Chapter ten
Oakley
My cousin and I lift River by her towel ends into my bathtub. She's covered in dirt and blood. She's asleep still, she probably will be for a while. Her back is all torn up. She looked so pretty in her suit. NO! I can't feel like this. I just need to focus on school, yeah. I start to scrub River. The first dance is in November, but it's the day before Thanksgiving break. It's not really a dance though. It's more of a party. I wonder if I'll get invited. I mean it is hosted by the mayor's twins, Becca, and Liam. River moves and I scrape over one of her cuts.
"Stop, you'll hurt yourself."
"I-I can… do it," I thought she was still asleep, "go."
"What?" I say with a laugh.
"I said go!"
"No! I'm going to do this," she remains still and silent for two minutes.
"You don't love me."
"What," I laugh, "Of course I love you!"
"You don't love me love me," she looks at me with sad puppy eyes.
"What?" I blink.
"Oakley! I love you," she whispers yells at me.
"I know you do! I lo-" she grabs my face and our lips are locked. I gently push away so I don't hurt her.
"Oakley," she says with a laugh, "Your face is red!"
I look in the mirror and I look like a spicy Cheeto, "stay here River," she gives me a salute and smiles like a toddler. I close the door and lean on it for a bit, I need to get my head in the game. I walk out of my bathroom hallway and head to Ms. Fern's room and grab clothes for River. I head to my bathroom and the doors open, she's in my closet.
"River?"
"Yes?" She sounds like a guilty toddler.
"Come put these clothes on."
"Mmmm. Okay," She snatches her clothes out of my hand, puts them on as fast as i have ever seen possible, and jumps on me and we fall on my bed.
"Don't leave me."
"O-ok.''
We lay on the end of my bed for five minutes before she fell asleep. I can't believe she kissed me. Why am I so happy about this? Were just friends, right?
Why did Becca have red hair?
