Chapter 1 - LEGENDS

"Bloodthirsty beings made by the devil itself.

Songs from the water.

Watch out sailors, there are mermaids underneath.

Keep your eyes shut,

For when you see it's face, It'll pull you down.

Caught within is a hymn,

A lullaby for when you hear, you die."

Laughter follows the sound of my voice after stating this song.

"Do you actually believe in these types of stories?" My childhood friend, Brian asked me.

"This is not a story! This is a legend! And it's better to have some knowledge rather than being ignorant about 'em!" I replied.

"Come on Plint! Wake up! We're in the middle of the ocean right now, so stop dreaming!"

"What the hell am I doing here anyway! I should be at my house, tilling my garden."

"Oh shut up mate! I brought you here cause I had a huge catch and I need your help! It's too hard to lift the net up! A huge catch suddenly came out of nowhere and I had to get you within the next hour!" Brian said as he started to pull the big and heavy net up.

"Alright, you mongrel! Just make sure that I get my part okay?" I said as I started helping him pull the net.

The waves started to get bigger and rougher, while the clouds became darker and thunder started roaring.

"And out of all the days we could've gone to the ocean, it had to be a stormy day! Are you a madman? We could be caught in the middle of a gewidere!" I exclaimed to him.

"Shut your trap! I thought that this wouldn't take long!" He said rolling his eyes.

"Where are your manners, Mr. Brian Becker? Roll your eyes and they may never come back as to what they were!" I teased him as I was struggling to keep my balance while pulling the net at the same time.

"Well pardon my manners, Mr. Plint Crawford! I'm trying to earn some money here! Hey! You're family's heavily rich, why'd you agree to come here?" He asked grunting every once in a while.

The wind started gushing harder. I felt the harsh winds and the rough waters splashing into my face.

"Well, aren't you my best friend? I came here to help you since you never accept the money I give you. Money is really not useful when you don't spend it or give 'em away." I said as I stood up and wiped off my sweat while still holding onto the net.

I hear him release a little laugh.

We started pulling harder knowing that we would get caught in such a huge storm if we don't hurry.

I guess riding in a medium-sized boat was not such a good idea.

"Finally! " we said in unison as the fish started to get within eye's view.

"How is this so heavy? You really hit the jackpot! This is bonkers!" I exclaimed.

We started to see the end of the net when suddenly Brian pointed out a shark getting caught up in his net.

"I'm gonna be rich!" he shouted and let out the happiest laugh he could release.

He instantly let go of his side of the net and let the fish onto deck.

A huge tail could be seen covered with fish on top.

A humongous fish! Such a gorgeous tail!

"Look at it's tail! It looks so fragile and precious! This could sell for a lot of money!" I shared my thoughts with Brian.

"Oh no! This is bad!" Brian exclaimed as he took a few steps backward, his knees trembling and his voice shaking.

"Why? What is it? Isn't it a good thing that you caught such a huge and marvelous fish?" I addressed him, confused.

"The goddess of the water will come and get us!" He approached me, grabbing my collar with fear obvious in his eyes.

"What? For someone who doesn't believe in mermaids, it's weird that you believe in goddesses."

"No! You don't understand! The goddess is real! S-she was the reason my dad isn't here anymore! We took one of her pets, now she's gonna come for us!"

I stood there silent.

Sadness mixed with fear went along the tears flowing from his eyes.

The wind started gushing out harder and the water was rougher than before.

The medium-sized boat started to sway back and forth and the water began to flood their way in.

Realizing my current situation, I couldn't help but start believing what he said.

Along with the thunder roars and the sound of the waves, you could hear both of us scream our lungs out.

Raindrops as huge as pebbles suddenly fell from the sky, and a whirlpool showed up near the boat.

Both of us started panicking and went about running and screaming.

"Holy jobby*! This is our end! At least we have each other on our last moments, my dear friend." He said, tears still flowing from his eyes.

I let out a little laugh. "If only Alex was here with us! That willy-billy cheapskate wouldn't come here because of some job he got."

A figure started emerging from the whirlpool.

A mysterious woman walking on water. Slowly getting closer to the boat. As she took each step, her beauty under the dark clouds shone.

"The goddess!" He shouted.

"Τολμάτε να διεκδικήσουν κάτι δικό μου?"

"What did she just say?" I asked Brian.

"Μόνο ο θάνατος σας περιμένει."

The goddess looked at Brian and uttered, "You lowly beings should just die!"

With one raise of her hand, the water boarded the boat and grabbed Brian.

Cries of agony escaped Brian's lips.

His hands tried reaching out to me and I tried to reach back but, he was farther than what my hand could reach.

When I realized that fact, I stood back up and tried to run.

But what's the point when there's no space to?

I looked back at the goddess as her eyes started to glow into a bright white light.

Suddenly, I stumbled upon the puddle of fish and laid flat on my stomach.

The pile of fish collapsed causing the image of the huge 'fish' I thought it would be, to be revealed. However, what I saw was a human-like figure with a fish's tail.

It's back was facing me. It had long hair and a beautiful body. I tried to flip it over, and what I saw was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

But, that face doesn't belong to this buffed up body.

It was still breathing through its nose. For some reason, all I could look at was its lips. At this moment, it drew me closer and closer until I could feel my breath against its skin.

"How dare those lowly hands to touch what's mine!"

I looked back at the goddess and I see her lifting one of her hands.

Along with the rise of the water, she spouted the words "You lowly humans just don't know when to stop!"

She exhausted a huge scream that would send you deaf if you were any closer.

The water climbed the boat once more and surged at me at a speed that I believed water could never reach.

I closed my eyes as the water blocked my view, the goddess as the last thing I saw.

Third-person POV

"It has been 2 days since my son has returned." An old man sitting behind his table in the middle of the room said.

"Yes, I have heard. I have been pretty worried about them myself." A young boy with brown curly hair said. He was quite the mysterious type, his face was covered with a used and old towel. His clothes were wrapped with clothes that were covered in dirt and.. traces of blood?

"It would seem like you already know why I called you here." The old man continued.

"..."

"You wouldn't want everyone to know your secrets right?" The man behind the table asked while grabbing himself a glass of wine.

"Alright, old man. But I better hear nothing come out from that mouth." He said in a murderous tone.

The young man climbed onto the window, looked back and said, "Goodbye, Mr. Crawford. May your vengeful ghosts bless you."

He jumped down from the 2nd floor to the ground, disappearing through the night.

"And to you too, Mr. X."
