out the order number. It was Angel's number and she stood up from the chair and went to get the two large pieces of chocolate cake, each on a plate at the counter. She was soon back on her seat and laid one of the plates in front of Oliver.

"Here you go. Enjoy your dessert," she said.

"Yummy," said Oliver as he got the fork that was already laid on the table and started to dig in.

Just as Angel and Oliver were enjoying their dessert, the bell at the door of the cafe rang, indicating that someone had either walked in or out. In this case, someone had walked in. There were a few people in the cafe and they were all minding their own business, not caring at all.

The person looked around and spotted Angel first before noticing that Angel wasn't alone. The stranger soon approached the table.

"This cake is delicious," said Oliver.

"Tell me about it," Angel agreed. "I can order more of these."

"And wouldn't it be nice if I had some?" asked the person who had approached their table.

Angel looked up first with a look on her face. Oliver also did the same and he gasped.

"Trina? What brings you here?" Oliver asked.

Trina smiled at Oliver. "How are you, Oliver?" she greeted him. "And aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?"

"I'm Angel," Angel blurted out before Oliver could say anything. "Angel Barclay."

"Trina Zain. Nice to meet you. Is it okay if I join you two?"

"Not at all," said Angel trying to put up a smile. "If you're going to order, you should order this cake. It's delicious."

"Yes, Trina," said Oliver. "You should try it. It's divine."

"I will," Trina said with a smile. "I'll be back. Let me just order, okay?"

Trina turned towards the counter and went to make her order. Angel looked at her and she had a funny feeling about Trina being here. She had seen her car drive away from the cafe some minutes ago. Why was she here? Angel felt like she already knew why.

It was about Eric.
