"Laura! Laura!.. it is time to wake up." Came a whisper at dawn, Laura shot her eyes open with a gasp got up in a haste to see who her caller was but to her suprise nobody was in the room with her.
Her room was unusually cold, she could feel her head swell from.... whatever it is she had no idea. For the past weeks she has been having nightmares about being in hell, and most times in the wide ocean swimming alongside mermaids.
Some of this nightmares felt so real while others, were were just what they were dreams. She's is an atheist born into the Eastman Family. She only believes on things that she can see, feel or touch, things that can be proved scientifically. So she never believed in dreams. As her mother would say...."Dreams are mere imaginations, which our sub-consciousness comes up with whenever we feel bored or when the brain seems to be...."
"Luara!" Her mom's voice echoes from the dinning, interupting her day dreaming. "Luara you are running out of time, get over here." Laura picked her phone to check the time, it was exactly 7:00 am. She yawns, stretched her hands apart above her head, revealing her bare back which is partially covered by her dark blonde hair. She steps on her pair of slippers, took her morning robe from her wardrobe, wore it and headed for the bathroom.
After a while she arrived at the dinning room with a hand bag with her. "What took you so long?" Asked her younger brother George authoritatively.
She ignored him knowing him to be the nagging one.
"Laura you know this is my second week in college, and I am still trying to make a good impression." George remarks.
Laura who was now eating with her mouth filled, tries to speak but is unable.
"Laura perhaps you shu__" George tries to say something but is interrupted by Laura.
"Oh please..."She turned to her mum who doesn't seemed bothered by their arguements "Mum, why do George have to attend the same school as I?"
"His your brother Laura and I want you to keep an eye on him so he doesn't get into any mischief." Her mom replies.
Turning to George he had an annoying smirk on his face.
"But mum, he will be 18 this time next month, she remarked. Why do I always have to babysit him?"
"Sweet heart there is nothing bad in that, you guys attended high school together. Why should college be any different?" Her mother convinced.
"But mom atleast he should learn how to behave like an adult, if I always babysit him he will never get that chance. He will keep on behaving like a baby." Laura said fuming anger.
"Speaking of behaving like an adult...., atleast I don't wear diapers once in a month, You do." George retorted.
George words hits Laura like a blow. She immediately picked an apple from the fruit basket on the table and threw it at George. George saw it coming and was quick to dodge, and the apple hit the wall and squashed into bits.
"Laura!?" her mom yells.
"He started it." Laura defends.
"Alright you two get up I am running late." Her mom said as she got up from the dinning table and made for the living room to get her keys. "Laura don't forget to clean up the mess you made."
"Alright mom, as long as I am sitting with you in the front sit." She said as she entered the kitchen to get a broom.
George got up with the same pace, picked his bagpack and left for the living room. "Not if I get there first."

At school George is in his class room trying to concentrate and get what Mr Alsin, the chemistry lecturer is saying. He is so exhuasted and wonders the cause of it. Then it dawned on him that he had a hetic day the previous day, after school he left with his friends to play football, on getting home after his bath and dinner left for the cinema, and got home rather too late, he did his assignment and played some video games before going to bed.
George is an interesting person to hang out with. He is fun, good looking, funny, and also not bad with his studies at all. His mom and sister often wonders how he is able to balance the equation.
Laura on the other hand is a rather serious one, who is'nt the fun type. Although she doesn't have fun much, she still struggle with time in her studies and home chores and in the friendzone.
After a futile attempt to listen to Mr Alsin, he eventually gave up. He took an headphone from his bagpack and wore it.
The bell rings, signifying the end of chemistry class. The students left Mr Alsin in the lab attending to some paper works. He raised his head and he saw George quite asleep and unaware of his surrounding.
Mr Alsin got up, strolls to were George sat, wide asleep. With the the tip of his index finger, he hits the side of George's headphone.
"Mr Alsin!" George exclaims as he woke up.
"You haven't been sleeping well lately. Have you?" Mr Alsin asks.
"Um ... School works." George replies.
Mr Alsin smiles, then hands George his Chemistry test script.
"Oh look at that." George said looking at his script, which has an A+ grade with 98/100 writen on it boldly. He stares at Mr Alsin who gaves him a reassuring smile.
George got up to leave the lab, but is stopped by Mr Alsin's voice. "Hey, not so fast."
George stops and stares back at him.
"Mr Garry calls for a meeting, he wants everyone to assemble at the assembly hall."
Weird such meetings are only called once in a blue moon. George thought. "Alright sir, thanks alot." He said as he left.
Stepping out of the lab, he bumped into Tyler. Tyler is George's best friend and as friends they share most things in common.
"Hey...! here you are, I have been searching for you everywhere." Tyler scolds.
"Well , here I am now." George said with a smirk, he looks at the hallway, which has only few students left. "Have you seen Laura?"
"Yeah, she is in the assembly hall with some friends, and Garry called a meeting. Really wierd, but I think I know the reason." Tyler replied.
"What is it then? Do you mind sharing?" George asked.
"No , not at all. Do you remember when I told you I hacked into NASA's mainframe." Tyler asked with a smile on his face boldly.
"Yeah, and I remembered telling you that 'You are a big fat liar' how could you possibly want me to believe that trash?" George said bluntly.
He looks at George who is now looking angry. "You don't mind who you pissed off. Do you?" He said finally.
"Tyler! You are not bluffing are you." George said.
"No ! And you shouldn't be either." Tyler blurted out.
"Meaning ?"
"NASA's sitelite intercepted an asteriod on the Earth's orbit 2 days ago." Tyler replied.
"And?" George ask confused.
"It means in about a week time an asteriod will come crashing down on Earth."
George laughs cynically. "You are a bit of a dreamer Tyler," he said finally. He stares at him, and he is still look as serious as ever. "Oh no, pls tell me you are kidding."
"No." Tyler retorted.
"So?!" George said confused.
In about a week time human lives on Earth will be no more. Tyler said.
"Um...., I think we should hear what Garry has to say before we come to a conclusion here." George said with a trembling voice.
Tyler smirks. "Suit yourself."
In the assembly hall the students are chatting, waiting for the arrival of Mr Garry, alot of them are worried about the sudden call for the meeting. What could be so important, to call a meeting in the middle of classes? Asked a male student.
George and Tyler steps into the hall. George looks around and then he sights Laura who motioned for him to come over to the sit she saved for him.
"I will see you later Tyler." He says as he left Tyler alone. Tyler eventually finds a sit and got sitted as most of the student were.
After about 45 minutes of waiting, Mr Garry enters the hall. The hall became so silent that a falling pin can be heard. All eyes turns to him. He doesn't look so happy, but it didn't bothered the students either.
Mr Garry the College Principal, is a bald head stout looking man in his early 50's he is a nice and gentle man but also very disciplinary which makes the students not to see his kind attributes. He is a no nosense man and also an all time serious man, which oddly makes him never to wear a smile for anyone.
He climbs to the pulpit, then stares at the students faces, he saw the curiosity in their faces. He tries to put on his best behaviour since that might be the last time he saw most of the students. He had mixed emotions, he never knew he cared for the students that much. He has been the principal for 20 years and never had he been so emotional towards his students. A tear dropped from his eyes unware of it.
"Is he crying?" asked a student.
George shook his head, he is sweating profusely from the information given to him by Tyler, he is more curious than any of the students. Laura took note of this, but decided to ignore and let it be his business, not wanting to get into another war of words.
Mr Garry, confused on how to tell the students finally spoke. I received a letter yesterday from the Mayor. He pauses then continues. At the time it got to my desk, you all had left for your various homes, so without delay I will read it aloud.
