Chapter 53 - Life Detection Spell
After Avery and Yue briefed the elven troops about the expedition, they then quickly prepared all the supplies and equipment that they needed for this expedition.
Half an hour later, the elven troops were now orderly standing in front of the entrance of the village with the supplies for their expedition.
Avery, Yue, Estel, and Lia were at the very front looking at the troops.
After verifying and making sure that everything was good to go, they then went in the direction of the forest.
As they were exploring, Avery activated a spell that he knew from the past timeline.
A small transparent white cube floated on top of his right hand. Inside the cube, a misty golden substance flowed stably.
Seeing the magic that her big brother performed, Yue's eyes shined in excitement and curiosity.
"Wow! What spell is that big brother!" Yue said excitedly.
Avery smiled and replied, "It's a spell that detects life at a wide range, I configured it to help me find what I am looking for."
Avery then explained the details of how the spell was done. He added a bit of theory and how the spell particularly worked.
"Hmm… sounds like a Tier 2 magic."
"Cause it is a Tier 2 magic."
"Then how can big brother use it? As far as I know, big brother is only Tier 1."
"Well.. from what I know, this spell was supposed to be a Tier 1 magic but the control required to cast it pushed it to Tier 2."
"So the spell only had a Tier 1 mana requirement but required a Tier 2 mana control… does that mean that big brother bypassed the system?"
"Basically, yes."
Normally, a person's control increases as their Tier increases, but there are exceptions where their control was higher than what their Tier dictates.
For Avery, he already had a high degree of mana control after using and being in contact with it for a thousand-year in his past timeline. So it is no wonder that he was able to cast the spell easily and bypass the system.
"Big brother is amazing!" Her eyes shined as she admiringly looked at Avery.
"Hehe… o-of course you big brother is amazing," Avery said as he quickly looked to the side with a straight face. Though if one looked closely, his face was slightly red.
'C-Cute.' He thought as he remembered the look his sister gave him.
His subordinates in his past life would be dumbfounded when they see their emperor acting like this.
The cold and strict leader who led countless wars and brought them to victory. The same leader who rejected and dismissed countless beauties even at the expense of war was now blushing after a small praise given by his precious little sister.
Those people would have surely slammed their heads into a table after finding this side of their emperor.
And of course, no one other than his sister could bring out such a side of him.
Thus with the use of the spell that was configured to detect a specific animal, Avery, Yue, and the expedition force explored parts of the forest that they have not been to before.
Over the past few hours, they did not find any intelligent species aside from some wild animals that they quickly dispatched.
They did encounter one elemental beast during their travel.
Its level was higher than the average level of the expedition force. Though it was quickly dispatched with the combined lead of Avery and Yue, plus the magic capability of the expedition force.
Avery simply took the silver coins and magic core of the carcass before ordering the expedition force to incinerate the body since it was simply too damaged from the battle to be of use.
They continued their expedition, with the spell not reacting at all since it was configured to a type of animal that Avery was looking for.
After not finding anything, Yue decided to ask what specifically they were looking for. She knew that they were looking for a mount to equip their cavalry with, but she did not know what specific mount.
"Hmm… I configured the spell to look for something that can cast magic." Avery replied after being inquired by Yue.
"A horse that can cast magic!" Yue asked in amazement.
"Not only a horse but any ridable animal that can cast magic."
"Then why did that elemental beast that we encountered a while ago not react to the spell? It did use some spells when we fought it." Yue said as she looked at the spell that was still floating in Avery's hand.
"Good question. Normally, this spell is only supposed to only detect life capable of magic. However, I configured it to only detect a specific type of life… " Avery said and explained to his sister.
His explanation looked simple, but the configuration that he did was very difficult. He had to have lots of knowledge on the subject and at the same time have a very high degree of mana control to be able to will his magic to do what he wants.
He was able to do this since he dabbled a lot in life and spirit magic in his past timeline. He wanted to find a way to revive his sister, so he was able to acquire a lot of knowledge in those fields along the way.
Avery and Yue continued to march into the forest as they discussed the spell together with the small expedition force trailing behind them.
As they were discussing, the cube in Avery's hand started rotating in a particular direction while the mist inside it started swirling.
Avery halted, forcing the others to stop moving.
"Did it find something big brother?" Yue asked as she stared at the cube excitedly.
Avery smiled excitedly like his sister as it seems that the cube detected what he was looking for. "Yes. We finally found one that has all the specifications I configured into the spell."
At the very start, when he saw that the area surrounding his village has a high density of mana, he knew that there was a high chance that a mount capable of magic or infused with magic is living in the area.
The fact that they encountered a wild animal infused with an element a while ago just made him confident in his speculation more.
And so after signaling his army they then all marched towards the direction the spell pointed.
After running for a while, Avery signaled them to stop as he found some tracks on the ground.
Avery and Yue started to frown as they gazed at the footprints on the ground.
"Big brother isn't that–"
"Goblins." Avery completed her sentence.
