Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"She ain't coming back." said Janey as one of the girls were being dragged away for their next check-up.

"Don't say that, Janey." said Maria as she bit her nails nervously.

"What do you want me to say? You and I and all the other girls who aren't that looney know it's true. She had a looney episode so Dr Freeman is taking her to 'fix' her with his lobotomy shit."

A group of well-dressed people walked in. Some with cameras and some with notebooks.

"Well would you look at that. Looks like he's going to have an audience too. May as well give them a little preview of the freak show." Janey got up and began to sing, dancing seductively around one of the males. The man's cheeks burned up intensely as Janey continued to dance around him, touching him on sensitive spots here and there.

"That's enough Janey," nurse Min walked in and pulled Janey away from the reporter.

"Girl, sit your ass down."

Janey continued to sing and dance but this time around nurse min.

Nurse Min turned to Maria.

"She thinks this bothers me."

Janey sat back down and rested her head on Patti's, the plump, giggly girl's shoulder. A plump man walked in after with a beautiful woman and a what appeared to be a bodyguard on either side of him.

"The mayor is here." nurses gasped in astonishment.

"All nurses to medbay. I repeat all nurses to medbay immediately." said a female's voice over the PA.

"Good morning to you all," said Dr Freeman nervously looking around at the audience before him.

"Uh, wel- welcome everyone. Today I am going to share with you an advanced technique that could possibly cure mental illness itself. It is called the lobotomy. Bring her in please," Dr Freeman gestured to the door.

Two nurses entered pushing a metal table with a large medical blanket covering something.

They stopped in front of the table and removed the blanket revealing an unconscious female patient.

"Thank you Nurse Lee and Nurse Woo." the nurses walked off and sat down.

Dr Freeman picked up two pieces of medical equipment and held them in front of the audience.

"Before I begin I assure you this patient is under heavy sedation and will not feel a thing. She is a manic depressive who suffers from bipolar. As you can see on this board here are her before pictures. We can tell she is mentally disturbed. Now for the moment you've been waiting for. I will access the frontal lobes through the eye socket using this, an orbitoclast, also known as an ice pick. The instrument will be inserted through the patients eye socket with this hammer. The instrument will then be moved side-to-side to separate the frontal lobes from the thalamus. Now," Dr Freeman turned to the unconscious patient.

"I will demonstrate. I am placing the orbitoclast in the eye socket. I will now use the hammer to insert it fully," with a hard thud of the hammer, a crack was heard. The audience gasped and nurse Gwendolyn threw up then fainted.

"Somebody get her out of here!" Dr Freeman yelled embarrassingly.

A security guard picked Nurse Gwendolyn up and took her outside.

"I am now moving the orbitoclast from side-to-side to separate the frontal lobes from the thalamus," the sound of sticking flesh grew louder.

The unconscious patient opened her eyes and screamed in terror.

"I'm so sorry this was not meant to happen." said Dr Freeman nervously to the audience.

The woman grabbed the ice pick and attempted to pull whilst continuing to scream in pain and terror. Blood began to stream out of her eye and down her cheek. Dr Freeman grabbed her hands tightly.

"Help! I need help! Get me more anesthesia!" Dr Freeman yelled to Nurse Min. Nurse Min stared in horror, unable to move.

The woman was much too strong and in one swift motion pulled the ice pick out of her eye. In an instant the sound of metal hit the floor and her arm dropped next to her. Dr Freeman hurriedly lifted her arm and checked her pulse. Nothing. He then checked her neck. Nothing.

"It appears she is dead."

"It appears she is dead? Dead? Are you fucking kidding me? Is this a Joke?" the mayor got up and yelled at Dr Freeman.

"You can forget about your funding and you can kiss this facility goodbye too." he said and turned to leave.

"Mr Mayor please it was a simple mistake the next time will be much mor--"

"Next time? There is no next time. You're delusional and quite frankly Dr Freeman I think it is you who belongs in a mental institute. I'm shutting this down."

The mayor walked out as the people with flashing cameras followed him.

"Clean this up!" yelled Dr Freeman.

"A word in my office please, nurse Min."

"One word for you nurse Min: Unprofessional," yelled Dr Freeman as he slammed the office door behind him.

"I beg your pardon,sir?"

"You heard me. Unprofessional! I needed your help back there. When a Doctor asks for help from a nurse the nurse usually gives the help that is needed. I called for your help specifically because you are head nurse but you stood there and let a patient die."

" I'm sorry if I bring any offense to you, Dr but I didn't let anyone die. If it weren't for you and this God forsaken experiment she wouldn't have died in the first place! Now once again, I am sorry but I refuse to let any more of these young girls die at your hands."

" You can't tell me what to do. You're a nurse for crying out loud. A woman. You are nothing. I have accomplished far more than you ever will and I most certainly have gained far more power than you ever will," Dr Freeman walked closer and stood inches away from nurse Mins face

"Now I suggest you go and clean that mess like a good little girl and nurse should and keep this little chat to yourself. Unless of course you don't need a job to feed those two beautiful children of yours."

"Yes, Dr Freeman." said nurse Min as a single tear of enragement rolled down her cheek.

"That'll be all for now, nurse Min." Dr Freeman sat back in his chair and watched nurse Min reach for the door.

"Oh and nurse Min?"

"Yes, Dr?"

"Close the door on your way out." said Dr Freeman as a sinister smug look appeared on his face.
