Felix's pov
Dream staff came to life in my hands as the spirits began to advance, I waved my soul weapon once and crafted a no-elemental barrier and with another I casted a spell on myself, the barrier instantly began to shake under the assault of the spirits but I felt into my robes where I had more than enough potions to supplement myself so I remained calm
'what do we do'
I said
Lucas looked at me with conflicting eyes, I half thought he was going to change his mind when he spoke
"Felix you have magnus eyes don't you"
said Lucas, I was visibly shocked
"no need to wonder how I know, now listen I've fought spirits before, in their bodies there's a moving point called the dimensional collar that tethers them to this realm, if we hit that the spirits will instantly be sent back to the spirit realm, use your magnus eyes to find it"
as he said, this wasn't the time to ask how he knew of one of my most hidden abilities, magnus eyes are what they sound like eyes they increases a magic user's ability to see and detect mana, with it I can easily tell where mana is most gathered in a person body or on an object, I can even use it to scan for weaknesses in spells, that's why I'm so good at anti magic.
I instantly channeled mana into my eyes and felt a dull pain in them, this was the side effect of this ability one would feel pain that steadily grew as long as it was active, I had to be quick with this, In extreme cases one could even end up blind from over use of this ability but right now it's use was nessecary.
'then leave it to me'
"great, I know we don't really trust each other but let me lead this confrontation, Felix link us telepathically, I have a plan"
Jesse and Desmond looked at each other before saying
"do it"
Lucas's plan flowed into our minds its details sounding more and more ridiculous as he went on we all shared a glance before nodding.
Lucas pulled his sword before counting down
"3. 2. 1"
at the end of the count I opened up gap in the barrier, directly in front of us stood the earth and wind spirits at our backs fire and water, Lucas and Desmond rushed at the figures, the spirits were over 15 feet tall as such their speed was nothing to write home about, Lucas easily cut through the left leg of the wind spirit swirling his ki in a way that disrupted its regeneration for a time while Desmond swung his axes in opposing directions at the right leg of the earth spirit unfortunately his attack wasn't as effective as Lucas's, the earth spirit began to regenerate in real time, it swung its fist at Desmond who crossed his axes and blocked with ki, he successfully defended abeilt with visible difficulty, the spirit noticing that tried to attack with its other hand but found that it had been sliced apart by Lucas, Lucas was preparing another ki enhanced attack when he was suddenly blasted with a huge stream of wind and was forced to block but still ended up being sent flying, Desmond had managed to shrug off the earth spirits fist and responded with a spinning sideways cleave with both his weapons, the force from that action along with the heavily compressed Ki split the earth spirit in four and did some damage to the wind spirit as well loosening the effect of its attack on Lucas who responded by blitzing to its front and sending a cut that split the spirit from shoulder to belly, he pulled out his sword and stood back to back with Desmond, a few bruises and scratches in between both of them and watched as their opponents repaired the damages done to them instantly
"this will only get harder won't it"
said Desmond
"yep"
replied Lucas.
While Lucas and Desmond took care of our front, I did something drastic, I dropped our barrier, the spirits didn't wait to wonder why I did it, the fire spirit created a sword out of flames while the water one made a whip, they both swung at us with full force, a mix of dust and debree accompanied the mist that came naturally as a result of fire and water clashing, but our dead bodies weren't there, before they could express their confusion black chains had sprouted from a magic circle right under their weapons, MALICE CHAIN, a little present I left for them knowing they'd rush into it, it wrapped around them sealing their movement, we appeared a little while away, I standing with my staff in hand while Jesse crouching while holding her magic bow,
"thank goodness it worked"
said Jesse
'of course it did, proximity warp is a spell I came up with myself'
a spell I made to instantly warp me to safety if an attack ever came close, I activated it at the start of the fight
'but now it's time for dream staff to shine, eat up Rosa'
I said and it happened just like that, the jewel at the top of my staff opened up to reveal a pale blue crystal flower which instantly began to absorb all the mana in our surroundings except for those of my allies, all four spirits found themselves becoming increasingly more drained, the earth and wind spirits turned to see that I was the cause of their condition after all spirits are beings that are actually made of mana, this was the equivalent of draining them of their blood, they both tried to rush me but Desmond and Lucas wouldn't have that instantly blocking their way, the fire and water tensed up expecting me to cast a very powerful spell but I didn't
"if this doesn't work you will pay for this cross bow"
'that's why it has too, I don't have that kind of money'
I say to Jesse as I transfer the mana to her bow, elemental mana is fickle in nature, fire doesn't like water, wind and it rarely get along with earth and the same goes for all the other elements, in short they don't like each other, there's a natural repulsive force found when these elements interact and if handled by a magic caster beneath the 7th teir the resulting explosion could be devastating, magic casters usually only use it in highly dangerous situations even then the kick back of such an attack is quite frightening but what if that attack was being handelled by 10th teir magic caster and was being used alongside a Don class weapon.
I infused the mana into Jesse's bow and properly ratioed it so as not to destroy the weapon before it was used, white light started to gather around us as the attack we had been charging with the mana of high grade spirits reared its head, the wind and earth spirits had finally gotten free of Desmond and Lucas's assault, or so they thought, since they lacked eyes at the back of their heads they couldn't se the smiles both of them were struggling to hide as they rushed, unfortunately, right into the weapons trajectory, in a risky gambit I released both the fire and water and they too joined the sprint probably thinking I was simply tired but in truth I just wanted them to closer to the attack so they'd take more damage, all four spirits appeared in our front as I reinforced my ears with mana
"BOOM SFX"
like the effects of a god throwing a tantrum an almighty boom resounded in our ears from the attack, our sights were dyed white as the attack rushed the spirits, an unbelievable amount of heat filled the air as everything in front of us was incinerated, the attack continued for several seconds before stopping, letting us once again see the spirits
"wow I'm impressed"
said an annoyingly calm voice
"too think you'd force me to properly summon them"
in front of us stood the spirits but this time their forms were considerably different, their forms were much smaller, about a foot taller than us actually and rather than masses of fire water earth and air they were fully formed, previously they had only been half summoned letting their essence's into our world but now they were actually here with their true appearances and full powers ready to be displayed, they would no longer fight with robotic movements and act based solely on instinct like they had before, an act that gave us the upper hand in skill
"so brave warrior's'
the Don said placing stress on the last part probably in an effort to infuriate us
"what do you intend to do now"
he probably expected us to be consumed by despair and reeling with fright but instead we smiled, we all smiled even though we tried not to
"this is what we were waiting for"
said Lucas, there was a bit of ki on his blade but it shaply increased as he spoke reaching a level that made the air tremble
"it was annoying having to hold back"
said Desmond with the same vigour in his voice
'I can finally stop using this'
I said deactivating magnus eyes, and at that Don Leon couldn't hide his shock
"what are you doing I thought your plan was to use your magnus eyes to find their dimensional collars and beat them"
I turned to face his shocked expression
'Don Leon you and I both know that in a half summoned spirit the dimensional collar is as small as a water Mellon seed and moves around a spirits body so quickly even blade masters have difficulty tracking it'
his mouth fell open as if he wasn't expecting us to know this fact
"but in a fully summoned spirit not only is the collar much bigger it doesn't move at all"
said Jesse
"Hell I'd bet you that for spirits this strong it about the size of a fist and located right in the middle of their chests"
the spirits themselves flinched at that the fire one even took a step back, they had probably realised that the weren't simply crushing some weak humans but people who what they were doing, the Don himself looked even more shocked before he regained his composure quickly saying
"all that is true but do you really think you could beat them as they are now, not only are their bodies considerably tougher but their skills are the real deal, these are all tried and tested warrior's completely different from the spirits most people summon"
before I could say anything Lucas spoke up
"sir didn't you hear"
he said as he swung his blade towards the side, the ki coming off of it spread out obliterating a large part of the forest
"back then we were holding back"
the mana I had hidden away began to surge up as I let it loose, the others began to do the same showing we were actually far stronger than we let off
"your spirits are strong but that last attack did a number on them, they won't be fighting at full strength any time soon so we'll manage and if you try to turn them back to half spirits you'll suffer the backlash of an improper summoning making their presence worthless"
said Desmond
"and if we add the damage we'll do to them when in half spirit form being sent to your mana channels, you might end up in the hospital"
Added Jesse
our plan wasn't foolproof by any means, there was still the glaring question of what to do if he abandoned his pride and joined in on the fight but in truth we weren't trying to win, we knew we had no hope of that, we were simply hoping Kalen would win his fight and come back to support us, we all tensed up anticipating what the Don's next move was his expression changed to one of false calm as he said
"you got me"
while waving his finger at each of us
"you really got me, have it your way then since you're so intent on dieing with false hope in your eyes I'll help you"
he waved his hand and the spirits came on the offensive once again
"it's time for round two guys no slouching"
said Lucas
"right"
we all replied steeling ourselves for more.
