Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 - A Demon

Leonardo

I had a tight grasp on Juliana's father pulled my fist back to connect another blow to him when Peter grabbed my arm.

"Hey, I'll take care of him. She needs you." Peter didn't wait for my response he simply grabbed her father from me and teleported. I took a few deep breaths and looked around the forest. I almost missed her hiding behind a bush.

"Juliana." I sighed I didn't know what to say to her. I didn't know if she was scared of her father or what I became. I only heard sniffling so I continued. "Sweetheart, please come out. I won't hurt you. I just want to make sure you're okay." The silence that fell after was unbearable. The only thing I could focus on was her quite sobbing, it was breaking my heart. I finally decided to walk closer to her. I sat on the ground maybe one meter from her. "I promise it is just you and me here. Peter took your father."

She was eyeing me and I could tell she was looking to see if I still had my claws, red eyes, and fangs. She slowly inched towards me and I took her into my arms allowing her to sit in my lap and cry into my chest while I just held her. I hadn't realized I was holding my breath until I knew she wasn't scared of me. I simply just looked at her and examined all the areas of her body I could see from the welts and bruises that were caused by her father. I was looking at her dress and it was torn and it infuriated me more to think that the person who caused her this pain was her father. The person who was suppose to protect her. But it was my fault for not taking her from her father last night. I ultimately failed her and I know I will never let anything hurt her again.

Juliana

I was sitting there looking at the man I front of me and he looked nothing of the man that I had just seen. He was back to his normal golden eyes self. There were no longer claws and the fangs that had once rested on his bottom lip were now gone. Instead I saw a worried man who desperately just wanted to comfort me. There was a long moment of silence and I finally decided it was safe for me to go to him. I felt him instantly relax as soon as I was in his arms. He simply held me while I cried helplessly into his shirt and I'm pretty sure my tears were staining it.

I finally looked up from his chest and into his eyes, "can you take me to my hiding spot?"

"Of course, but I you need to tell me how to get there." He said while moving the stray hairs out of my face. I know I just saw him as a demon but something in my gut told me that I could trust him. He gracefully stood up with me in his arms.

"Well the entrance is at the base of the waterfall..." I said slightly looking down. I am a bit nervous to see how he would get up there.

"Hmmm, I could teleport up to the bottom, but I don't want to startle you." He said softly while walking us to the edge of the cliff. I looked up to see him eyeing how far the jump would be. I gripped my hands around his neck tighter and shook me head.

"Please don't jump." I said my voice a little shaky. "I would rather teleport." He simply nodded and I squeezed my eyes tightly together and before I knew it we were at the base of the waterfall. I heard his soft chuckling and opened my eyes. I released the breath I was holding.

"We need to walk behind the waterfall and then there will be a door." He walked us to the base and he raised an eyebrow but the moment we were close to the base the water cleared making the path visible. He walked us about halfway down the path when he noticed a door. He let me down and I push the door. He signed and furrowed his eyes.

"This is just an empty room." He said crossing his arms. "Let me take you to the palace where it is warm and get you some new clothes." I left him there and walked in and went to the wardrobe.

"You're welcome to come in! I know this empty room is nothing compared to your big palace." I said glancing up at him seeing his mouth was slightly open. He walked in and closed the door behind him.

"But how? I just saw the... you're a witch!" He said shocked. He began looking around the room.

"Honestly I don't know what I am." I told him while motioning for him to turn around so I could change out of my torn dress. He rolled his eyes but complied.

"The room only showed it's true identity when you walked in. That means you're a witch." He said it as if it wasn't a big deal. As if I was just another person. Well now that I think about it.. he was.. I don't know exactly what he was.

"What are you going to do to him?" I asked struggling to tie the dress. I was hoping he wouldn't torture him or worse kill my father. He must have noticed I was struggling and turned to help me.

"I haven't decided yet. What do you think I should do?" I looked at him puzzled. I wasn't expecting him to ask me. I stood there for a moment looking at the ground.

"I don't think you should punish him." He had finished tying the dress and I turned to see a grimace on his face. I quickly continued before he spoke. "Has he made some mistakes? Yes. I am not saying I will live with him again. I am saying he is human and deserves another chance." I saw him press his lips I to a thin line and look away looking past me towards the bookshelves.

"I think he needs some kind of consequence for hurting you." He said scratching the back of his head. I didn't want my father to suffer the way I did. I didn't want to know that it was because of me he is being punished. I shook my head and headed to fold the blanket to sit on the couch. I signed heavily as I sat down. I didn't have the energy to argue with him about the situation so I just dropped it and hoped he didn't pick it back up.

Leo seemed to have sensed my mood and he began exploring the shelves of books. I haven't had much time to look at all the other books. I have solely been focusing on our families spell book trying to figure out how this witch thing worked.

"So, what are you?" I asked scared to make eye contact with him.

Leo side eyed me and a smile tugged the corner of his mouth. "Well I am what they call a demon." He said making eye contact with me while approaching the lectern.

"So you are the Devil?" I stood up and went to him.

He chuckled and chills ran down my back. "No, I am just a demon."
