Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Snowflakes slowly falling down from the white and dull sky. I lifted my head up to catch one tiny snowflake on my nose. It feels cold. It quickly melted on my pitch-black nose. Once again I looked up if I still could see Chik flying in the air. And, yes, I did. Seeing a black crow hovering in the sky. I hope he knows where that someone is that could turn me back fast. We already have been walking for more than five hours. I'm getting hungry. "Hey, Chik! How about we stop and start eating. I am starting to get hungry and I really want to eat something!" I suggested as Chik dive and landed on a rock in front of me.

"Ah, yes, I am here to help you how to be a wolf," Chik said nodding his head. Finally. I am really starving here. I haven't eaten anything yet ever since I woke up, but hunger was the least on my mind back then. Now it's biting me. "So what do we have to do? Do we look for berries?" I looked around to see if there is a bush nearby with berries. As I said that Chik laughed in response. "We're going hunting. And I mean yer going to hunt an elk! It's easy!" As Chik said that he flies up in the sky flapping his wings, creating a tiny gust of wind that brushed over my face.

"Me?! Going to hunt?! I don't even know how to hunt! So You're telling me I have to run after an animal and try to kill it with my mouth?!" No way in Hell is I going to run after an animal and kill it! Maybe there is something easy for me to get.

"Of course, how else are ya going to survive this winter? Yer going to starve if ya don't hunt for food. I advise hunting for a sick and weak animal, they're easier to get. I'll look for one, wait here." After Chik said that he left me all alone in a world covered in snow and ice. I inhaled a deep breath and pointed my nose up in the air, sniffing up some scents. Some are recognizable and some are not, things I will never be able to smell like a human. Being Sometimes an animal is amazing. I can smell the scent of fresh blood and the smell of a fox, as I could figure out that the fox had caught its meal and is now feasting on it. I can smell the scent of two weasels running and jumping around in the snow. It seems they're having fun. There is one scent that is different from any other scent.

I shudder, my fur going straight up in the air. This scent... this smells like danger. I looked around my environment to see if the danger is close by. It's dangerously close by. Another shudder went through my bones. As the wind feels, even more, colder and the scent of danger crawled in my nose. Automatically, my tail went between my hind legs as something emerges from the green bushes. It's big, but I am bigger.

The animal looked at me with its cat-like eyes. Purring as it saw me frozen in place. Four pairs of huge paws. I am hoping this big cat doesn't see me as their next meal. As far as I know, cougars can be extremely dangerous. And I so happen to have crossed paths with a vicious beast. Get your act together, Mark! You're a wolf! Bigger than this kitty cat! I slapped myself mentally back to reality. Out of instinct, a growl escaped from my throat. Ears pointed towards the cougar. And my tail raised in the air. I used to see this documentary about wolves and wildlife. As I remember correctly wolves do this in order to assert dominance over their species or other species; by growling. Don't show fear. Head and tail high. This should scare off this cougar away.

I celebrated too soon as I heard hoarse chuckles from the feline. I squinted my eyes at the feline who is now circling around me, leaving deep paw prints in the snow, whilst lowering its body over the ground. I need to stand on my guard it could attack me anytime now. I let it hear another one of my growls, but this time louder. "Do you really think this would scare me, mutt?" I hear a female voice coming from the feline. "I don't fear mutts like you. In fact, you're just merely my entertainment. So weak." Another chuckle as the feline kept circling around me. I lowered my head, uncurling my lips, and showing off my big and sharp fangs. "Oh, sweety, spare the growling. I'm not here to hurt you, no, not at all." She stopped in front of me. Her eyes sparkled by the reflection of the sun. Assuming her eyes would be sparkling and bright green.

"What do you want from me?" That's what everyone would say in movies when an unknown enemy approached. Am I going to make my first enemy? Let's hope for not. I was never strong or good at fighting. I usually avoid any conflict. I don't like being the guy who always wanted to fight. I have other things to do than breaking my bones. But I would fight back if anyone hurts Rebecca or my friends. That is the type of man I am. But this animal seems to be wanting to fight me? Did I accidentally cross her territory? Animals can be very aggressive when a strange animal enters their territory. But if it is hers, then Chik would've told me right? He could set me up, knew I was weak and hungry, and left me here to die. An easy kill for this mountain lion.

"Are you with a pack?" She asked me, "tell your alpha from the Silverstream that they need to get out of my territory when going on hunting. If they keep entering my territory I will kill one of your pack members. Got it?" She sounded annoyed. I even could hear a low growl coming from her. Nothing like a normal house cat. This was louder and hoarse, and scarier. I felt another shudder going through me. Step up your game, Mark! This is nothing for you! You're much stronger now!

"And what if I am not in that pack? What if I tell you to fuck off?" I made it clear with a loud growl. This cat reminds me of that bitch, Venessa. Ugh, I hated that bitch. She was always trying to pick a fight with me and my friend group. Letting us know which tables are hers during lunchtime. And if we sit at her table, god, she would let us know that we are tress passing her territory. "The truth to be told... I don't smell you have marked this place as your own." I said as I sniffed in the air looking back at her with a smug expression. She didn't like that in the least as she made it very clear by lowering her body, ears pointed to the back of her neck, and hissed at me with a low yowl. "You remind me of someone I really don't like. You're just a bitch that claims something that doesn't even belong to her." I said raising my head high. Still showing the smug expression at her.

"What did you just say? Do you wish to die, right here?!" Now she's pissed off. "Very well." I stood my ground, I clearly can see she is ready to attack me right on this spot. I kept my tail raised in the air to show her I am not afraid of her. I can handle her. I can fight her. But as she wanted to jump towards me for an attack with her two big paws filled with sharp claws, a black crow started pecking her face. Cawing and screaming at her. I was in disbelief.

"Chik?!" I barked out.

"Get out of here!" He cawed right back at me.

I nodded and turned my body around and ran away from the scene. I can't believe Chik came back. I was very confident he would've abandoned me. But I was wrong. As I run and run. I am slowly out of breath, but I have to keep going. I wasn't looking where I am going. Swiftly in between the bushes, the trees. The cold wind brushing against my fur. My brows furrowed. I wasn't looking at all, as I placed my paw miss on the ground and fell down from a hill. Crashing on the small river that was covered in ice. My weight should've broken the frozen water. Lucky as I was the river not deep. I recollected myself and sat up slowly. The water dripping from my fur. It's cold. I don't like this, I don't like being here.

I want to go back. I could cry, I want to cry. My body started to tremble from the cold. Of course, I just fell in freezing water. Of course, it's freezing cold now. My ears started to point towards a faint rustle in the bushes up on the other hill on the other side. I lifted my head up to look who was approaching me this time. Another mountain lion? A bear? What is it?! Focusing my eyes on the rustling bushes. They widen as another wolf revealed themselves.

If I could see the color I assume their fur coat would be brown? Maybe more ginger brown. But all I can see is black, gray, and white. It's a pity I can't see any colors other than these three. One of the cons of being a wolf. I stared up at the wolf who stared down back at me. It's like a staring contest now. The longer we are staring at each other the faster the wolf growled at me. I quickly moved my head away. I forgot animals don't like being stared in their eyes; especially dogs and wolves. My ear flicked towards the sound of twigs breaking and the sound of something stepped in snow.

I quickly moved my head back at the other wolf. Not much smaller than me. It's approaching me! What should I do?! Is it going to fight me too?! I took a step backward as the wolf approaches me closer. But it didn't seem to fight me. In fact, their ears lowered and pointed back to their neck. I hold my breath as the wolf finally is an inch closer away from me and started sniffing my nose, giving it even a few licks. A Soft whimper is all I can hear from the wolf. It's like time has stopped itself. I can't even hear the birds singing anymore. This wolf, for some reason, smells great.

The wolf quickly stopped as we both can hear howling from the distance. The wolf quickly turned around and ran away from me. "Hey! Wait!" I wanted to go after the wolf, but I fell back in the freezing water as one of my hind legs got stuck in the twigs. I barked after the wolf. "Come back!" But the wolf is already gone from my sight. "Dammit!" I barked with an angered growl. Moving my head quickly to gnaw my leg free from the twigs. Once finally free from the grasp of the twigs, I quickly followed the scent of the wolf. As I followed the scent, but quickly I had to stop my tracks as more scents crawled in my nose. I lost their scent. I let out a frustrated growl.

I should go back and check on Chik, if he's still alive.
