Chereads / The Lost Witch Karli / Chapter 5 - New Year

Chapter 5 - New Year

In the first week of January of 2021 Justin came back claiming he had changed and wanted to come back and prove he was a better person, and swore off contact with Joan. Turns out he didn't change, and was caught red handed with her. Once again, he moved out, and was never allowed to return to the house. Karli was now working almost 30 hours a week and using her distractions to fight off her depression, while Dean was still going to doctors to get his disability, despite his illnesses trying to get in the way. Ivy was in a semi depressed state and managed go catch the flu, but pulling through like a champion with Dean and Karli as her "adoptive" kids always making game nights to keep her spirits up. The current dilemma was if they were going to be able to keep their home or if they had to move, due to the Pandemic Moratorium ending January 31st, 2021.

It had been a while since Karli had practiced her craft, and since it was a new year, she decided it was time to start again. She cleansed her Altar and her tools with Rose water. She charged her crystals and her Tarot cards in a full Lunar cycle and with her own energy. She lit her candle for her Matron Hel and her Patron Tyr. She cleansed her Sacred place  with sage and Vampire's Blood. She made herself a hot cup of Chia and Elderberry charged with intent of new beginnings and Hope and she invoked her circle to see how the new year would be.

Karli went straight to her Rune bag and did a basic draw of three. Perthro, Laguz, and Teiwaz. Perthro stands for destiny, luck, The Hidden, occult, and precognition. Laguz stands intuition, flow, emotions, life, magic, and Spiritual counsel.  Teiwaz stands for Tyr, respect, warrior, balance, leader, authority, and analytical. After analyzing her knowledge of the Runes, they tell her that Change is coming and even though the change is uncertain, to have fun and enjoy it. Healing will defiantly need to happen especially due to magical abilities coming into play. Strength will aid in this change, and will also protect against Evil during the battles that will come.

Next she went for her Tarot cards for clarity, and did a pull of 3 cards. Page of Swords, Five of Swords, and Ace of Swords. Page of Swords stands for thoughtful, curious, intellectual, writer, and student. Five of Swords stands for defeat, self-delight, arguments, irritability, and feeling attacked. Ace of Swords stands for realization, trust, intellect, clarity, and communication. The cards are letting her know that the truth will come out and risks will be taken to get to it. Current patterns are being repeated and they need to be changed to become strength. Use your head to overcome what battles lie ahead personal growth and focus will help you tremendously in order for change and opportunities to come your way.

After both readings she took some time to understand them. From what she gathered, a battle was brewing and much change, healing, truth, risks, and strength would be needed to overcome the new year. She thanked the elements for their guidance and clarity and wished them a goodnight uncasting her circle. She thanked Tyr and Hel for their support and wisdom and let snuffed out their candles leaving them cheez-its and Red Bull as their offerings next to their respective candles. Karli then washed her face, did a face mask, and put on her sweats and binge-watched Supernatural with Dean before bed.

Karli watched as the new Vice President and President was sworn in. All she could hope for was good change and a better year. One that would help everyone flourish and become better in a decent amount of time. She couldn't help but feel a dread start to form beside the hope that was there.  The world she grew up just kept changing and she wasn't sure if it was good or bad. She was 25 and had already been through so much.

Dean had managed to get in contact with Joe and rekindle their friendship. And after they hung out again, Dean, Karli, Joe, and Ivy all had to quarantine due to being in close contact with Lilah, she had managed to catch Covid. For Dean and Karli it ended up being a financial pain in the ass because now Karli had to fight harder to get her unemployment sorted out. And her fight just kept being drawn out by having to do things online instead of in person. She had been fighting since November of 2020 because her hours had been cut greatly. She would have been working 60 plus hours every 2 weeks, but she only ended up working 20 to 24 hours every 2 weeks which was only enough help to pay bills.

The dread she had felt came in the form of a phone call on Saturday,  January 23rd, 2021. Karli's Aunt Rachelle got ahold of her telling her that her Aunt Dawn's battle with cancer was over. What started out as Colon cancer had finally spread to her brain and bones. And she faded quickly despite her fight. And due to be quarantined Karli was unable to attend the funeral Wednesday, January 27th. And it was eating Karli alive. The family found out about Dawn's cancer shortly after the Death of Karli's Grandmother, Joyce on July 29th, 2018. Karli had now lost her Grandmother, Mother, and now an Aunt in the span of 4 Years. Exactly a Year and 3 months between each Death.

The pandemic moratorium was now until September, so Karli and Dean started nesting a bit more. Karli was putting up her pop figurines and other nick knacks up on display to feel more homey. Dean was also cleaning up and helping display things. She was trying to use the time she had to be productive despite being even more depressed. She tried to devote her time to writing, crochet, gaming, spending time with Chuy and Dean, and house work. Needless to say their part of the house would be spotless by the time quarantine is over. It still didn't help Karli feel any better though, and she was struggling with her depression. She managed to sleep a lot and hated it. She slept almost until 3 pm every day and it had only been 3 days since the call.
