Death? Death was a scary word. It imbued most if not all of life's sadness and misery. All things come to a final stop at death so it couldn't be helped that people held fearful feelings towards it.
The same would apply for Avina and the rest. Upon hearing his threat, a change in their expression appeared. They were more wary of his actions, fearing that an unavoidable action would provoke the end for them.
"You really should give up," Jasper said with pity. He looked at us as if the outcome had already been decided. "You can't defeat me."
Avina controlled herself from rolling her eyes. If he wasn't setting flags for himself, what was he doing? What villain didn't say this before meeting their defeat?
