Like a coat, the darkness covered those wretched, rotting bodies. The only indicators they were even there to begin with were the occasional glimpse of yellow pupils or the low moans escaping their mouths. Their footsteps sounded nothing less than a wet sponge soggingly stamping the grounds before lifting up in a puckering fashion.
We stood still and continued to wait for their arrival, patiently. No one spoke a word, continuing to listen to the sounds coming for them. Our breathes were hitched in the middle of our throat and a stiff swallow could be heard repeating between them.
"On the count of three," Joseph whispered. He held the bat firmly in his hands and slowly lifted it in the air, pointing it towards the zombies. "Shine a light, Maria."
