Chereads / Bloody Fate / Chapter 5 - Four: Unwanted Fate

Chapter 5 - Four: Unwanted Fate

Hours later we sit in a dusty room with one of Aurora's shady friends, 'associates' she called them, stacks of books filled the tables. Aurora sat with her head in a book about the gods while I got my blood tested, her friend bringing her books after books all day while we waited for results on my blood. He asked so many questions and Aurora only answered with vagueness or just plain ignored him. All I wanted was to sit down with a cup of tea and forget this day even happened, but I couldn't hide from this- not from how that old lady made it sound.

Slamming an old-looking book down on the table in front of me making me jump Aurora grins triumphantly. "I think I found it."

I sigh feeling very drained. "Found what exactly?"

"You're Fate." She says it quietly and I look up at her with a startled expression.

"Excuse me? My what?" I say with less intelligence than I like.

She points to the book. "You were greeted by one of the three Fates, she called you a Prophet so I've been looking through every book that mentions one. Only one of these made any sense to me though."

Following her finger I read the faded text:

Broken peace grows disunity and war breeds, centuries of distrust and hate sewn through violence. Mankind will fight and fail left to crumble to Darkness. It will test the Prophet's soul and taint her blood, the child of Zeus holds the prosperity or ruin of Humanity.

The words weigh heavy on my chest, like two tons of bullshit was just thrown on me. It seemed like every other minute something new finds its way into my life and makes it its life mission to cause hell in my life. I let out a large sigh and lean back in my chair, my back tight and knotted.

"Well, that sums it up," I say sarcastically.

Aurora smirks and hops onto the table crossing her legs. I try my hardest not to follow her movements, afraid of losing the moral battle inside me to touch her. "Right? Weight off my shoulders knowing that the world depends on a newly turned teenage vamp."

I glare at her but it does nothing but make her laugh, irritation spikes in me hating how well she can get under my skin but hers was too thick. Not to mention I couldn't stop thinking about her lips. "So what now?" I ask to distract myself.

Reaching over Aurora tucks a stray hair behind my ear oh so gently, barely touching me at all. "We continue training, you still need to learn a few things about being a vampire." She looks over at her associate who is hunched in the corner watching us oddly."Right?"

The small cat-like man slinks off to look at some papers coming back shortly after jerking his head in a nod. "Test is complete," his small eyes slide over to me with cold interest. "She is descended from the Olympians, her blood dominates the vampire disease but she is still a vampire-more like half. But she did die and completed the transition so yes... she will need training I suppose."

I flinch at his harsh words. Aurora snaps "Manners pet, lest I break your thin-looking neck." Her voice coated in ice.

He quickly apologizes but still ushers us out of his house saying something about needing sleep. We make our way into the cold night hoping to make it to Aurora's before sunrise. The walk is quiet but not uncomfortable, my walking companion staring up at the starry sky quietly. It was nice to walk outside, feeling the cool air frees me from the warring thoughts in my mind. I had gone outside much since I was turned so I take a chance to soak it in. Every once in a while I would sneak glances over at Aurora as we walked, her face calm and thoughtful as if she's thinking hard on something.

Once we make it to Aurora's hideaway apartment I shrug off my jacket and boots leaving them by the door and find my way to the bedroom where I flop face-first onto the bed with a groan. I take several deep breaths and try to make sense of things. After a while, there's a dip in the bed that lets me know Aurora is laying beside me I turn over to face her to find her staring at me with a furrowed brow.

"What is it?" I ask.

The corners of her mouth turn down and her face softens. "I'm just thinking about how difficult this will be for you."

I let out another groan burying my face in the blankets. "It's all lot to be thrown at all at once yeah but hey all I have to do is save the entire planet earth from certain doom."

Aurora ignores my attitude but goes silent thinking then she opens her mouth to say "This will be hard for you, temptation to do the wrong thing will always be testing your will."

Again I groan sitting up pushing my hair out of my face impatiently. "I'm going to take a shower," I grumble before gathering some PJs and stomping to the bathroom.

From behind me, Aurora calls out "We will have to talk about this, you know that right?"

"I don't want to talk about it!" I yell before slamming the bathroom door shut.

In the shower I let the pulsating water knead my tense muscles, taking deep breaths. I know I was acting like a child but what the hell??? You don't just drop a bomb like this with no explanation or guide telling you what the deal is; just boom 'you might save or destroy the world bye!' boom. This was a lot for anyone to deal with but I was still getting used to being a vampire....half a vampire?....with Olympian blood? See? I don't even know what I am! How am I supposed to save the world?

As if I could scrub my problems away I clean my body vigorously. Once my mind has calmed and I am clean I step out of the shower and dry off. I braid my hair and brush my teeth before exiting the bathroom steam rolling out with me as I open the door. Aurora sits at the table with two glasses full of red liquid. I make my way over to her and sit down across from her.

"What are you drinking?"

She pushes a glass toward me with two slender fingers. "AB+ with some whiskey..." When she sees my look of distaste she reassures me. "It shouldn't hurt now that you've completed the change and if it does the whiskey's there to help."

Aurora picks up her glass to take a sip telling me she will drink with me. Pursing my lips I take the glass eyeing it before I gulp it down. It tastes sweet like honey and the whiskey brings a bite to it, it wasn't bad at all. Judging from the smug look on Aurora's face she knew I would like it.

"It wasn't half bad..." I say trying to sound cool.

Aurora laughs, low and melodic, swigging her drinking. "I knew you would like it pet."

At the nickname I bristle, over the past month, I've realized Aurora using nicknames as a weapon, lulling her prey into death. I brush it off trying to keep the mood light. I stand and walk away from the table to the bedroom. I feel more than hear Aurora following me. Her presence made my skin tingle.

"What a day." I sigh plopping down on the bed.

Aurora chuckles sitting next to me. "Understatement of the year." She lays down still facing me, black hair splaying over white sheets. How could one person be this gorgeous?

Throwing the thought from my mind before I get ahead of myself I ask "What is the plan for tomorrow?"

One long elegant finger boops me on the nose silencing me. "Tomorrow I take you home."

I stood in the bedroom I have occupied for the last month staring at a familiar person in the mirror, looking at how much I have changed, it was subtle but noticeable. I was still me but everything was...for lack of a better word, healthier. My auburn hair thicker the color more vibrant, my face full and sharp. My eyes were different even a bright lighting blue now held a faded ring of red around my pupils, looking around my surroundings alert and eager. My teeth were also thicker, my canines and incisors sharp. It was odd to look at myself and not really see me. Would my family see me differently? I was going home today and the feeling of butterflies in my stomach only worsens at the thought of my family seeing me as something and not someone. Would they still love me, now that I'm a...monster?

My panicked thought process is interrupted by Aurora's keen scent wafting through the front door. I turn to look at her and nearly melt like I always do when I see her. Today she wore tight black leather pants that did wonders for her legs, high heels that gave her a few extra inches to her already tall figure, and a light grey long sleeve shirt framing her curvy figure. She wore her hair up in a high ponytail exposing her long delicious neck and giving me a nice view of her ample breast.

"Your things are packed," she informs me of coming into the bedroom leaning in the door frame. "We will take leave whenever you are ready."

I smile at her words now and then Aurora would speak like she was from a different time; then again I suppose she was I never asked her how old she is, feeling like it was extremely personal. "Thanks," I reply tucking my loose hairs behind my ear taking a moment calm myself.

Outside the night sky twinkled with stars, tonight was beautiful. I leave the bedroom taking a seat at the small kitchen table and stare out the kitchen window. Aurora follows me sitting across from me with her hands in front of her, a piece of cloth showing between her fingers. Long fingers pick at the fabric absently.

My interest piqued I ask. "What is that?"

A smile plays on the vampire's lips. "Come here and find out." The teasing clear in her voice.

Nonetheless, I make my way over to her scooting my chair closer crossing my legs under me, and lean forward with my chin in my hands. I didn't mind playing her games most of the time, they were fun. That little gleam in her slanted eyes brighten at my corporation she turns to face me fully with a smug look. The cloth in her hands was white and plain cotton fabric revealing a ring inside when she opens her hands. It was simple but pretty, all the same, the band twisting over and over creating an intricate design around a small green stone.

"It's a very pretty ring," I murmur.

With two slender fingers, Aurora picks it up and examines it with a gentle yet keen eye. "Indeed."

Reaching over my sire takes my right hand and slides the ring onto my middle finger, holding my hand up Aurora looks at it again with the same gentle, artistic expression. I try not to blush at the intimacy of it all making a small noise in my throat and Aurora blinks, dropping my hand like a hot coal. Her expression changing from one of openness to a guarded of contempt. My heart drops slightly at the 180 in her actions, always pushing me to arm's length.

"That ring is enchanted," Aurora's voice thick with an unreadable emotion. "It will allow you to walk in sunlight freely. I had it made for you the other day."

I blink in surprise looking more closely at the ring. "What? How is that possible?"

Aurora smirks but explains. "It was a spell invented centuries ago by some witch, it's very useful."

Smiling to myself I say. "Thank you, it's a nice thought."

She turns away from me waving a dismissive hand. "You have a full life ahead of you, the sun shouldn't be a reason you can't live it." I couldn't see her face so I couldn't tell what she was thinking. Aurora stands suddenly startling me. "Come, let's take you home."
