I looked at Wilfred and couldn't help but feel a certain way. Over the years, we'd had our share of issues, but none had involved betrayal. Now, I couldn't shake the thought that his love for Unique might have caused him to betray our friendship. Even though I was asking Carl questions, I wasn't naïve. I knew more of the inside story than Emmanuel. I only acted as I did because of him.
I knew how I felt when Bella did not trust me and felt that I would hurt Carl. I did not want Emmanuel to feel the same.
The Clay were too organized for there to be any such thing as coincidence. I knew Unique had used her past relationship with Carl to approach Mrs. Brown, and I was also certain that the Clay and Young Entertainment were connected. How could I have been investigating the Clay for months and not noticed this?
