Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Morgin P.O.V. 1st person

I returned from the markets. From the other side of the room I saw (y/n) as our Lord went to beat her for her mistake. I let out a sigh, quietly so no one would hear, and continued my work. Whenever he hurt her I felt something. I couldn't tell what this feeling was, but I had to ignore it. It was not my fault she was here, and either way, there is nothing we can do to escape this. There's no hope of freedom for slaves. As he begins to touch her, I look away. A tinge of... jealousy? Hate? Concern? No matter, I can't stop him from doing as he pleases. 'Tch'. After he lets her go I help her clean up the mess, and support her on our way back to the kitchen. Back to work we go, but I can't get it off my mind. It's the way he's been looking at her. The increased looking for fault in her.

"Hey, you okay?" I whisper to her, just enough so she can hear. She just nods, letting me know she's not but to not ask about it. I return the favor, nodding that is, as we continue the work in peace and quiet. But despite all the rough patches of being a slave, and there were many, when I was by her side it felt okay. Like it was worth it. I wasn't making sense to myself, rubbing off the thought. I felt like I was meant to be a slave so she could have someone to watch over her. After all, we were just objects to everyone but ourselves. To each other. Even though we often deceived ourselves on the matter.

As the night went on the sky grew dark, but no one halted their work until it was finished to his perfection. "It's getting late, you should get some rest. I'll clean up." She didn't reply but rushed off to one of the rooms we all slept in. The groups dispersed, and I checked to make sure everything was finished.

I headed down the hall and towards the rooms, but I noticed the familiar girl passing me. "(y/n), you're still up?" I asked, it had been maybe an hour since I told her to head on to bed.

"Yura came and asked me to see our lord," she spoke hastily, trying to push past me. What was the rush? But I knew what it was. Though neither of us knew what this meant.

"Oh, okay..." I nod, nervous, wondering what torment and work he could put her through for a night such as this.

"I better get going," she told me. Her arm crossed across her chest, eyes drooping to the floor as they purposefully avoided my gaze. But her shy expression was beautiful.

"Yeah.." I replied. She brushed my side, shoving me a little to the side as she tried to get past me. I watched her go as I was overwhelmed by feelings I didn't dare show but couldn't label either. Had I really lost so much touch with myself? Had she and the others too? I had to let go of the thought. It didn't matter. I had to return to my work. I needed to let her go; it wasn't good for me to feel like this. No slave should hope. It wasn't real after all.
