Steven opened his eyes with dizziness, feeling heavy around his body but he managed to lift his powerless body, looking around himself with a calm face.
In the end, he died from the bullet which was ironic because he believed he wouldn't die of a gunshot, yet in his desperate time, he died of it. Fortunately, he was finally free of that damned God who used him like a puppet.
" Now, where am I?"
He didn't know where he was except to see these Egyptian items in the room, so he believed he might be on his way to heaven.
" Ah, you are awake, Mr. Grant. You are such a peculiar person. It is my first time seeing a human who had multiple souls."
A giant hippo appeared in front of him which made him shriek with a woman's voice. He quickly ran toward the door but there was a silhouette standing in front of them.
Thud*
" Ouch! What the heck?"
He looked at the silhouette and recognized who he was since he looked like him.
" Marc? How did you get here?"
Before Marc could open his mouth, the giant hippo grabbed them and placed them on the chairs like children. She then took out some snacks from the furniture while munching on it.
" Hello. My name is Taweret and as you can see I am a goddess who guides the souls to afterlife which means you are dead. Our journey will take a little bit of time, so you can relax a bit if you want to but I have to weigh your hearts."
Steven gulped when he heard her words, knowing what would happen if they failed in the end. Like many religions, Egyptian mythology has purgatory and it was called Duat where people would spend eternity being stuck in the sand. They wouldn't be able to move or talk, just looking at the sky and the desert forever. This was damnation for the sinned who would reduce to mere grain of sand in infinity.
" Now then, Marc and Steven. Please follow me to the hull and I will weigh your hearts there."
After saying that she gestured for them to follow her from behind. The duo looked at each other with a helpless face, thinking there was no way to escape from there.
"Although I am a goddess, I really liked your heroic adventure and I believe you will go to the afterlife. It is hard to find good people like you."
Taweret chattered like a machine gun while explaining things to Steven whom she thought wise because he could have a conversation with her like other gods.
Finally, they reached the front hull of the ship while Taweret pointed at the golden scale in the middle of the ship.
" This is the scale that will weigh your skill and decide whether you will stay on my ship or not. Don't worry, I know you will make it."
Marc dodged her smile with a blank face, imagining what would happen to him if he scaled his soul. Probably he would be chased out from the ship since he killed tens or hundreds of people.
" Don't worry, Marc. If your intent was fair, the scale won't tilt."
Taweret understood his heart, smiling with a soft face but Marc was having a bad vibe like something bad was going to happen to him due to his excessive misfortune. Throughout his entire life, he never had peace and he would always be in trouble.
" Then I will go first."
Steven took a deep breath to calm down while taking a step toward Taweret who just put her hand inside Steven like it was nothing.
The funny and awful feeling hit Steven same time as he saw his heart being pulled out from his chest.
" Okay, then. Let's weigh it. Oh, I am so excited after a long time."
The feather fell into the opposite side of his heart while his heart was held on the other side. The crackling sound of scales flared his nerves up as he gulped with a pale face.
" Ah, yes. You are indeed worthy."
The scales were perfectly balanced under her eyes while Taweret clapped her hands with excitement.
" Now it is your turn, Marc Spector."
Marc felt immense pressure on his shoulders, knowing this was his final stop.
