Jessica dodged a fireball, feeling the scorching heat barely touching her calves. She held her metal baseball bat and looked at her opponent. It was an ability user and one that didn't mind smelling burnt human flesh.
She clenched her teeth and a drop of sweat rolled down her face. Just 5 minutes of fighting against the heat felt like she was in a sauna. Her bat wasn't doing her any favors either. The heat radiating from each fireball slowly rose the temperature of the bat, making it uncomfortable for her to hold it for long durations. But a wooden bat wasn't any better; it was free kindling for the flames.
The unequal amount of power between them proved to only increase the longer the fight lasted. With each dodge, Jessica cursed how she wasn't a cool ability user like Maria. At least Maria could fight fire with fire. What was she supposed to do? Burn her hands off before her body next?
