Chapter 97 - Luna's Investigation

The sky was clear as there wasn't a single cloud to be found. Because of that, the sun was making contact with us directly. It wasn't a problem if it's not summer season. Due to that unbelievable heat was created on the surface. My truck was rushing to the destination while I was feeling extremely hot. The gas station was on the right so I took a turn and stopped the delivery truck. I had to make a stop. The gas level was below average. The alert would ring every few minutes after. It was a pain in ass. Until the gas line went up from average, this pain continues. Getting down from the truck I nonchalantly stretched out my arms in both directions as if feeling a bit sleepy. After that, I took out the handle that connects to the gas tank. I put it inside the opened truck gas hole. The truck was pretty old-fashioned. Mr. Heriss might have forgotten to replace it. It's not like it didn't work. It works pretty well, however, it's getting aged day by day. It's showing its age. I wonder how long it would last. Last week I had to put it in the garage. It was alright because of the weekend. We hardly had any deliveries on that weekend. We were saved by a penny. The meter of the gas tank was going up.

"Ah.." making a deep sigh, I glazed at the store situated right beside the tank. You could say it's the gas station convince store. For some reason, it wasn't crowded at all. I wonder if anyone is inside. As the sun reflected on the glass walls, I could scarcely gasp Inside. Anyway, I have done what I wanted to. Pulling the handle out of the hole, I placed it gently on its respected place. I felt an incredible thirst. It gave me a reason to go to that store. In the end, I went inside it to buy a can of drink and also to pay for the gas. I totally forgot about that. Silly me~ The automatic door opened as I stood before it. After entering it closed by itself. It's a pretty typical door in this age. We have more advanced technology than this petty one. You could say those things can be found in House's now. A kid's toy. Whatever the first thing I noticed was an old man seating behind the cashbox. He was so aged that I felt like he's gonna die any moment soon. As things went, I took a can from the unorganized shelves and put it before the old man. To be more precise, I told him "I'm taking this." In my own way. Even if it's rude, this is my way. The old man slowly faced me with a tired expression. I was ready to spurt up some curse but was held back as he said, "that would be five dollars and fifty cents." That was matured of him. Perhaps, he got the grasp that I would say something unpleasant. As I paid for the drink and gas bill, I noticed that a group of high schoolers entered the store. They were discussing some stuff that I wasn't familiar with. I planned to leave as soon as I'm done with paying but I changed my mind. I acted as if I'm gonna buy some more, however, my main reason was to eardrop them.

One of the high school boys was nagging while others would tease him.

"Hey, ya' haven't you guys heard about that young monster that the police caught a few days ago? He was around our age." The others didn't take it seriously as the matter was. "Who knows who could be a monster. There's might be some within us." Out of nowhere, he pointed his index finger at one. "You! You are one of them! Right?" His expression was stiffened with a mixture of shock. On the other hand the one being pointed was equally shocked. He totally didn't expect that. It was as if he got betrayed.

"N-N...no..no… I'm..not" As he was mumbling simultaneously, his other friends took advantage of him and pretty much bulled him. Whether or not I should help him is not my concern. What took my interest was the younger monster being caught. They also mentioned that he was being held in the prison. Now, that I get the gasp of it, I was trying to understand things. The prison is not far away from here. Of I could drive a bit fast, I would reach there within a minutes. But I had a delivery. It would hamper my work schedule. If I could enter the prison, I might get a chance to confirm if that monster is Jodan. But by doing that would risk my life. There's a high chance that I might get caught doing that. Mr. Heriss didn't permit to do that. I can't just make such a risky move out of my own. What if there wasn't Jodan in there. This was also a possibility. I left the store, leaving the bullied kid to his misery.

If you want to up hold your head in front of others then FIGHT. The world is a place to fight not to live in fear and agony. Weaklings die, kid. That was my last advice to that kid. I don't know if he could understand my inner thoughts. The kid had become a being that he isn't. "You monster! Haha" "monster!" "Monster! Hahaha" the chuckling sound was irritating as ever. It went away as the automated door closed behind me. I got up one the truck and made my decision. As the engine made noise, I could hear the scream from inside the store. The kid had made his move. The dream filled with agony and pain. I glanced at the store but my glance reflected on me as the glass had turned into a mirror. The sound of punches, shattering stuffed from its place was heard clearly. With a big grin, I pressed the accelerator. "You did well, kiddo."
