Chapter 9 - INAGURATION PT1

KALEN

"the last of the guests have arrived my Don"

I simply nodded at those words, right now I was being attended to by a couple of the battle maids as they helped me into a lavish set of battle clothes that looked like they would impress more than protect but that was the way it ought to be, this was what i signed up for when I agreed to be a Don, a life time of extra.

Although they placed a bigger emphasis on style than any other clothes I had worn in a long time I had to say even with all the decorations and add on they were still bare minimum B-rank equipment and that was impressive considering how much emphasis was put on how they should look.

I'll have to thank Shainne when next I see her, an excellent battle clothes tailor and the lover of my best friend, Felix was extremely apprehensive about asking me whether she could sew the clothes I would wear on my inauguration because he thought there was a chance in would say no, i replied to him candidly

"Shainne is one of the best in the city and she's been making clothes for me for years why would I have her stop now besides I was already coming to ask her"

Felix was ecstatic, he wanted to rush over to her store this instant in order to tell her and I decided to follow him, I wanted to see how happy she would be from the news, Shainne had been having problems in her desired profession, she had started out as the apprentice of one of the most popular battle clothes tailors in the city who noticed how talented she was but had to leave when her boss made an aggressive pass at her the man being fairly influential managed to dodge punishment but when Shainne started out her own shop she began to gain more and more customers, you see battle clothes aren't like armour, they're lighter stylish and in most cases sturdier, they are made by sewing special material then imparting them with specialised and highly complicated runes but due to the production process being so tedious there isn't much variation especially when it comes to those of female adventurers, often times they'd have to walk into a store and spend hours looking for one that fits them and if not they'd have to pay an extra fee in order to adjust its size which also has a high chance of reducing the worth of the clothe, but what Shainne did although simple was also revolutionary, she simply made clothes in different sizes and forms that way a man and a woman could enter her store and find clothes that fit the two of them no problem, for a time her business boomed until her former boss decided to solidify his position as bane of her life and spread rumours of how her clothes were not as high quality as she claimed leading to her basically giving clothes away in order to make a sale, it was in that rut that Felix found her, he tried everything he could to help correct those lies and even tried to threaten her old boss to get him to take those lies back but Lorain and I held him back until eventually we settled on one thing, back then we were both C-class and so we decided to reach S-class while only wearing Shainne's clothing and although it seemed like we were the ones doing all the work Shainne never disappointed, every day producing even better and better clothes that made our jobs easier there were definitely rough patches here and there with Shainne's former boss taking this as seriously as the rest of us but we managed to pull through and bow here we are.

"we done sir"

the maids attending to me said

"yes thank you"

and with that I walked out the door after only catching the smallest glances at my appearance but with that glance I got satisfaction, I was dressed in black as I always was, dark trousers and a shirt both with gold trimming, the buttons were made of amethyst that was enchanted to shimmer more than usual, I wore a Cape the top of which was sown with 'shadow dyke' feathers a rare dangerous and highly sought after mana beast due to its feathers containing a mesmerising feature the rest of the Cape was 'recelon bull' strong and hard but just as light and the cape was held together by black gold, with my hair the way it was from the lavish treatment I had undergone for it just yesterday I like some kind of dark prince who was ready to swoop out of the night in a horse out of shadows and carry maidens into the night but despite the odd narrative I was cool with it.

I had been walking at a moderate pace for a while when I stopped before I resumed this time walking faster until I saw them mr and mrs King, Lorains parents.

A couple well into their 40's and although they had spent years doing nothing but office work the air of seasoned fighters still shown splendidly over then but it was shadowed by a different aura, loss, it was to be expected both of them had gone through great lengths to have Lorain and they could only have her no matter how hard they tried the loss of their only daughter, their pride and joy, their reason for living must have been extremely jarring but the moment they laid eyes on me that aura disappeared like a lie as they turned to face me with huge smiles on their faces,

"greetings 3rd Don"

they said in unison, while I simply stared blankly wondering if I was in front of the wrong people.
