War, betrayal, the desire for dominance. These are all things that the gods were known for, and also the reasons why some mortals hated them.
But even with their hatred, they wouldn't dare anger the gods. All mortals but one. This person was someone who enjoyed playing tricks on others, he is what you would call a natural born trickster and he was about to attempt something that very few have done, stealing from a god.
This trickster's name was Reynard The Fox.
"Reynard, are you crazy! Trying to steal from a god, how stupid are you, your gonna get yourself killed" said Ronin.
"No I won't" said Reynard, replying with a cocky look on his face.
"I'll be fine I can do it, I've already made a plan for this and besides it'll be fun."
While this response was meant to reassure him it only made Ronin even angrier. He began pacing around in anger as he prepared his response.
"Cause it's fun, you say?"
Instantly without a second thought, Ronin lunged towards Reynard in his face, so close that Reynard could even see the thin black hairs sticking out of his nose.
Pissed about Reynard's response, Ronin lost it, "CAUSE IT'S FUN!?! So, you want to risk your life because it's fun, because of the thrill? Well you know what, I don't want any part of this, so if you wanna get killed, leave me out of it." With this he stormed out of Reynard's home.
"That bastard, I don't need his help anyway."
Reynard knew he was gonna go through with his plan, whether he had help or not. But unknown to Ronin, who had already left, Reynard wasn't only doing this for the thrill, there was something he actually wanted. But the trickiest about Reynard's plan isn't exactly what the item is, it's who it belongs to.
Not only does the item belong to a god, they're also a trickster just like Reynard. The God of Mischief, Loki. The fact that it was Loki meant that Reynard would have to put in way more than an average amount of effort, because everyone knows that Loki rarely shows mercy, so if Reynard wants to make it out alive, he can't slip up.
"I can do this" Reynard whispered to himself, "I can do this, I can't slip up."
The sun rose with birds cawing signaling morning, Reynard had spent the night reviewing his plan over and over again and preparing everything he needed and was ready to take off. When he walked out of his door, he was surprised as to who he saw. It was none other than Ronin with his usual outfit of a black jacket and pants along with boots, his hair in a man bun, and his sword on his waist.
"What do you want?" said Reynard in an irritated voice. "I thought you didn't want anything to do with this."
Ronin took a sigh before talking back, "I'm sorry about yesterday, I got a little carried away. But I'm going to ask one more time, are you really going to do this Reynard?"
At this point Ronin wasn't even mad anymore, he just wanted to stop Reynard before he got himself killed.
It was a brief silence before Reynard answered. "Of course I'm gonna do this, and before you say anything else, there is nothing you can do that will change my mind."
"Fine, I won't try to stop you any more, but you have to promise me one thing Reynard, that you'll come back alive, cause I'm not really in the mood to lose someone that I consider a brother."
With a smirk on his face Reynard said,
"Of course I'll come back, who do you think I am."
"That cocky attitude will prove to be the downfall of you one day, Reynard."
"Yea, yea, whatever."
"Oh, and one more thing Reynard."
"Yea? What is it"
The atmosphere suddenly got darker as Ronin was about to give Reynard a final warning.
"Don't, and I mean DON'T, try to fight Loki."
"You may think your a pretty good illusionist with your magic, but Loki is on a completely different level. If you run into him, run immediately, unless you wanna die."
After giving his final warning Ronin wished wished Reynard luck and left. This warning made Reynard a little nervous, so he went back inside and went over his plan a couple more times
After reviewing and going over his plan a few more times Reynard left his home.
He was now ready to enter Loki's castle.
When Reynard first decided to steal from Loki the first thing he did was study Loki's castle. After research and finding all the possible entrances and exits, Reynard came to the conclusion that it was almost impossible to get in without being noticed.
But then, favor leaned towards Reynard when he was able to find an underground tunnel a couple meters out from the castle that led to a hidden entrance. While this hidden entrance was still guarded, it was only being guarded by a couple goblins, who tend to be oblivious against illusion magic. This was Reynard's one ticket inside the castle.
Reynard made it to the entrance of the of tunnel leading to the hidden entrance.
*humph*
Reynard jumped down into the tunnel. He peaked over the corner onto the path leading to the entrance. Just like he saw the first time, it was still being guarded by the goblins, but for some reason there were less goblins than he had remembered the first time he found this tunnel.
"Well, less goblins means it'll be even easier getting in."
Reynard whispered to himself and activated a spell.
*Illusion Magic-Hidden Cloak*
He was trying to avoid as many fights as possible and this was the best way to do it.
Reynard began tip toeing around the goblins.
A lot of people underestimate goblins because of their lack of intelligence, but they actually have enormous strength. Reynard knew this all too well, which is one of the main reasons he chose this cloak method.
But as he was nearing the door into the castle,
*SMACK*
Out of nowhere something smacked Reynard and sent him crashing into a wall on the right of him.
"Damn, what hell was that?", Reynard said to himself as he got up.
As he was getting up, Reynard felt a presence in front of him.
"What is this presence, it can't be goblin right? There shouldn't be any goblins in this day and age that have magic."
Reynard lifted his head up to see who or what it was that had hit him, and to his surprise it was a goblin. But this was no ordinary Goblin, because while they do have amazing strength and skill with weapons, they almost never ever have any magic, and it's been thousands of years since the last time that a goblin has had magic. But this Goblin in front of Reynard had amazing body reinforcement magic, probably on par or a little stronger than his own.
Reynard knew he was in trouble after encountering this goblin, but there was no backing out now.
"Shit, this is gonna be more difficult than I thought."
