Chapter 25 - A Gleam Of Corruption [2]

"Fine. I just get straight to the point. Have you seen anyone visiting the prisoner 45?" Asked Mr. Lukas with a straight face.

Yes, 45 is Renar's tag number. This is given to every prisoner.

"Sir, visiting third wand prisoner is forbidden by general people. You know that well than me." The guard said respectfully. or, should I say way too respectfully?

"Indeed, that is the case. But some individuals in this department have power enough to grant permission to outside persons. You know where I'm getting at. They can hold the taboo for a certain person." Negotiated MR. Lukas, his eyes were full of curiosity in it.

"umm.. sir…I don't really know about that..." He was backing off by MR. Lukas's argument. I could see a dark aura coming out of MR. Lukas's back and it was suppressing him.

"You were texting someone a while ago before we came. Right? I wonder if it was your wife…"

"Huh?" he was thrown out of his place by Mr. Lukas's words. He couldn't understand what Mr. Lukas was trying to say nether I get it.

"You have a beautiful wife and a daughter in the home. Then why are you texting some other woman. Let that slide out, Because it's your personal life. But then again in the middle of duty. That might go a little too far. What would happen if the seniors' officers get to know about it?"

This might be when he would break out and say anything he knows about. That is what we both expected but….

"haha… Mr. Lukas...You're funny. Do you think you can take my job out of me? Just complain about me to " He dropped his respectful tone.

I was dumbfoundedly watching them exchange. It was an uncertain battle of words. None of them want to back off.

"did I say that I would complain about you to seniors?" said MR. Lukas in a somewhat creepy manner. Wait he didn't say that---?

"Huh? Just Where are you getting at Mr. Lukas?

"I wonder, the internet is the best place to make you famous right Reyes?" Mr. Lukas faced me. I just couldn't help but shatter a little.

"umm…Yeah…Yeah"

"So, let's make him famous. That would be interesting to see. The whole world would get to know about how wonderful a person he is? Can you do it for me Reyes?"

Now, I get to understand where Mr. Lukas was getting at. If you get infamous on social media or any other platforms, you would certainly be in the center of all. For example, if the guard gets infamous for his texting in the middle of work or his scandals, he would probably never get any jobs. Because no one wanted to take someone so irresponsible.

The guard man who was before us knew it more or less. This time he backed up. His expression wasn't like someone proud who just got shattered.

"Sorry…Sir..Don't do it…I'll tell you all the things I know."

"hurry!" Mr. Lukas didn't feel any empathy towards him and forced him to speak out.

"The thing is a particular person came to visit prisoner 45. He was with Mr. Charles came with him. He told me to open the room and get the prisoner 45 to visit that particular person." He started flashing out the figure.

"Mr. Charles?" I spoke out loudly than I thought.

"Pile down, Reyes." Mr. Lukas ordered me as I was too loud. Or maybe this is top-secret information that shouldn't be lacked out.

"So, how's he looked like? Is he one of them?" Mr. Lukas questioned.

"On the outside, that didn't seem to be the case. He looked like a normal human, wearing a black suit."

As we investigated the guard, we get to learn about the crime that was occurring inside the department. The black-suited man met with Renar and left in 20 minutes. Somehow the CCTV footage was corrupted. We assumed that it might be the chef's doing as he's the head of the department.

"Sir! Shouldn't we do something about the corruption?" I respectfully said curiously.

Mr. Lukas made a small sigh that I could notice.

"You want to be a detective, right?" Rather than giving me an answer, he threw a question at me and it was an unusual one.

Umm, Yes, sir." Saying that I nodded to justify myself.

"Then how long can you be goofing around. Look, Reyes, A skilled detective's job is thinking rationally. Not overdrawn by emotions. Those who are driven by petty emotions always end up hurting themselves. My advice for you would be don't get to a conclusion quickly. Collect, observe, think and then get to the conclusion."

That's his way of telling the answer. He would never give a straight response instead he would tell me a rather large explanation so that I could find the desired answer that was hidden inside his words.

Oh, the true answer? It was something like "Stay Put" or "Don't interface with the police because it could harm your carrier".

The reason for telling me to stay quiet is as simple as water. I came here to do my intern. If I mess around with the head of the department, he could cancel my internship at any time. That's a piece of cake for him. Mr. Lukas might be a bit cold but he really cares for me and didn't want me to into unnecessary trouble.

"Where that Renar said he hide the diary? The location?"

Mr. Lukas faced me to get some info that I write in my notebook. I always carry a notebook just in case we find some evidence that needed to note down. I swiftly pulled out m leather, a small, handy, fifty-dollar notebook that was supposed to be sixty dollars but I got fifty because the owner of the shop's daughter was always doing major in my subject, Criminology. Anyway, I take a quick look at it to see the specific location Renar told us.

"Downtown, Junkyard, near Convivence store." I spell out the words that were written harshly in my notebook.

"Come with me." Saying that Mr. Lukas stepped onward. Seeing that I placed my notebook where it belonged and followed him hurriedly.
