"GAHHH!" Shirogane gasped when the man walked through the building wall.
He wore a business suit and had his hair combed back. He threw the cigarette butt onto the ground and stepped on it, a few sparks jumped out (find the word). He carried a briefcase and wore pointed oxfords (the name for business shoes).
"Wh- who are you?" Shiro asked, hugging himself and taking a step back.
"Me? Hm… let's say…" The older man contemplated, putting his index finger on his chin. "I'm the grim reaper." He continued as he leaned in.
"Wait… I can see your face" Shirogane said, poking the other guy's cheek. "Grim… reaper… CRAP?!?" He dashed off.
Although Shiro doesn't know much about the spirit realm, it was common knowledge for anyone. Grim reapers are those who collect souls. This bit he heard from his sister, grim reapers make the person whom they are to collect the souls from getting involved in an accident just for soul harvesting.
'nee-San always said "notice and observe small details in people. It will be useful in the right situation.'
'Ok! He has a briefcase, walked through the wall… what else' Shiro was torn out of his thoughts because a familiar face was staring right at him but was following him.
"What's up with ya? It's rude to run away while a perso-" The grim reaper who ran next to Shiro said but got punched by Shiro after he was surprised that he was next to him.
"Oops…"
"Ouchie! man, that was the first time in a while that I have ever gotten hit by someone. Let alone a human." He said rubbing his nose. "Shaman blood really does run in you."
"Ah, sorry- Wait… DID I JUST PUNCH A SPIRIT IN THE FACE?!?!" Shiro screamed in shock.
"Jeez, you are more worried about punching a spirit in the face more than the spirit himself who's in pain. A total piece of work." He said getting off the floor in pain.
"Haha" Shiro laughed as he helped the older-looking man get up.
The cool breeze passed by them allowing Shiro to breathe in the musty but fresh air. Many lights were switched on but nobody was on the road. The two of them walked along the cold, narrow road. The chirping crickets, purring cats, and barking dogs were the only things heard by the two.
"Soooo... ?" Shiro tried his best to break the silence cause he really wanted to go home since the taller guy was being way too awkward.
"So what?" He replied, still following Shiro.
"Why are you following meeeeee?" Shiro started speed walking which the grim reaper easily copied. "Staaaaap."
"I need to get you home safely."
"I am NOT a little girl! I can handle things by myself! OK?" He whispered a scream.
"It doesn't matter to me. I need to see it that you reach your house without a scratch on your finger." He said in a firm tone.
"Ugh! Who told you to do so!? Also, Can't you at least fly us there? It's way safer… probably..." Shiro crossed his arms, pouting.
"Well since you are cute I'll consider it." He replied with a wide toothy grin that made Shiro think that if he'd been a human, Mr. Grim reaper would have been very popular.
'Well damn, so he can smile?' Shiro stared at the other man.
"Are you ready, Master Shirogane?" Mr. Grim reaper said, putting his hands under Shiro, ready to fly.
"Wha- wait- woahhh" Shiro said in surprise as they took off the ground.
They were high enough to see all the colorful lights that were switched on in that street. After a confirmation to start flying from Shiro, the grim reaper held him tightly and flew slowly before he began to pick up speed.
"Hey kid, wanna see something super cool?"
"Sure! I mean this is cool enough though."
The grim reaper gave out his smile before he touched Shiro's forehead and then threw him up into the sky. Kousaki screamed his lungs out. His stomach churned and it felt as if it was floating. It was then he realized that he was floating in mid-air without falling.
"So whatcha think?" Mr. Reaper said, floating up to Shiro. His smile was wider than before.
"GIMME A WARNING NEXT TIME!? Jeez, I thought my heart was going to come out." Shiro yelled, levitating around in one place.
"On to the next surprise!" He said ignoring Shiro.
The Grim reaper shut his eyes tightly and put out his right hand. A sparkly circle formed around it and within two blinks of an eye humongous gun that was way bigger than the grim reaper himself appeared. Then he reached into his back pocket and took out what looked like his goggles. Putting them on he posed with his gun.
"Whatcha think?"
"Woahhhhh, It's a… what is it?" Shiro asked, examining the gun. "Also can you let me fly around? I wanna move about."
"It's my paintball marker! Like how can you not know that." He replied with a sigh.
"Ooooh, what do you do with it?" Shiro asked with a lot of curiosity
"I aim at my target, the soul I'm supposed to collect, then I shoot. The person doesn't die by that but by an accident. Sometimes they die immediately." He replied proudly.
"That's so cool! So you do have any wings or anything?"
"I'm a grim reaper not the angel of death~"
"What's the difference?"
"I reside in the human world, sending all the souls that I collect to the angel of death who lives in the place that separates the living from the hereafter or you can say it as a phase happening between death and resurrection." He said touching Shiro's forehead for the second time but this time with his index and middle finger.
"Woah- This is kinda fun~"
"It is~," He said while allowing Shiro some time to get used to flying. "Shall we go?"
The wet, forsaken streets of the city rested in stillness as the starry black sky sobbed over it. The water in the peepholes glistened by the radiance of the brilliant, yellow street lamps. Immense colossal buildings occupied beside the street, quiet as if taken over by an army of libraries.
Some windows gave out a white and yellow glow, but the others were pitch black. It appeared like the clouds had gotten an immediate attraction with the moon and shrouded themselves around it. The moon's soothing glow crossed by them, coloring them white from grey.
"So, Mr. reaper… Do you… have a name?" Shiro asked as if he was scared to hurt the other man's feelings of not having a name.
"Well… don't since there is no use of me having a name. I'm a grim reaper and that's all to it." He replied without losing his smile.
"So you're cool with me calling you Mr. Reaper?"
"Of course, master Shirogane."
"Seriously though, what with the 'MaStEr ShIrOgAnE'?" Shiro mimicked the reaper's voice.
"I do NOT sound like that." He pouted. Earning a laugh from Shiro
"You know it's weird… I feel comfortable with you." Shiro chuckled. " I usually get re~ally awkward with people."
"Is that so? Glad you are comfortable with me."
"So! Where to now?"
