The Great Lancaster Kingdom.
Ninth Province, Ayes County.
A boy laid flat on a plot of grass as his hair covered his vision. The swishing of the grass hinted at the present breeze. The clouds were numerous and looming close to the ground, yet they just barely hindered the sun's warm rays.
The youth's face was illuminated by a consistent ray of light. He was given strong features that were pleasant to the eyes. Even with half his face covered, it could be seen that he had promising characteristics. His hair was colored ash-burn grey which was unusual for a boy his age. Even the adults in the city did not have hair graying to this extent. Whenever he opened his eyes, wisdom beyond imaginable could be shown. He had a gaze normal children could not have.
Wisdom.
To decide a course of action that many would agree was a good judgment. The boy, Bale, rarely got in trouble. It was as if he knew what would get him in trouble. He never succumbed to his child instincts.
The thing was, Bale did not always use to be like that. Starting from a certain day, Bale stopped being a boy. There was no traumatic event that could justify it either. It was a sudden change that caught everyone in his area of the city off-guard. He unsettled them enough to fund a visit to a Priest.
In this world, beasts of all kinds roamed the earth, feasting on the unsuspecting commoners. Humans had biologically adapted ways that could spot changes. Natural disasters followed those who ignored signs that something was not well. A spontaneous change in personality could mean that your fellow loved one was possessed and that you needed to head to the Phantoms and poltergeists were common in these parts.
A Priest is someone high in class and ability. They not only had to awaken the Light Element, but they also had to gain the approval of Sol, the Lord of Light. To book a visit to even the most mediocre of Priests was above the abilities of Bale's family. It was only when the surrounding commoners chipped in did Bale's family have enough to travel to the nearest Sanctum.
Yet the trip yielded nothing. No traces of the dark arts could be seen present in Bale's body. Bale did not react strongly to the Priest's purifying ceremonies either. But even then, that was enough for the city to not ostracize the family.
The Ayes County of Ninth Province were simple folk. Their trust in the Sanctum was as high as could be. Their early ancestors were only able to survive because they depended on the Sanctum. This tradition of reverence towards the Sanctum was passed on to this generation.
And due to the close bond between the Sanctum and the Ayes County, the Ninth Province became the leading Light-Elementalist producers in the Lancaster Kingdom. Due to the nature of the Light Element, the Lancaster Kingdom placed heavy emphasis on the County. This allowed those from the Ninth Province to lead happy lives which in turn allowed for more reproduction which made a positive feedback altogether. This cycle was a format that many other kingdoms copied from the Lancaster Ministry.
Therefore, even orphans lived happy lives much less Bale who had two working parents.
'Life is so much better here.' Bale thought as continued his morning routine. Relax in the morning. Relax in the Afternoon. Help with the farm. Sleep in the night.
Bale felt a euphoria living in this backwater society. Even if demons and Magic Creatures were roaming about, the Ayes County was protected by both the Sanctum and the Kingdom. Every major problem was solved by either the Sanctum Crusaders or the Kingdom's Knights. He essentially faced no problems. The Ninth Province also happened to be in an area where agriculture could be made easily therefore no one was majorly starving.
Of course, this type of environment was rare even in the Lancaster Kingdom. Other provinces had homelessness and famine as often as the weather changed. Places without adequate protection were usually on the brink of extinction at every turn. Bale knew this and cherished this place more because of it. He felt lucky to have been transmigrated into this area.
Bale also no longer had to work 80 hours a week to afford basic living wages anymore. His entire consciousness was no longer guilty at relaxing instead of being productive because in this society, people were not forced to slave away for corporations. The farmers, the maids, the butlers all had adequate unions that allowed for a more relaxed and happier workforce. This was the case in Ninth Province's Ayes County. The only other place in the Lancaster Kingdom that could rival the number of happy citizens would only be the Capital.
Bale even considered being a farmer and living out the rest of his days because of the unions. Maybe if he felt energized, he would help further the kingdom's agricultural accomplishments. Maybe even use that money to set up charities to help those who faced crop failures.
Ah, the life he wants to pursue is one of dedication and physical effort with little to no consequences of failure. Is that so much to ask for nowadays?
A screen immediately popped up in front of Bale as he was relaxing. The annoying presence of a DING disturbed his rest. Bale's relaxed face morphed into one that was uncomfortable. The Ding resounded in his head as it tore up the fields he planted in his head. An earthquake destroyed his large barn and lightning scorched his fertile dirt.
Bale opened his eyes with hate spurting through them. He turned to look at the notification that popped up.
[Daily Roll Available, would you like to spin] [Y | N]
Bale waved his hand and haphazardly selected Yes. His attitude was reflected in his action.
[Starting Spin][lement ⇀ Dust Element ↼ Plasma Cann]
[Congratulations, you have got the Dust Element!]
Bale just dismissed the message. He had long been annoyed at the daily reminders that he was in fact, a main character. That somewhere out there, there is a world-level calamity just waiting to happen and that he is the only person overpowered enough to stop it.
Bale already acknowledged that he was overpowered. He had a collection of Elements that even the City's Library had no knowledge of. Their destructiveness varied but Bale knew that no other being had as many Elemental Affinities than he did. Although his power was weak now, his potential was the strongest in the entire world.
