Wes was ecstatic seeing Rae earlier. He was so happy he thought he was dreaming. But then, he remembered how Rae wishes to break things off. He had to hide his smile.
Wes misses being able to smile when he sees her. Wes realizes, Rae was the only girl that had made him feel like he could show emotions at ease. It was just so comfortable with her. He wanted to be himself, and he wanted nothing more than Rae falling in love with the real him.
But Rae said she didn't want any more contact with him. And now she wanted to talk?
Good lord! Is Rae acting like Miranda? She dates other men but when things don't work out, she comes running back to him?
Yeah, Wes saw with his very own eyes that Rae was making out with another dude.
Rae walks to a nearby diner, trying to order something to-go for Zach, but she realizes she didn't ask Zach what he wanted to eat. Did he want eggs and bacon?
Most importantly, how long is his meeting with Wes going to be? Rae doesn't want to go back if Wes will be there. She wants to talk to Wes, but not inside Zach's office building.
As if Zach could tell what she's thinking, Zach sent a text to her:
"Hey, actually, don't worry about the breakfast. I might be in a meeting for a while. I'll take you up on your offer next time."
And then another text from Zach:
"I want greasy breakfast from the diner down the street next time."
Rae smiles. She texts back, "Sure. Was going to get you that."
Now walking on the first floor to the back door of Zabby's building, Zach sees the reply from Rae, he smiles, too.
"Is there something funny?" Wes asks, seeing Zach texting twice since they got down to the first floor.
"Oh no. I'm sorry. I was just texting a college friend to cancel something."
Zach opens the back door of the building and walks out with Wes. A shiny black Tesla sedan is parked in the back alley.
Wes has asked Zach to go to the back of the building, because Wes has brought his look-alike robot back there.
"Where is… your robot?" Zach didn't see anyone in the car.
"You think I'd just let him sit in the car? I asked him to lie down in the backseat." Wes uses the remote to unlock the car. He approaches the backseat and summons it.
"Wesley, please follow us."
The robot sits back up, and then gets out of the car.
Zach leads them back to the giant lab on the first floor. There are a few engineers inside the lab, including Bo Wang, the one who asked Rae to test the robot.
All the people working in the lab were a surprised to see two Wes Warrens walking in at first. But they quickly resume working on their stuff. They know what that is. They've all worked on his robot.
"So, you said you wanted to return it. Is there something I can do? Did you not like it?" Zach asks as he hooks the robot to a computer station.
"It's fine. I just had no use for it now." Wes curled his lips upward, as if this is just returning a Christmas present to a wholesale store.
"But I'm sure we can find some use for it." Zach is surprised. Wes paid a lot, a lot of money for this. He's just going to give it up?
"Don't worry, I'm not asking my money back. You said you had other A.I. ideas for realistic robots. Since this one is already built, consider it my small investment then. Tell me, what are your other ideas?"
"Oh, great, yeah." Zach is now quite pumped up. He had asked for a pitch meeting. But this is still a great chance to introduce his newest A.I. system.
"So, you know how in-home or mobile device voice-command assistance basically just answers each user's question by searching stuff online. That's not intelligent. With my A.I. program, which I call 'ALL,' the assistant can do a lot more, like a human. It actually provides strategies and real advice, even for complicated matters such as human interactions."
"Hmm, that sounds interesting. So it's not like the one I have?" Wes looks at his robot.
"No. It's much more advanced. It can be a real human companion."
"Rae just told me she was returning A.I. application back to you. Is that the same thing?"
Zach is caught off-guard. He knew Rae left just as Wes came in. But he was hoping she didn't actually bump into Wes Warren. And, Zach didn't expect Rae to tell Wes about it. But of course, she would.
"Yeah, but she only had a smart watch and a voice command box version. Remember, I said I'd help you monitor her to see if she had told anyone about your robot. That's why I had given her the devices." Zach quickly explains.
"Right, and what did you find out?"
"Oh, she has never told anyone about the robot."
"Yeah, she told me the same," Wes puts his hands on his waist, looking around. He really wants to ask if Zach knows anything about Rae dating a new guy. Is she still dating that guy?
"So, yeah, we can install 'ALL' on your realistic robot and we can go from there."
"Good. The new A.I. system sounds very promising. I'm intrigued already. Call my business development department. We can come up with some subscription plans or some services tied to my Wind Chime."
"Right. Then it brings business to your company."
"And then, yeah, we can find other partners. They will want a spot to provide their services to be used by the A.I. robot. It's going to be profitable."
Wes Warren doesn't stop thinking like a businessman. Zach does admire Wes about this.
But Zach also has a business idea, "So, since you said you had a good experience with this robot you have, I believe we can bring that version to the market, too. We can offer different levels of A.I. assistants. Some are simpler versions, like the one you just used. Actually, that's also the version I use as my assistant. It answers my phone calls for me." Zach laughs.
"Yeah, I know. I believe I just spoke to your A.I. assistant again earlier." Wes chuckles.
"Yeah. So, that one still does pretty well. Then, some robots will be the most advanced A.I. assistants, using my 'ALL' system."
"Sure. But just one thing."
"Yeah?" Zach tenses up.
"You gotta erase my looks, my voice from that robot."
"Oh yeah, of course!"
"And another thing." Wes looks serious now.
"Yeah?"
Wes pauses, "Well, actually, I'll get back to you on that later."
"Oh, is it about Rae? I'm sure you don't suspect she'll say anything about the robot anymore."
"Right," Wes looks surprised that Zach brings Rae up. "No, it's not about her. But, yeah, I'm pretty sure I don't need to know anything about her anymore."
Wes looks a little downhearted. Zach is surprised by that. If not about Rae, what did Wes want to ask him about?
Wes actually considers replacing his personal assistant, Samantha, with what Zach is using—just an A.I. system.
The reason for that is, he thinks Samantha is acting strange. She's trying to get his attention too much.
Samantha just told Wes the other day that she talked to his parents in length.
"What? Why? How? Where?" Wes was dumbfounded.
"Oh, because, you know, Mother's Day is coming, so I thought I'd chat with them to find out what present you could get for your mother this year. I kind of just bumped into them at a grocery store at Hill Side."
"You shop at Hill Side?"
"Sometimes." Samantha smiled.
Wes's parents don't live near here. It's kind of bizarre for her to run into his parents.
Wes believes Samantha is trying to impress him on a very different level. A personal level. But he doesn't want to spend his time and energy on dealing with women right now.
Wes might think he caught Samantha's intention early enough. The truth is, Samantha has her eyes set on him long time ago, and Wes just never noticed.
Well, that's because Samantha wasn't that obvious in the past.
Now, Samantha thinks, it's about time to nudge Wes into her. Samantha doesn't want another Rae Novak come into his life, getting invited into his mansion, making him do all those romantic gestures. Wes should be hers. She spent so much time on assisting him.
Samantha believes, if anyone deserves Wes's affection, that should be her—the loyal personal assistant, Samantha.
