Arthur stood before a tall jackal God with a calm face while drinking tea from the cup. He didn't know why this God had summoned him but one thing was sure and that was he wasn't an enemy. He was more like a friendly neutral God than an enemy like Ammit.
" I heard a lot about you, the consort of the goddess of death and the greatest champion of humans. You are quite an infamous person in our circle."
Arthur laughed dryly at his words, not knowing what to do in this situation because, unlike his imagination, Anubis was a calm God who behaved more like Odin but there was one thing different in their essence.
He had that fire in his eyes which was filled with ambition but unlike most, he didn't show it outside.
" I heard you are having trouble with my fellow God and your friend is on my boat. Thus, I thought you might need my assistance."
Arthur raised his eyebrows at his calm remark, thinking he must have something ulterior in his mind because, like devils, God required something in exchange when they offered you help.
" I need just a simple assistance against some gods in exchange for my help. You will help me in the future for his soul."
Anubis calmly spoke while rowing the boat with his arms. The endless stream of the stars flickered across the sky while the endless desert loomed underneath their boat. It was both breathtaking and terrifying for the most because even the greatest would have to face death and they would be powerless against it.
" I don't help the wicked deed. If you are saying that to me, I have to resolutely refuse even if it is my friend's life because I will save both the world and him for it is my way."
Anubis laughed at his words while letting go of the rows. He rose from his seat while putting his hands behind his back.
" You are brave for a man. Even my father and grandfather would have to think twice before telling me something like this but you did it like we are equal despite you being a soul which destroys the balance.
Tell me, Arthur. Why should I let you go? Your soul will be an invaluable asset because you are already half dead."
Arthur wasn't fazed at his threat, believing in his worth since he was technically a herald of death during his life. He made a contract with her to balance the universe and she wouldn't allow someone to touch her toy even if he or she was her avatar.
" You wouldn't do that. I know you are far smarter than most of the gods and I know you see Ammit in a negative light."
Anubis didn't retort his words at all while smiling with his sharp teeth. His cold eyes turned crescent at his answer as he exhaled with satisfaction on his face. The divine energy was dispersed from the air while Anubis opened a gate to the human world.
" Your friend will come back because that is his destiny. His time for death is yet to come and I believe you can give me a soul."
Arthur understood his words while putting the cup on the boat. His blue eyes were looking at the God as the latter also looked at him.
" I will personally deliver Ammit's soul to you along with Arthur Harrow in exchange for your words. Furthermore, I want you to stop Khonshu if he tries to step back from his oath."
Anubis grinned at his words, extending his hand toward him with a friendly gesture. A firm handshake was all needed for their agreement and they parted away just like that.
Meanwhile in Duat
Steven hit the board with a fist while looking at the desert.
" Damn it! It should have been me. Why does he have to die? Why am I allowed to go?"
Taweret didn't say anything except looking at him with pity. Perhaps, this was also his fate for he was cursed with the misfortune of suffering, even death couldn't erase this as he lost his other self.
" We are here, Marc. This is the gate."
Marc looked at the looming gate with a serious face, knowing it was time to decide.
