Chapter 1 - Death

The sky is painted with an orange hue as the sun descends below the horizon and the light for the day slowly fades welcoming the arrival of the night. The view is beautiful and scenic looking like a painting or a piece of magnificent art. If it was three years ago, the view would have attracted the attention of anyone.

In a small dark room of an abandoned house, a thin tired body of a woman can be seen sitting on a messy bed. After being on full guard for the whole day, Violet cannot wait to just rest her body on the bed for the night and sleep till the next day but she knows she is unable to do so. Tonight is the full moon. She needs to be extra cautious or she might become a victim to one of those monsters.

It started four years ago when the whole world managed to survive the global epidemic. There was a lot of fatality during those times but luckily the cure was found and those who had been infected were cured successfully. All of the people were rejoicing over the success and people finally felt safe coming out.

Unfortunately, it was the start of humankind's nightmare.

A year after that, a sudden death outbreak occurred nationwide. No one knew the causes of the death and before anyone managed to discover the truth, the world once again experienced something that no one could have ever thought of. It was all too sudden.

The dead suddenly raised from the death and mutated into something unfathomable.

Some grew extra limbs, some strengthened their body parts and some changed into something that cannot be called a human anymore.

Since then, chaos has fallen upon humankind. Humans who were used to being pampered then need to fight for their own survival. As they fight to face the new day, time continues to flow and it has been 3 years since then.

Violet was one of those who survived until now. Although she is alone now, she was actually in a group of 7 before some of them died during the fight and some choose to betray the team for their own lives. They were supposed to look for new supplies but they never expected that they would come across a horde of level B monsters.

SCREECHHHH!!

The sudden sound of screeching startled Violet and her hand tightly holding on to the metal pipe that has been accompanying her for 2 days now. That sound is not something unusual since the start of the apocalypse but it still caused a cold shiver to anyone who heard it.

It was the sound of evolving.

No one knew why every time it was a full moon, all those monsters would evolve and become more bloodthirsty. If it was during the normal time, they were difficult to be killed with the chance of 50-50. But during the full moon, the chance of being ripped apart by those monsters rose to 98%.

Walking slowly to the window, Violet peeked through the gap of the curtain. From there, she can see a lone monster standing on the top of the roof across her hiding place.

An S-level monster!

The lady luck probably had left her when the monster suddenly looked towards her direction. Startled, Violet almost stumbled back on the floor. But she knew her situation had turned for the worse.

The monster has found her.

ROARRRRR

In a blink of an eye, the monster jumped from the other side to her side. Violet tightened her hold on the metal pipe and ready to move away because she knew her chance of surviving was small.

Running out of the room, Violet can hear the sounds of the wall being destroyed as the monster starts to chase after her. The sounds of growling and crashing can be heard from the room.

She knew she had nowhere to go. The outside is more dangerous than the inside. Even if the chance of her to shake off and hide from the monster is low, it was still better than her going outside.

Running to the farthest room, Violet dodged to the right getting inside the room and quickly ran to a hiding spot that she had prepared beforehand. After blocking herself, she stayed on guard as she listened to the sound of the monster outside thrashing through the hallway and finally broke through the door of the room.

'It's okay. S-Level only heightened their sense of seeing. You can do this, Violet.'

The growling sound of the monster can be heard filling the quiet room. Violet tried to stay as quiet as possible and reduce her presence to avoid being detected by the monster. A sudden crashing startled her but she still managed to keep her quiet state.

She cannot see what happened outside of her hiding spot but she knew it was not good as the monster kept on crashing looking for her. After a while, the crashing stops, and only the sounds of the growling fills the air. But maybe the god of death has decided to write her name in the death list when suddenly one of the monster's long thorny arms stab through the wall straight onto her right shoulder.

"Aargh!!"

It was not the end when the arm was immediately pulled away causing blood to gush out from the shoulder. Although it was painful, Violet held firm onto her steel pipe and immediately ran out of her hiding spot. Right in front of her, the monster hissed loudly and continued to attack its prey.

Violet dodged as best as she can as she ignored the pain on her shoulder. Whenever the attack almost reached her, she would try to deflect it away. Unfortunately, no matter how hard the living struggles, there will always be a limit to it. With the injuries and exhaustion piling up inside her body, Violet soon knew it is the end of her life.

Gritting her teeth, Violet decided to do a suicide mission as she gripped tightly onto her metal pipe and immediately rushed towards the monster. As she neared the monster, she thrust the pipe straight to the bulging purple eye of the monster even when her stomach was stabbed by it.

"I guess... both of us... ends here."

The monster screeched loudly as it thrashing painfully inside the room. Violet smirks as her consciousness slowly fades away and her limp body finally falls from the monster.

The smell of blood will surely attract others.
